UPS Recommendation for DAHUA CCTV network DVR and Belong NBN Modem

Can someone please recommend a UPS which can send email notifications on power outages/fluctuation? UPS should be able to keep the Belong NBN modem and DAHUA CCTV network DVR powered on for a bit. A user-replaceable battery option on the UPS will be helpful.

Thank you for the recommendations in advance.

    1. Work out the load all your gear is running.
    2. Decided if you need additional (headroom) and if so, how much. Be that for any additional gear you may want, or run from time to time.
    3. Then ass buffer to the values.
    4. Decide how much uptime you need.
    5. Find a UPS suitable (I prefer Eaton).

    Then buy! :)

  • What kind of NBN do you have? I have HFC and even if my UPS keeps the modem powered up during a power outage, my NBN stays down.

    • Is that cos your ISP goes down as well as a result of the power outage? eg city-wide outage and ISP is in the same city.

      • I don't know the answer. Perhaps whatever is powering the local coaxial cable part of the NFC network also loses power when local power goes out?

  • NBN is the FTTN and I would like the modem to be powered on in the event of the power outage/fluctuation when I am in the middle of working on my laptop so I can save and finish off my online work. Modem takes about 3-4 mins to restart and back online.

    With the email notification from the UPS it will be helpful to know when it happens when I am not home.

    Thanks

    • From the NBN web site:

      nbn™Fibre to the Node (FTTN)

      Landline phone and internet services won’t work in the event of a power outage within the nbn™ Fibre to the Node network or within your premises. Unfortunately, restoring power with an alternative power option is not possible if the nbn™ FTTN network is also experiencing a power loss. Consider keeping a charged mobile phone nearby in the instance of a power outage.

      • The reality is that FTTN nodes have backup batteries, and generally run for some time before everyone's internet stops. NBN aren't going to promise that - particularly with people potentially relying on their internet for emergency communications - but it does exist.

        Personally I've been accessing the internet through my FTTN connection for over 45 minutes after the power went out {at which stage I shut my end down, so not sure how much longer the node would have run}
