Looking for A New 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD

Hi all. I'm looking to get a bigger SSD in the near future but I'm not sure what to get with WD and Crucial silently switching their controllers and NAND. I don't want anything fancy as it's just for a PC, so even Gen3 is fine, but I'm looking for a ~$200 2TB boot drive that's gonna last until the storage size is obsolete.

Oh I should've specified. I'm looking for an M.2 NVMe drive.

      • Best I can find is the Kingston NV1 M.2 NVMe SSD 2TB $259 + Delivery @ Shopping Express.

that's not the "best" in terms of performance, it's probably among 1 of the worst performer with its QLC. but definitely good price if you want a cheap m.2 game drive.

          • @OMGJL: I was going by the closest price to $200. Not the best read/write performance.

@Twix: yeh I can see where you coming from(and really helpful to actually find one that cheap), but I just wanted to make sure OP(and other buyers) understand too.

$200? There's nothing around that price. Cheapest around is about $270 for the absolute cheapest drive, unless you're willing to drop back to SATA (which isn't worth it).

I'd recommend this, best bang for buck drive around at the moment - https://www.bpctech.com.au/cssd-f2000gbmp400-corsair-force-m… for $340.

Although personally I'd be tempted by the Aorus for $400 here - https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/gigabyte-aorus-m-2-2280-nvme-2tb… - it's probably no real world difference despite being faster, TLC NAND and Gen4, but it's only $60 extra and looks great.

  • From what I've read, a fair few brands (Samsung, WD, Adata, Crucial, Kingston, Team Group to name but a few), are switching components due to shortage/lowering the price. Not a great look, but they should be forced to badge the drives as a different model to stop confusion.

I'm currently looking for a 2TB m.2 drive for gaming and storage. I want bang for buck, performance, reliability, tlc with a decent dram cache, low power usage, low heat.
For gaming, I've read that you'll see almost zero loading time or frame rate gain between sata ssd all the way up to the top end gen4 m.2 nvme drives.

Here's my 2cents on these drives in the thread:
    - Kingston NV1 M.2 NVMe SSD 2TB: Pro: good brand, ok performance at that price. Con: qlc (on 2tb model), no dram cache, average endurance, gets hot.
    - Corsair Force MP400 NVMe 2TB: Pro: reasonably fast. Con: qlc, small cache, lower endurance.
    - Gigabyte AORUS M.2 2280 NVMe 2TB Gen4 Pro: great performance, tlc, dram cache, good endurance. Con: Large heatsink (won't fit some laptops), gets hot.
    - Silicon Power UD70 2TB PCIe Gen3x4 M.2: Pro: low cost for ok performance Con: qlc, low cache, low endurance.
    - PNY CS2130 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe: Pro: Con: gets awful reviews, qlc, runs hot, unable to confirm endurance, hard to confirm specs even from PNY.
    - Verbatim 2TB Vi3000 PCIe Gen 3.0 2tb: Pro: appears to be tlc, good endurance. Con: hard to find reviews, unable to confirm if it has dram cache.

    I'm currently considering:
    - Samsung EVO 970 plus 2TB. Seen it drop to $399, but still feels overpriced. I reckon this will go on special pretty soon.
    - Kingston KC2500 M.2 NVMe 2TB. Seen it drop to $296 with afterpay and ebayplus: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/651013 - great value at that price.
    - Seagate FireCuda 510 2TB. Still feels overpriced at $429.
    - Crucial P5 2TB PCIe M.2: Still feels overpriced at $429.

I might wait until black Friday and then pull the trigger.

    • Yeah the KC2500 is the one I was interested in too, I'm just struggling to pull the trigger.

      • lol I've hovered over the buy button for the KC2500 for 2days

        • I've also been contemplating putting 2x 1TBs in RAID 0 but I'm not sure about stability. I've been waiting for a 2TB TLC + DRAM for under $300.

          • @Void: I've heard stability should be fine, you just get added latency
