Hi Tonywind, overall a pretty good build, there's a few changes I'd make
    1. I'd swap the storage to a PCIE 4.0 drive like the 980 Pro, it's almost twice as fast, for only an extra $30. The differences may not be too large, but once the drive starts to fill up and bog down like they all do it will be.
    2. You can get Windows 10 through keysellers very easily for 1/10th of the cost, I've used them often and never had any issues with them, so an easy saving of over $100
    3. Depending on what your son plays, the RTX 3060 might not be able to keep up with the Odyssey G7, so I'd either recommend upping the card, or downgrading the monitor. If you want to keep the 3060, I'd highly recommend the Dell S2721DGF, which is the hero monitor around here, which is almost as fast as the G7 for almost half the price. If not, I'd recommend upgrading the 3060 to a 6700XT which can be found in stock in quite a few places. I'd recommend this card.
    https://www.ple.com.au/Products/646076/XFX-Radeon-RX-6700-XT…
It's $1079, but is around 30% faster, so it's better value than the 3060

Awesome, thanks you, cards been doing my head in, been awhile so trying to catch up with whats good for the money at the moment.
Dell monitor looks good, i assume the speed difference not that noticeable and big saving.

    AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor $288.99

    Did I miss something?!

    • Yeh what? I just paid $400 😭

      • thats price on pcpartspicker??

    • +1

USD maybe? I paid ~$340 last week for mine.

The ram price is stupid low as well for 32gb haha

      • lol had it set to US, will fix it.

OP I paid like $5 for a windows 10 pro key from allkeyshop just this weekend. Activated fine- over the phone with an MS customer service rep. But it should also work as a clean install without phone activation.

Drop the Ram to 16gb and get a cheaper keyboard and lighter mouse.

Then take that money and up the 3060

  • +2

Could you update post with the aud prices?

    • I think 16gb ram is sufficient for gaming

    • consider saving money by getting a 500gb or even 250gb nvme card for OS install and a few games… then get a cheaper drive for data/media. I use a 1TB HDD, but you could get a sata SSD.

    • great case but again not the cheapest. Many of the mesh front cases on amazon for around $100aud are great.

    • again I personally don’t feel 240hz is a sweet spot for FPS gaming. Paying quite the premium.

I feel bad for your son you coming to get advice from ozbargain! Good luck.

    • I just did mate. I ask for advice to see what censes is. some smart people around:)

A few more things OP, feel free to ignore if there are reasons for the choices etc.

    1) No cooler for the CPU? The 5600x does come with a stock one, but if you're planning to overclock etc you'll want something better.
    2) Microphone for the headphones? I don't know enough about headphones to comment so I assume the ones you've chosen are good, but does your son already have a mic for talking etc?
    3) The 240hz monitor seems excessive especially if you're only running 3060. If you're running both screens and a 3060, you may not get enough fps to benefit from the 240hz screen, or the graphics settings would be lowered. Either way, you'll possibly lose out on something.
    4) As others have said, 16gb ram is sufficient for now, the money you save there could go towards a better graphics card as some have said.
    5) $350 keyboard? There are possibly cheaper/better value RGB mechanical keyboards out there. I'd say it could be better to save some $ here and put it towards graphics.

  • i thought the 5600x ran pretty cool with stock cooler?
he picked the headset so will change that thank you.
yes i think you are right 240hz bit to much for now and will change this.
will be changing to 16gb like mine he can up it later when needed.
He picked the keyboard, will suggest a change:)

    Thank you for the advice.

    • i thought the 5600x ran pretty cool with stock cooler?

Should be fine, yep. The cooler running and lower power use (compared to equivalent Intel CPUs) was the main reason I went AMD for the first time ever.

Some people (including) prefer something bigger/prettier, especially if it's a windowed case and there's plans for lots of RGB etc.

    Monitor:Samsung Odyssey G7 LC32G75TQSNXZA 31.5" 2560x1440 240 Hz Monitor $1403.90

You have a bunch of advice for the rest of it (main monitor and 3060 is a mismatch). A couple of things for these two. Getting both monitors to be 240hz is a little odd. It's rare to game on both. Usually a second monitor doesn't need that sort of refresh rate unless it's a dong-measuring contest. If he is and you're happy to pick up the bill, are you open to adoption? I could be looking for a new home ;) Usually it's a main monitor for the gaming and the off monitor for web/updates/video.

Another thing, having the monitors being a different resolution is a pain in the rear end for the user. If they'll be next to each other, try matching at least the physical height and vertical resolution.

    • thanks mate.

$350 for a keyboard is a bit ridiculous imo
16GB RAM is fine unless he is running VMs
$240 for a case seems a bit excessive
G7 monitor is too much for that video card and is very expensive (Xiaomi 34" 144hz is <$500)
Never in my life have I heard of anyone paying that much for Windows software

I would revise these frivolous things and spend the money where it is needed - the video card.

    • It was click for window to add it:)
      Thank you.

replace 3060 with a 3060 TI, there were couple of cheaper deals

  • +1

3060 is a little on the expensive side. It might drop a little. Shop the bargains.
    Keyboard is very expensive.
There's less reputable ways to get W10 pro for less than $10…
I'm a big fan of 34inch ultrawides(3440x1440 resolution and most go above 100Hz these days). That might be worth considering over two mismatched monitors.
Where is the case going? ATX is quite large.
Mobo comes with wifi which is good and has 8 usb ports including a type-c

  • Thanks mate, case going in his room so plenty of room.
Just adjusting build, will post updated specs tomorrow.

Don't worry about 240hz screens, even 144hz is absolutely smooth as butter.

    • thanks mate

Looking at the pricing list you might be better off getting this

    https://www.bpctech.com.au/kp-msi-dragongaming02-kraken-powe…

then just choose the options to upgrade the SSD & upgrade the RAM

    • Thank you.

  • Ok ordered it all tonight. Got it all for $4200. Thank you for everyone's input, i appreciate it.
As you can see, changed a few things, but in the end it is all he wanted.
