Good lord if I didn’t have 1 already I’d be on this deal ASAP. Beautiful lens but a little unwieldy on m43 body as well as being 150mm equiv. Focal length

    • +1

not sure what ya talking about it being unwieldy

my main lens is a 200/2.8L and I am shooting full frame Canon

my second main is 300/4L IS

and when I was shooting Olympus m43, 75 1.8 was my main lens

some silly people like myself find it easier to "see" long angle scenes, I often struggle with a 24-105 on my FF body as I tend just to shoot it at 105 90% of the time and it feels not long enough

150 equivalent is fantastic for portrait work, just make a few steps back to fit in what you want

      • Idk about you but I felt the whole idea of micro43 was to have a super compact pocketable package. I’m usually rocking a 12mm f2 or 25mm. 45mm for me is ok, maybe a bit on long side.

        • in that regard yeah. 75 1.8 is massive in m43 terms

I too enjoyed the portability of the system and yeah I understand that comment now

it wasn't about FOV it was about lens size and weight compared to the system's average loadout

still m43 has much bigger lenses, this is not the worst

          • @shabaka: If I wanted to use bigger I’d really prefer to just use my a7iii or legacy d600 nikon purely for ergonomics and I have battery grips for both.

      • Yeah 200 on a FF Canon doesnt seem so bad,
But if your shooting M43 the whole Camera body is about half the size of the canon.
So bigger lenses definitely feel a bit unwieldly

if you hold in your hand both em5 mii and Canon RP, the difference is negligible really (one of the reasons I just said fk it, boight RP and sold em5 mii with all the glass, and still had money left to pay the gardener)

but low light capabilities are light years apart.

with full frame mirrorless cameras getting smaller every year, it becomes harder to defend m43 system. 50 1.8 on Canon RP is almost pocketable and gives you results that m43 won't be able to achieve. Canon needs to give us an RF mount pancake like EF 40/2.8 and they win hands down.

    Damn all gone lol

  • Decent lens and very tempting price. But what has always turned me off this lens is its lack of usefulness. Lack of use cases. Maybe long portraits, and long landscapes. That’s about it. The argument for this lens has been its shallow depth of field due to the wide aperture and long focal length. But what some people don’t realise is that the long focal length means you have to be further away from your subject, which effectively reduces the separation between subject and background. So the background ends up being relatively busy compared to, for example, a full-frame 85mm f1.8 lens (where you can stand much closer to your subject).

    • Well yeah the only issue is the limited use case, but as a m43 lens its probably one of the best affordable and decent looking if you did portrait shots.

      • Nah the 45mm at F1.8 is much better suited to portrait followed by the 25mm

    • +1

Yeah i wouldn’t even use it for landscapes. It’s primarily headshots or maybe head and shoulders portraits.

You could prob do full body… if you don’t mind shouting your instructions at the model

  • I had this lens at one point. It is a very sharp lens and one of the best in the m4/3 kit. The issue is the length - at 150mm equivalent, you often don't have the space to use it.

  • An uncommon usage case perhaps but the lens is a blast for night street photography. It's great at isolating pockets of light as well as for candid portraits. Enjoyed it so much I picked up the EF Samyang 135mm f/2 with dumb adapter and a Viltrox 0.71x focal reducer (95mm f/1.4). The IBIS provides an absurdly stable platform even at 270mm equiv.

  • damn, i saw this for 580 last week and said i'll buy at 500…pricehipster didn't alert me! Was hoping to get one for indoor sports/wildlife when hiking.

  • ==all gone ozo

  • upgrading from a basic kit lense 14-42mm F3.5-5.6,
would this be a good prime lense to get or a 45mm one?

    • +1

I think the 45mm due to it's more versatile focal length, cheaper price and smaller size.

    • +1

Get the 45mm its much more useful starting out.
