  • I would of got this but don't think its submersible only water resistant.

IP67 metal gear box and motor casing = 6 Dust-tight + 7 water immersion up to 1 meter in depth for 30 minutes

      • Interesting, you may of changed my stance on getting this.

  • Synthetic rope
    Fairlead: 4 way roller

I hope it’s a roller with tight tolerances to stop the rope getting pinched.

I ordered one. I've been meaning to get a winch on the ute for a while. They're only offering a 1 year warranty despite offering 3 year when they first had essentially the same winch for sale in 2014 or thereabouts. I think those extra 2 years are a minimum (and a given) from a consumer law perspective if you've got the time and inclination if it needs to be battled out

    • Aldi staff are pretty lax on returns as well which helps.

  • Wish I had some way to mount a winch to the front of my car..

    "I would HAVE got this"
"You may HAVE changed my stance" etc.

For what it’s worth it looks pretty good on paper. Not a fan of the roller fairlead for synthetic rope but for a cheap winch it’s ok.

As with all winches I’d recommend opening the gearbox up and potentially adding additional grease and checking the seal (possibly even adding some sealant to the flanges to keep water out).

Get in a habit of pulling the rope out and winching back in at least every 3 months. If you don’t use them for a while the braking mechanism can rust into place and the gears can start to rust if not lubricated by moving them around.

A bit of maintenance should mean they last for ages.

That said, if I was heading out bush by myself I wouldn’t trust a cheap winch, but if you always head out with a group and money is tight give it a go.

    • Cheers for the insight. I don't go off-road often enough to justify an expensive winch but would have saved myself hours in some situations I got myself in.

Can always sell and upgrade if it becomes a regular use thing.
