ASUS ROG Flow X13 w/ Ryzen 9 5900HS, RTX 3050 Ti, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM $2609.10 (Was $2899) + Delivery @ Computer Alliance

391
CA10

The only 2 in 1 gaming laptop out there at the moment… besides the out-dated and over-priced Surface Book 3 with dedicated graphics. Great reviews online. Especially useful for uni students or anyone on the go and not wanting to carry a tablet and laptop. It's also professional-looking enough to use in the office despite being a gaming laptop!

RRP: $2899.00. Great price considering the form factor and specs: 1080p 120hz screen, AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS, RTX 3050 Ti (albeit 4gb vram), 512gb ssd, 16gb ram, ports including USB-A x1/USB-C x2/ HDMI 2.0/3.5mm headphone jack, and pen included.

JB Hi-Fi is currently selling last year's model with Ryzen 7 and GTX 1650 at $2798. There is also a special on this laptop combined with the XGmobile - eGPU version here: https://www.computeralliance.com.au/asus-rog-flow-x13-gv301q…

wow this thing weighs 1.3kg i thought the asus rog g14 is already light at 1.45kg
price is very good. would take this over my rog g14.

    • this also has a 720p webcam, and the quality appears to be better than Dell XPS 13 or HP spectre x360 14

  • +3

So glad manufacturers have moved to 16:10 panels.

    • +2

Yeah, so much better. I think it's probably the goldilocks spot for me, I find 3:2 too tall.
Though in saying that, the bottom bezel of the rog flowx13 is a little thicc… might be to accommodate the dGPU in the base

  • 3050 ti?

  • +2

Wow this thing looks beautiful. It ticks all the boxes and even has 100w usb-c charging. If I didn't just spend thousands on my desktop, I'd definitely splurge on this for portable gaming.

    • What desktop build did you go with? Also did you find reasonable deals for desktop parts or just eat the markup? I'm interested because Id much prefer to have a mediocre laptop and nice desktop but its looking much easier to just get a beefy laptop and wait until tsmc builds the factories…to builld the silicon…to build the pc. Shit!

(Sold my 9th gen rog scar to a friend for 1k in january last year since he needed it and I needed funds for a desktop…that backfired slightly)

      • I found reasonable prices for everything except the GPU. I paid $1129 full price from PCCG and ate the markup because I had made profit on crypto lol.

        Here's the build: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/b/VRcqqs

        • Damn that's a lovely build. My gaming focus is more towards Max settings for immersion since I don't play any competitive shooters (good enough to make it a priority at any rate) so I think I'm going to have to swallow the 3080ti pill for that sweet DLSS and I guess Ray Tracing. I'd love to see how AMD implement Intel's XeSS but waiting until December or probably q1 next year for games to optimize is a lot of lost gaming time.

I might have to steal your build bar the GPU though. Thanks for sharing.

          • @xentar: Thanks! Boy you're up early - I just got home from nightshift 🤣 I definitely agree with you there, Nvidia will be the easier/smarter choice in that regard.

            Enjoy the build bro 🤙

@dsiritz: This is one of the warmest discussions I've seen on here for a while. Hope you both enjoy your gear and have a good day.

@Millikano: Lol you're right.. OzBargain needs a lot more open conversation that's for sure. I feel as though it's getting a bit elitist at times.

from here https://au.pcmag.com/laptops/85124/asus-rog-flow-x13 it seems you can get an eGPU with rtx3080 for this as well if you want more performance.

oh and its got a touch screen and you can flip the lid on its self to use it as a tablet.

damn what can't this device do.

  • Isn’t it free delivery??

  • I would so buy this if I genuinely needed it. If not for rona and I had to edit video's whilst traveling this would definitely be my pick.

    • You might want 32gb for video editing

  • +4

Would have jumped on it had it came with 32gb of ram onboard….which is actually advertised on the product page, but no AU sellers seem to stock the 32gb version and ive been looking for it for a while

16gb ram really is not enough as Im looking for this +xg mobile to replace my current zephyrus duo(for the record i dont recommend the duo at all, just get a good external monitor) for a mobile workstation/gaming/streaming machine

    Asus pls

how does this compare to this? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/647534

Are they both categorised as a 2 in 1 gaming laptop?

    • +1

2 in 1 refers to the ability to be changed into the tablet mode, for which the razer blade cant do.

Spec wise, razer blade is much better. On the contray, the flow x13 is absolutely tiny. Of course, the razer blade is still on the smaller side for a gaming laptop so if all you are looking for is a gaming machine theres cheaper and better options than the razer blade.

    • +1

2in1 more so means that you can use it as a laptop or convert it into a tablet with the keyboard portion hidden/removed

Great price, bought Ryzen7, 1650 version of it in March for $2300 from jb-hifi…..should've waited..

SSD it uses it's hard to come by, if want to upgrade.

3080 eGPU is impossible to get by itself currently, even from overseas sellers. It doesn't support thunderbolt 3, and costs the same as this laptop itself. Still waiting for the price to drop. 3070 eGPU on the other hand was on sale for $1400 a few months ago. Luckily I only game on console, least I know the upgradability is there…

But laptop is been great so far, love its versatility, came from xps13. This Ryzen9, 3050ti version should be better than mine, and assume it's capable of some light gaming, though can't vouch for it as didn't see many gaming reviews on this version.

