In terms of value for money, there's not really any significant deals to speak of here, with the Momentum and HD 599 prices being outright scams in the current market place.

The 400S, 350BT, and 450BT are priced OK if you absolutely love their sound, but they don't stand out from the crowd, with the Takstar Pro 82 v2, the AKG K361, the AKG K371, and the AKG N700NC M2 right there.

The PXC-550 II are also decent, but they're also $250 everywhere right now, and aren't worth the 2-2.5x step up from the N700NC M2 most of the time. That being said, I'd recommend them over the rest of the $250-$750 ANC crowd when it comes to sound quality.

I bought Momentum TW2s for $249 earlier this year and I don't remember thinking that was much below what they normally sell for.

    • +6

I was suspecting these were fake discounts, thanks for the confirmation.

    • I bought the PXC-550 for 150$ before, worth it for sub 200$ price point, but above that I'm not quite sure….

      • Updated model. These might go for lower as a refurb? Not sure.

        • +1

nope, PXC-550 II, price error found via ozbargaining :)

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/579775

          • @RyNkA: Ohhh that's right, forgot that they honoured that. But yeah, $240-$250 is the normal sales price these days, before coupons and cashbacks.

    • +2

      Awesome work dude.
Love it when people put in effort for the community.

    • While you're dishing out good advice. Any thoughts on good wired ear/maybe head phones just for music sub $200 ish? :) Or anyone else. :) :)

      • +1

Closed back: AKG K371 via Amazon, can go down as low as about $165, eventually sub-$150 when AKG Australia stops holding it back.

Open back: maybe the HIFIMAN HE400SE @ $219 on Amazon?

Honestly, I'd just pony up the extra and get the Sennheiser HD 6XX from Drop for $300 right now. It's not going to win points for soundstage and imaging for an open back headphone, but it's fantastic for everything else. Everything I'm recommending but the AKG and the Sennheiser HD 560S needs an amp, though.

        • Thanks, much appreciated. Probably should have mentioned i want portability, sorry. Will check out the AKG and 560S.

          • @Fredorishi: Portability implies isolation to deal with some level of noise.

AKG K371 if you don't want ANC, and I've already covered the AKG N700NC and Sennheiser PXC-550 II for ANC options.

The K371 is the highest audio quality of the three.

    • ffs, I purchased HD 599 for 299 at minidisc a year ago, when I haven't known this site. That was my bad.

  • +2

I was hoping to see the ambeo for 50% off.. not even 1%off ….. Wishful thinking

    • Same here :)

    • Because it's the only thing they make worth buying… PC soundcard being a the 2nd.

  • +7

I was hoping the HD 660S was on sale

    • HD600 HD650 same here

    • Their consumer division moved into a commercial partnership with Sonova a few months back. Effectively, Sonova own the branding now.

It's been years since they've done anything notable outside of open back headphones.

    • +1

What a deeply weird thing to say.

      • +1

Maybe he confused them w/ Beats.

  • +2

BTW, OP: headphones sit on your head, earphones sit in your ears. IEMs are earphones.

  • +1

I don't think these are ever NOT on sale? So this is effectively normal pricing.

  • +1

Not saying they aren't worth the sale price, but these are their normal sale pricing which is probably more often then not on sale.

  • Phew. Thought they were going to have sales on the HD660S, HD560S models that I just purchased recently. They’re fantastic but the models here are just ok.

    • Thoughts on both of the models? Particularly the HD560S when it comes to comfort? I have big ass ears, and slightly larger than normal noggin.

      • Have the same issue! Let me know find some feedback. :)

        • The HD660s is not comfy at all like the HD6xx and 58x etc. You can bend it out to be more comfy but I'm not going to, and will probably return it. It does have the glorious mids of HD6xx series but I have to say the 560S images and creates soundstage like a beast and extends way deeper into the bass. The treble is definitely on the hot side and in my experience I've either had to turn my music down or EQ it down just a bit.

Overall the 560S is my pick of the two, it's also not as tight on the head and is ok comfort wise for me, I also have a big head but my ears aren't big and don't stick out. Probably my favourite Senn to date and surprisingly capable driver for extension on both ends.

