Western Digital 160GB Elements Portable HDD $69 or $75 interstate

210

"Lightweight storage solution on the go - No power adapter required"

USB powered, compact and a Western Digital product. Something about optional cable for computers who limit the power a USB port can have.

$6 postage if outside of Victoria.

Alternatively, ask Officeworks to price match and get 5% discount.

So, for about $10 more than the Verbatim deal, you can get 40GB extra.

Note: Just went to look at site again. Got a "service unavailable" message. Refreshed a couple times and it was okay again.

  • Ah shite … just went into officeworks and picked up the 120gb one :-(

    • They should have a 7 day return policy as long as you haven't opened the box

  • Is a good deal - point to note only 12mth warranty on these. The Verbatim's have 24mth.

  • I dont know what disk internally verbatim uses, but generally WD and samsung are at the low end on harddisk market (check online prices, seagate is top priced)

    • WD aren't really low-end. Samsung certainly is, but WD are simply excellent value for money.

      • Quality wise WD is good as well. I bought a 320GB few years back for my desktop just because of their cheap price (at MSY), and my friend bought seagate for higher price, mine still works rock solid (i dont shutdown pc often) whereas he need to get a warranty replacement, so they are not true. I mean about pricing.

  • Maxtor come with 3 year warranty - hence why it may be a bit pricey. I think it is still a good deal if you want just basic disk without any bells and whistles like backup/encryption..

  • Element is designed for "no frill" storage, for much better prodcut you should grab the WD passport with 3 yr warrantee. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/6087 given you have $150 to spare. MLN also has the pink WD passport going for the same price, that's a much better choice compared to the Element.

    • I just bought the passport for me eee pc $69 - 5% at officeworks. Pity they didn't have any black left, but I don't mind red. Red is faster.

  • i know nothing about computers so can someone recommend which external hard drive i should get? this one of the verbatim 120gb one at officeworks?

  • $79 now

  • what's the difference between the two? speed of transfer? smaller?

    • Elements is WD's "no-frill" line, Passport is their mainstream, and Passport elite is their premium. in terms of passport, you get 3 yr warrantee, backup/sync software, glossy color finish and less bulky. With the better warrantee, the drive inside should be better, however they never list the exact specs on WD website.

  • thanks! the passport sounds more impressive then