    • here's a video comparison of all of the different models regarding gaming performance: https://youtu.be/gvqRhRoGyjE

    • I just received mine on Friday…. And I didn't pay for that price… :(

  • Dang it, bought a new XPS 13 today (9310) with 32gb and i7-1185 today for $2300 odd. If I had waited a couple hours I probably would have jumped on this instead!

    • cant you cancel the prder or return it?

      • Not sure, I can't see anything on the Dell website (it says the order has been confirmed and is about to enter production).

Might have a poke around and see what I can find out.

        • yeah have a chat with a cs or sth, you should be able to cancel it. GL!

        • Should be able to cancel it if you don't delay

  • This or the Razor 14"?

One thing that intrigues me the most is that this has a flippable touch screen with high refresh. No other laptop has that. The other features make this a really interesting product and I can't wait for others to follow suit.

  • +2

I must be missing something here? According to Jarrods Tech the 3050 ti recorded 1.58% slower than a mobile 1660 ti. What could warrant a $2600 price tag

    • Really?

    • What could warrant a $2600 price tag

Form factor. It's a 13" laptop weighing in at 1.3kg. No other laptops offer this level of performance in such a small package

    • +1

Cause you are comparing it to a gaming laptop. For it is not. It’s a beastly competitor to other 13’ ultrabooks/2in1/macbook air. For which it compares very favourably. It’s stupidly tiny and still manages to pack in a 5900s(its only 35w but still beats out most other mobile cpus except 5800/11800h or better) and a 3050ti, that while shit as far as gaming is concerned, still beats any competitors in this size/weight category.

      • +1

Ahh makes sence. Thanks for clarifying.
I predominately game on laptop, so seeing the price and the graphics card had me confused. Also cause OP called it a gaming laptop

^ This guy misses the point of this laptop

      • So what is the point of this laptop? Because with a 3050ti and can only produce TS score of 4.5k, I might as well use iGPU.

        • +5

The point of this laptop is the versatility and portability it provides. Sure you can buy a beefy gaming laptop for much less. But this only weighs 1.3kg, is 13 inches, and is a 2-in-1. PLUS you can get more performance out of it using the XG Mobile eGPU.

    • The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.

Computers in the martian rovers costs tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars and can’t even run timespy let alone windows for that matter. Doesn’t stop them from being good computers that does what they needed to perfectly and worth their money.

  • dGPU and eGPU thing aside, there's pretty much no other high refresh rate 2-1 13 inch laptops out there. The only ones are a few HP laptops that also cost the same/ more but don't come with a GPU

I've got the 1650 version and here are some observations:

    Negs
-only supports 100w charging with the OEM charger. Any other USBC PD charger charges at a max of 65w
-mine has an issue that the USBc display out seems to be faulty, however I think it's a software issue(re installing Armoury Crate always each port to work exactly once then it stops again. A few others on Reddit have the same issue, but some only work with left or right
-there's a confusing array of software that can fine tune many things, but no one piece does it all
    -16gb ram is soldered
-nvme m.2 is the 2230 form factor which is extremely hard to find. No Australian stores sell them in 1tb. You can buy from from eBay China, or shuck a Caldigit Tuff Nano
-Australia gets very limited versions. We get the poverty 16gb and 512gb
Overseas gets 32gb and 1tb, and the 3050 with 3080 egpu. In Australia, if you want the egpu, you have to get the 1650
-asus support is crap. They had mistakes on their website. They couldn't tell me which extended stay to buy despite multiple emails
-The max battery life at reasonable brightest is about 6hrs with browsing (using igpu).
-coming from a Surface Book 2, the interface isn't quite as nice. The keyboard is decent but not as snappy, my Trackpad is accurate enough but feels a little loose and has a loud click. The webcam isn't as good. Build quality is decent but not SB level. The screen is definitely not as good as the Sb2. It is dimmer and lower res.
-the fingerprint reader has about a 70% pass rate, no IR camera

    Pros
-there is no 2in1 that will get close for CPU performance, and few gaming laptops for that matter
-attaching the 3080 GPU completely transforms it to a gaming monster
-the egpu has a decent amount of ports, but no usbc
-i use the surface pens on it and it is good enough for signing documents
-it is much lighter than a Surface book
-silent mode is actually silent, and when on a desk doesn't get hot in igpu mode/browsing

In summary it is a very good laptop for creatives who want decent GPU performance, brilliant CPU performance, lightweight and has expansion capabilities. This is a revolutionary device in many ways, with a few caveats. It fit my bill perfectly. But it is not for everyone

Note JB often has 20% off sales, and there was a weekend you could get the supernova 5980hs / 1650/ egpu 3080 for under 4k.

    • only supports 100w charging with the OEM charger. Any other USBC PD charger charges at a max of 65w

      Why is this?

      • Must be some proprietary modification. It's a well known fact amongst users. No idea otherwise.

Having said that on igpu, 65w is more than enough to charge whilst in use. I haven't gamed with it on the 65w though

    • Thanks for the detailed write up. I had to stop at 16gb ram so it was interesting to find out that the overseas version gets not just ram but gpu and ssd. I wonder if we will eventually see them or if its similar to the samsung phones giving snapdragon to USA and China but selling the homegrown one in SEA.
