Update 31/8: Coral & Grey also the same price

Thanks, Amazons shipping and customer service is just superior… I know when Amazon is top dog in Australia theyll be shit again but without sounding like a shill. They're just better than other retailers.

      • +1

yea I feel like I'm scamming Amazon with the $59/year membership LOL

  • +61

These things should be $199 RRP by now.

      • +24

I think the negs are because I'm suggesting the RRP of a console released 2 years, based on a console released 4.5 years ago, which uses the same tech as the NVIDIA Shield Tablet released 7 years ago, is too high.

Compared to you saying a next gen console released less than 1 year ago, is too high.

    • +1

true, the cheapest deal was $228 in 3 month

    • +2

Why? They offer no compromise apart from no TV play on the original Switch which is $400. Same internals and performance as the original in handheld.

      • +1

This doesn't play every Switch game does it?

        • +5

You miss out on Labo and that's about it

          • @Faro: Ah ok no loss then; not sure which snowflake my question upset.

I did read that “it is unable to play games that don't make use of handheld mode by default”, unless you pair some Joy Cons to it; that’s where my confusion came from.

      • +4

Screen is smaller: 5.5 vs 6.2 in.
        Battery doesn't last as long.
        Non detachable/replaceable Joy-Cons.

IMO, the full Switch is better value when similarly discounted. I got mine for ~$350 on sale a couple of months ago.

        • +2

          Screen smaller = more portable.
          Battery Life is actually better.
Non detachable Joy-cons saves a lot of issues people have with them. Especially if kids are playing it.

          • +6

            @Pinchy: The revised Switch lasts 4.5 - 9 hours.
The Switch Lite lasts 3 - 7 hours.
The original Switch lasts 2.5 - 6.5 hours.

Screen and Joy-Cons are subjective I guess.
If your Switch Lite Joy-Cons are broken or drifting out of warranty, you might have to replace the whole unit instead of just the Joy-Cons.

            • +2

@wii247: I own both (impulse bought a switch lite for $160 at the melbourne Target closing down sale).

I use the switch lite for the commute to work on the train etc, and now my regular switch barely gets used and only for dock play (I play primarily handheld. The switch lite is considerably less noticeable in a backpack, etc and feels a fair bit lighter, I also find that games typically look better due to the smaller, sharper screen. The other huge positive is a DPAD in portable play which the regular doesn't have without aftermarket joycons.

Overall the regular switch is probably the choice if you want just one, but the lite feels like a better designed more cohesive unit for pure handheld play and I really like it. Yes I guess Joycon drift is a concern, but I haven't had any drift so far on either my multiple sets of joycons or the lite (and I have had my regular switch since mid 2017), so worth the gamble to me.

        • Does the switch lite have a better processor?

        • Screen looks like trash and feels like a cheap kid’s toy, sold mine.

      • +2

Why? They offer no compromise apart from no TV play on the original Switch which is $400. Same internals and performance as the original in handheld.

I actually think the Switch Lite is a better portable console than the original Switch. It's a better size for carrying around, and not having detachable JoyCons makes it much tougher - generally just feels more solid.

However, I agree that the $329 MSRP is too high. Should be closer to $249 RRP, $199 RRP is probably a bit of a stretch but we might get there at some point.

        • more worried about the jogcon drift on the lite.

      • No vibration

  • why is not blue colour included? :(

The cheapest Nintendo Switch Lite Console price was $219 at The Good Guys last Boxing Day Sale (26/12/2020)

Get JB to price match and pay with zip, make it 229

    • Clever mate

    • I've never used zip before. How would you get it down to $229?

    • +2

I called JB and they price matched it to $259, however when they send you the discounted purchase link, there is no option to pay via zip. Therefore no way to activate the $30 zip discount. Anybody got a workaround for this?

      • -1

Go in-store mate. Phone sale does not support BNPL

        • Is jb hifi open again?

          • @aimon: Well,my bad. I am in qld, didn't think too much while commenting. Should say if you are able to visit your local JB.

      • If you use iPhone, add zip to your apple pay. Then buy gift card via Safari, you will be able to check out using apple pay. Then use gift card to pay JB's dicounted link.

    • Or wait 4 months until the next boxing day JBHifi special, and get it for $199.

      • +4

so you are going to miss 4 months playing time to save 30?

  • Wish the Pokemon edition was included

  • Is there a good place to get Switch games cheaper?

    • -3

      Hack your switch

      • Are lites hackable?

        • Pretty sure that was limited to Gen 1 switches.

    • FB Marketplace for second hand games

    • Keep an eye out on eBay, Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace for cheap used copies

      • +1

I've picked up a grey one with two games for $180. Sold the games off for $100 so technically got it for $80

Also picked up a Zancaninasidnoandosna pokemon one for $200 with 3 games.

Sold the games off for $120 so also got that one for $80.

Both came with original boxes too.

So to back up your comment yes it is possible to find really cheap ones.

    • get Hades $25 sorted

  • -2

    Paid less at launch.

  • Alright price, not great but cheaper than usual

  • Blue nicest colour sucks it’s not included

    • Pricematch at JBHifi on a Target coloured one, then change it to blue hoping JB dont consider this to be an exclusive model.

  • Amazon have joined the party

    Turquoise

    • +2

Ahh, not to rain on your parade, but that was the first comment on the post.

      • Oh my bad

  • Don't forget to stack with 5% off gift cards if you can get your hands on one

    • I always here about this. Where does one get these 5% off gift card?

  • The Lite justifies it's existance by having a proper d-pad. If that doesn't matter to you then you don't need one.

  • anyone know where i can get a modded nintendo switch?

    • There's no permanent mods, you will have to boot into it any time you turn your switch on then off. You need an old switch so best to look at second hand ones and look at the serial number before buying it.

  • just wondering if there are nintendo gift cards for the switch? so someone can buy games online from nintendo store? if so, can they be bought from coles/woolies (easily accessible in lockdown) or more electronic stores like jbhifi?

  • My son wants to buy one of these. My other son has one. Should I sign the new one to the original account? Will they then be able to share games I have downloaded?

    • They can share games but they can't both play at the same time (if trying to play different games both owned by the same account). Just something to keep in mind. If you have physical games then no problem.

      • Thanks!

      • Are you sure about this? This seems to suggest it is possible if you own them on separate accounts?

if trying to play different games both owned by the same account

          • +1

@Quantumcat: yep i saw that, my bad. You seem to have a good grasp on things, correct if I'm wrong on this assessment.

I just bought my two kids one switch lite each.

If I buy a game on each kids account, I can share them across to the other one. Then they should be able to both use them at the same time? Primary doesn't require internet access, but the other one does?

            • +1

@Garyd123: I believe that's right. As long as the two games they want to play at the same time aren't both on the same account they should both be able to play at the same time.

  • Deal ends 2moro i am on the fence and can wait. Anyone thinks this will get cheaper during Black Friday / Cyber Monday or towards Xmas?

    • If you can wait just look for a second hand one for a good price, like $200 or less.
