Suggestion for Wifey Laptop. Battery/Screen/Gaming 17+ Screen? (Budget $1500)

Hello Folks!

I have been looking for lots of laptops recently and could not find yet one that fits the bill.

Basically with a budget of $1000-$1500 ideally i would like a laptop for wife that have:

  • Large screen, ideally 17" (or even more) I guess 1080p as the main use would be watching Netflix/Prime/Disney+/Youtube
  • Capable in gaming. here not required to be the latest generation but still a capable dedicated video card for playing Sims4 or better games
  • Decent battery
  • 16 Gb Ram and 512/1024GB SDD
  • As sturdy as possible (or with possibility of insurance) as Kids are in the house…..

For example this one at $1600 seems a good deal

Any suggestions?
Thanks !!!
Fabio

Add +$100 if you want to get the RTX 3050 TI

Need to Install your own OS - just get a Windows Key
    online

I follow Tech Yes City on youtube and he as a promo

  • cheap laptops are usually cheap because of the display panel, that's why nearly all laptops run at 14" (the panels are dirt cheap)

once you change monitor size, the cost goes up dramatically =
    - if you want cheap, get desktop with big screen
    - if she needs portable, drop the screen size
    - if she needs a big screen laptop, pay big $$

from the sounds of things, games don't need to be high end, maybe go 2nd hand (or look at dell refurb)

  • If she will have laptop on her lap while playing games, then don't get HP or Toshiba. Those things I found blast out so much heat from the bottom. Not to mention 3kg on her lap.

Do check where fan exhaust is. She likely uses a mouse to play Sim? Don't want hot air blown to her hand too.

Unsure of running bargain, but I'd look at gifting her a 15" screen asus or dell xps.

  • +4

Just be aware that these big laptops often just end up as small desktops due to weight. Depending on your actual use cases, you may wish to reconsider.

  • buy a smaller laptop and connect to a monitor

  • Decent battery life in a 17" is rare
