What Are The Best Kids Drink Bottles?

One after the other breaks and I’m after not the most expensive but the most sturdy. Suggestions?

    Camelbak usually last a while

Not sure what age your asking about…, but use Contigo from Costco for my toddler best ones I've had so far

    • 3 for $15, and they seem more leakproof than my camelbak

if you are not after the vacuum kind..
then cheap ones from cole/worths with out the straw is best…
easy to clean(the more mechanism the more hard it is to clean),
cheap to replace (cause kids lose and break them),
doesn't give you a fright when they drop them (metal ones are hella scary when dropped on tiles)

depending on the age of your kids, most parents would have at least a dozen different bottles for different scenarios

    Camelbak. In short:

    • The bottle is sturdy and never broke or even cracked (we have 3 of them).
    • The rubber bite valve… that's a different story. It's ok for older children but if your child is still in the oral stage, let's say 1-2 y/o, then they'll chew through it and it becomes a hazard. Other than that it's great. Just note there are two designs, one with a thin straw and one with a thicker straw, so choose the right one when buying replacements.
    • Cleaning it is a breeze, but requires a thin brush to get in the nooks and crannies.

The straws for all our kids bottles get chewed to death.

      • Likewise.

The 5yo isn't so bad these days, but yeah - keep an eye on those bite valves, because you're leak-proof bottle ain't so leak-proof once they've got holes bitten through them.

Yep it's a pain. If the valves aren't replaceable then it's a whole new bottle every time. Very annoying.

@dust: Yeah. We discovered they'd changed the valves+straws on our (small) collection of Eddy Kids bottles. Thankfully they do still fit - it's very tight, but they fit.

  • Have found as the kids get older, best is one with either no rubber mechanism to bite, nor an internal straw. Generally the internal straw will split over time, and the number of bitten straws or rubber things on top is amazing.

Longest lasting so far is these Thermos ones - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/647012

  • IME most bottles seem to last forever (except some with flaking paint jobs which are a PITA) but the lids / caps / tops crack or otherwise break.

If there was a bottle with tops available separately I'd go for that one. Sick of throwing good bottles away for a damaged top.

Whichever one you get, they will still lose it, so the cheapest

    • I've been through so many lost ones with my kids so +1 on the cheapest (leak proof) one.

      • I used to coach kids sport and part of cleaning up after just about each training session was picking up the drink bottles that had been left behind. many were never reclaimed, including expensive Nike / Adidas etc ones

  • We've used the 500ml double-insulated Thermos bottles for years with our kids. They do take a beating and can survive quite a few drops. As it ages, and if you dishwasher the lid/top, there is a risk of the plastic lid part having a chunk taken our were you to drop it on a super-hard surface like Bitumen. However, even then the bottle may still may function provided the small seal piece is still intact and that the lid/top can be locked down.

  • These are $1 on sale at kmart https://www.kmart.com.au/product/620ml-check-twist-top-drink… https://www.kmart.com.au/product/620ml-leopard-twist-top-dri…
There still seems to be stock around. Not sure on durability, but definitely cheap.

    • The problem with this sort of thing is that the pop up bits get bitten, and then they don't go down properly, then they leak everywhere.

I have given up on any pop up, weird latch, little straw etc drink bottles, as they are all rubbish and break. Bought a stainless steel twin skin thing from Coles with a big twist on plastic lid, nothing to go wrong, basically nothing to break.

This is it, also half price at the moment.

  • My missus has spent hundreds of dollars on Water bottles on the kids.

Most of them expensive and complicated.

My advice to others is to buy simple / cheap (BPA free) ones. The Decor or sistema ones at Coles / Woolies are often half price and do a fine job.

The more complicated they are the hard they are to clean, I have had to many to name, but ones with straws / valves, flanges, all require extra work to clean.

Some you can't even see mould build up until you really take it apart.

The ones with intricate values and bits where it is hard to brush should be avoided.

    • Non bpa-free water bottles aren't available for sale, so it's kind of a redundant statement
