    Turn 30,000 Points into Wine

    Good deal for Jesus…

I guess they want people to spend all the points accumulated during the pandemic on goods rather than on flights whenever we finally reopen.

This is not a good trade. Qantas is desperately trying to get people to use their points before travel resumes (likely next year for some International destinations). I'm at 700k and just plan to keep building until we get to use them internationally. For domestic, I just use Alaska points which I purchased over a year ago - it's a better value (if you buy under discounts).

    • Not many seat available for classic award flight anyway. Hate it when we tried hard to get the point.

I'm a gold member so they actually release more seats for higher status people (had no idea till my sister who has no status tried to book on the same flight), but I get your point.

        • How many points do Alaska charge per awards booking if you fly domestically?

@nightelves: 20k for business anywhere in Australia. So Mel to Perth is 20k, vs 41k on Qantas. So technically you get 2 tickets for the price of 1.

            • @jaygee: Wow that is fantastic value and does Alaska allow free stopover? Think the real gem when International flights does open is 70k one-way in biz class to America with a free stopover

              • @nightelves: It was hard / impossible to get availablity before (with two trips a year pleb status), but now it will super hard. Guess you need to book now, or even a few months ago and hope travel happens next year (give or take an Episolom or Delta 2 variant).

@jaygee: A 1:1 comparison of different points currencies is too simplistic. It depends on the cost of acquiring Alaska Mileage Plan miles compared to the cost of acquiring Qantas Points.

@UrMumsOnlyFan: Sure agree, but if you have 0 points of each, then Alaska is easily better value. I find Qantas points harder to come by for their value, but like I said, I use both.

    • Qantas are claiming international flights will be back before Christmas only today in a press release.
very unrealistic, maybe back to NZ.

      • That's why I said likely next year, December is super unrealistic (Fiji which is on their list is going through a big outbreak and def won't be 80% vaccinated by Dec).

  • May I ask anyone, I am not sure, how much 75K Qantas Points worth, say flight booking value?

    • +1

Really depends how you use it, eg 16000 + $36 can get you business from SYD to MEL, but 56?k can get you first class with Emirates from SYD to CHC (when flights are happening, of course)

      • Well, that does help!! Thanks

  • seems like a good deal to me given points are currently usless for flying

  • My 20SC dropped yesterday