Ugly looking HEADPHONES and overpriced like all NC headphones in the market.

None is worth $200+ as they lag in audio compared to wired.

  • +1

All Sennheiser headphones are way overpriced these days. Way back when you could buy Sennheiser hd600 for $300-350.

if you can find these 2nd hand for $200-250 then they are much better buys than any headphones discounted in this deal.

    • I mean they're still $450 before cashbacks and the like, so once you adjust for exchange rates and inflation, it's not so bad. You can get the 6XX from Drop for $300 with their USD$21 discount code currently active, but that's essentially a 650 (though most people prefer it to the 600 for general listening).

Alongside the 6XX, the best Sennheiser deal right now is the new HD 560S for $250, but Amazon have buried that deal in a re-shuffle. Addicted to Audio still have stock at that price if you don't have any cashbacks, gift cards or coupons to access.

      • My HD560s arrive today. Got them for $240 delivered - was worried I'd find them cheaper in this deal…..

        • Only way to get them cheaper was via cashback through Sennheiser, enjoy!

  • FYI… I bought some Sundara's some months ago and thought meh. Then I got the Topping L30 as a pre amp for my PC and hooked up the Sundara's +9dB gain and f me, they totally changed the low end. I'm using https://github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq/tree/master/results/… PEQ profile and damn they sound so good.
Never heard anything from Sennheiser worth considering.

    • +1

You initially used the Sundara without an amp? There's your problem right there: they'll sound incredibly dead.

560S, 6XX, and 800S are all great products for various use cases at their current price points, particularly the 6XX. 600 and 58X go OK.

      • No, Xduoo TA-20.
800 was my most disappointing purchase; never tried the S.

        • 800S expanded on the SDR mod for the 800, which had nasty treble spikes, but both are bright headphones that focus on detail, resolution, soundstage and imaging at the expense of tonality. Ribbon headphones are where I'll step up to the price grade myself, but you need a speaker amp to go with them.

Interesting that you found them to be boring via a decent tube amp, but I'm not super familiar with the Xduoo.

          • +1

@jasswolf: I don't get the same tubeness as I do from other tube amps. I got it more for the balanced in/out.

Up until the Sundara's + L30 + PEQ, my go to was the MDR-Z1R or AH D7000 + Qudelix-5K. I know the Z1R didn't get rave reviews, but they sounded great to me, and the Qudelix-5K surprisingly awesome balanced.
Bedside: I use the TA20 + RME ADI-2, neither of which drives the Sundara low end to the same degree as the L30 (cheapest amp I own).
Desktop: miniDSP as soundcard > L30 > custom class A amp/headphones. I like that I can flip a switch on the L30 to swap between HP and preamp and change profiles on the miniDSP. I used to use the ADI-2 but I need 3 outputs to phase align sub/speakers.

Can anyone recommend a pair of non ANC, wired over ear headphones that don’t make your ears so hot?

I replaced my dead PXC-550’s with the Sony XM4’s and would recommend them as wireless ANC’s, but after two hours they both make my ears… warm.

    • Atmospheric conditions and weather aside, your ears getting warm comes from a variety of factors, including pad material, pad perforation amount, head clamp, and points of weight distribution.

Generally a lightweight open back that doesn't clamp your head much is the 'optimal' choice, but there's no perfect solution to this problem, and in warm and humid enough weather, every design will tend to suffer save for maybe a handful of IEMs that are well-tuned for silicon tips that are designed for water/sweat proofing.

The stock XM4 tuning is horrible, but it is able to be cleaned up. ANC ability aside, hard to recommend them over the PXC-550 II or the AKG N700NC M2.

    • Hifiman Ananda's have large soft cups that don't touch my ears and I could wear them for hours.
My Sony XM2's make my ears perspire in 15mins. and hurt them in 25mins.

  • They always go on sale .

  • Are any of these close to the PXC 480's? I currently have them and they are awesome, but losing their sounds as getting very old

  • +1

Big fan of the MTW2 and HD58x Jubliee (Drop). Have pairs of both in the collection amongst other brands.

Both are great products if your ears match the signature of these cans. 🧏‍♂️🔊🎵
