I swapped to double edged safety razor about 10 years ago.. blades are like 15c each and there's probably cheaper ones too

100%, made the switch and never looked back. Better for your skin, too

      • Sooooo much better. My neck was always a mess until I switched to DE. Would never go back.

    • I don't know if its common but I bought one on eBay which came bent, it was easy enough to bend it back into shape and it works well 4 + years later, just something to keep in mind

    • Gillette Heritage DE razor would be around the ball park ($56 on Amazon)
      or
King C Gillette for half the price ($20 ish)

    • kool, what razor would you recommend ?

I am using Merkur 34C. Its made in Germany. I bought it as my first starter razor, but after 3 years of using it, I still don't feel the need to change.
With blades you have to find the right one for youesrlf as different brands have different sharpness/durability. Better to start with sample pack like this and see what works best for you: https://www.beardandblade.com.au/collections/double-edge-bla…

Try feather blades (made in Japan)

        • They're the bomb. Bit more exxy than most others, but very, very good.

Shaver shop stocks some Gillette products made in Mexico which is not the same as what we get here. I find them a bit inferior, with Gel strip coming off. where are these ones made?

    • +2

I found the blades dulled more quickly too.

Just as well I'm now boycotting these virtue signallers anyway :).

      • Yup they were not that sharp

Better order enough to get free shipping to make it worthwhile. You can get a 12 pack at Coles at the moment for $30.60. Per blade that is cheaper than Shavershop when you factor in $7.95 postage.

aren't we still boycotting Gillette? something something toxic masculinity,

    • +3

You joke, but they lost hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. And rightly so!

    • +2

Are those "boycotting" the real virtue signallers?

      • +3

Boycott Gillette to stand up against cancel culture!

      • @jackspratt

You seem confused with what that term means… here you go: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtue_signalling

It's Gillette that stupidly 'virtue signalled' it's main customer base. The customers simply voted with their wallets.
That's not virtue signalling, that consumer choice. A massive difference.

The irony is that you gave a perfect example of virtue signalling by what you typed.

        • +1

I am quite happy with my understanding of the term, and its application in this case.

And you are free to be happy with yours.

Does anyone shave their head with a double edged safety razor? Use the mach 3 almost daily for it,would be interested in an alternative tho.

  • Still using these blades after all these years with no issues…if it ain't broke etc.
