The only one that's LOL-ing is the Lizard Alien himself when he said "They trust me — dumb (profanity)"

    • ironically its the fact i dont trust facebook to be installed on my phone that makes me kind of tempted by one XD

  • Portal(10in) is not 60% off

  • +2

Updated the price for each device. Good discount.

messenger with privacy features as well. LOL

I'll buy one of these when Mark Zuckerberg puts one in his bedroom.

    • Considering he tapes over his webcam on his laptop. Lol.

      • Zuckerberg is a huge juicy hacking target so I can understand why he'd tape over the webcam on his laptop, which has a larger attack surface than a locked-down device like the Portal.

  • +1

Great… more devices so they can try and sell you stuff

  • +2

Just receive the Portal TV and I would say its worth it for its $129 price tag.

    • Elaborate?

      • +2

Mainly the kids staying in touch with their cousins and grandparents through Facebook messenger. I think it depends on your use case. If you are concern about privacy on top of the privacy features i.e mic mute and camera cover - you can just unplug it when not in use.

        • +7

We're living in the most ridiculous timeline when we're discussing unplugging devices we want to use, because the device makers simply can't be trusted to not abuse their users.

@jetblack: It's because we living in a time of paranoia and conspiracy theories. James Comey and mark Zuckerberg are extremely more likely to get hacked than Bruce the chippy in Townsville 😂

            • @ubcool: Ehrr… that wasn't my point at all. If anything the average joe is highly susceptible to hacking.

    • I read that you can use it as a webcam by plugging via a HDMI capture dongle. Quite a good quality camera I hear?

      • There is also a usb-c port that you can use but haven’t tried it as a webcam. Its suppose to be used with other peripherals like a usb-c to ethernet adapter.

      • The camera quality is similar to xbox kinect 2 camera with the follow me panning feature.

imo be careful ….cant trust the Zuk

    • +1

no, but who else can you trust?

      • +1

        Not Zuk

      • Don't eat that mushroom, it's poisonous!
        Which mushroom can I trust?
Not the poisonous one, even if you aren't sure of an alternative.

  • The best looking smart speakers/assistants around but….

  • not too bad, are these android based systems so I can run PS remote play?

  • Can it play mp4 movies?

  • Does it come with a T.V. set?

  • portal tv is only 720 apparently…

might look a bit pixelated on modern tvs

    • portal tv is only 720 apparently…

That's the camera on it. i.e. if you're using Zoom, the other side will see you in 720p only, although at the moment Zoom only supports 720p in a 2-participant call. If there are 3 or more participants, Zoom will only run at 360p.

It was like a few weeks ago the portal tv was $99 I thought, so while it's a good deal it's not the best.

These have not been hacked to let you use them as A webcam, and are practically mini Android devices that have been heavily stripped down. For people mentioning that they can capture the output via a dongle, that has either been closed up in newer devices or has enough lag to make it be not very useful.

The portal tv which for me seems like it would have been the best idea is only doing video in 720p as well

    • The portal tv which for me seems like it would have been the best idea is only doing video in 720p as well

With the amount of compression being done with consumer-level video conferencing software, the difference between 720p and 1080p might not be that big a deal for casual conversation.

  • The Portal+ looks like a good way to watch YouTube and other sites with the built-in browser and loud speakers. Looks like a good deal for $249 if that's what you want to do.

  • Wow super fast shipping, ordered on Monday and they sent by DH express from Hong Kong in 3 days. CRAZY!!! Nice unit for the price.

    • I ordered on Monday as well, they shipped it via DHL yesterday, but I just got an email from FB today saying that it'll be delayed.
DHL tracking says estimated delivery is Monday the 6th.

      • It has been a week and still processing

        • I received both of my orders yesterday. The Portal+ screen is nice, it'd be nice if it could run the YouTube app natively rather than the website. It does the job though.

          • @eug: Oh nice, I ordered the Portal TV but still processing, expected for tomorrow, I doubt
