We used to have a Tiger, a Panasonic, and now this one. Have used it for around 2.5yrs and going strong…

These days, it’s used more for steaming and reheating more than cooking rice though.

    • These days, it’s used more for steaming and reheating more than cooking rice though.

      Why?

      • +2

I wonder with all that steaming if they mist rice

    • How does it compare to the Tiger/Panasonic rice cookers?

    • Is the wifi any use?

      • +1

I've found it useful occasionally, when I'm pressure cooking something and stuck out, can reschedule the finish time on the fly if need be. Situational, but certainly handy at times

      • I personally have found the wifi/app very useful since it has a nice clean interface and gives notifications of status/etc. Quite often we'll wash the rice and put it in there, and then use the app schedule to ensure it's ready before dinner time. I also like playing with the different settings for rice texture although I'm not sure if I can genuinely discern any difference.

Does it have Parental controls ?

    • +1

Since when did rice cookers have parental controls??

      • +1

Must be all the porn it downloads.

I want to be able to set carb limits for the kids…

        • +1

          that might be complex

        • set carb limits for the kids…

They won't cook by themselves anyway.

  • I bought this on eBay today from a non listed seller. It was $124ish.

Is this Uncle Roger certified ?

have had one for 3 years now and it has worked flawlessly. It is on par with tiger with the quality of the cooked rice you get.
the smart features i don't really use as i find it doesn't really improve on the result of the cooked rice.

the non stick bowl looks just like new and has not deteriorated.

it is also very easy to clean.

the white plastic has not gone yellow or changed colour, basically it looks brand new. This is one of the best rice cookers you can buy at this price point hands down.

Thanks for your review. I got one for my parents 2 months ago and have not used it. I got fed up when it could not connect to wifi.

      • +1

looks like they haven't done any improvements to the wifi chip on the cooker as mine had the same issue and that was over 3 years ago. Took me like 20 reset attempts to finally connect it and it kept disappearing from the mi home app.

just use it as a non smart rice cooker and it works perfectly fine. I didn't notice any differences with the different type of cook settings you can program in with the app.

The only advantage with the app is with cooking congee and you can program it for as long as you want. so for typical cantonese congee you want to do a slow and long cook like a slow cooker, with the app you can do this. set the heat level and the time.

So in theory you can use it as a slow cooker if you want with the app.

    • the non stick bowl looks just like new and has not deteriorated.

Did they suggest not to wash your rice with the bowl?

      • yes i thought everyone knew that already. if you wash it in the bowl your destroy the coating in a matter of months.
happened to our previous tiger rice cooker.

        • if you wash it in the bowl your destroy the coating in a matter of months.

It is OK with some newer rice cooker model.

        • I didn't know that, what does that sorry of damage look like? I have scratches at the bottom of my bowl but they look more like from the paddle as they're each s couple of cm long. Does damage from rice washing look like that?

      • I've always wondered why they say this.

Is it because the dry rice grains scratch the bowl?

        • Yes but depends on the coating.

        • Surely scraping the rice out with the plastic spoon would cause more damage over the time than washing the rice.

      • I wash the rice in my cooker all the time as I can’t be bothered. I never use metallic spoon on it though.

  • I find it very poor form that they don't list in the specs how many cups of rice it is able to cook as a capacity. Using 3L and 3-4 people just shows they don't understand rice……

    • how many cups of rice

Only if they use the same size of cup 😆

It was $119.99 back in June - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/632679

  • are there any with English displays ?

  • +2

    This is the Chinese version
Strongly suggest waiting for the English version to come on special
Best rice cooker I have owned, absolute game-changer

  • I am really confused by these Xiaomi rice cookers - there seem to be so many different models and I have no idea what version I would get (and no idea how to compare and identify them).

This deal says its the Australian stock but the picture shows Chinese writing on the buttons.

    • +1

This deal says its the Australian Version

      Australian stock not version.

      • You are right … it's the Chinese version. Haha … as said … I am confused.

        • Yes they are, they have some models and cheaper not IH.

  • I personally have really enjoyed using my Xiaomi IH smart rice cooker. The only issue I have is there's no holder for the scoop so I end up leaving it on top.

You can get a 3L non smart version from ebay for $86.00 with free del.

Appears to be the same without smart features? I bought one last night. See how it goes

    • +1

Becareful with this. It's not just missing the smarts. There is massive weight difference 4.5kg vs 2kg.

The bowl looks very different as the one listed by op is cast steel alloy and is very heavy. It's over 1kg just on its own and is very solid and retains heat really well.

  • Who is a good seller of the english version?
Global, International, EU…. all seem to be mentioned in searches. Pictures are mostly displaying Chinese…

  • Also want to know where to buy English version
