    • Yeah, this might only be available at this store. I spoke to one of the employees and she said they have a pallet load of the stuff.

      • yea, they probably added an extra 0 at the end of the order by the looks of it.. happened a few times when i use to work at Woolworth s.

    so… i'm 41km's away…… so freaking tempted to buy a bootload

    • haha, I got 6! I wanted more but think I would be sick ;-)

  • Great price, especially because there is still a good amount of time on them…pity its a bit far for me to drive…if there are any stores closer to the city that has them at this price I am very interested :p

My little Barina does ~7.2L/100KM, and distance from East Doncaster to Colonnades is 772KM according to Google Maps. Assuming petrol price holds at $1.259/L (after 4c off voucher of course!), it would cost $140 just in petrol to drive to this Coles and back. $3.30RRP per carton down to 99c is a $2.31 saving, so I'd have to buy ~61 cartons of milk to break even on petrol costs.
Again, referring to GMaps, it takes 9h17m from East Donnie to Colonnades, so if we count labour costs (for arguments sake, $20/h) to drive there and back, a round trip would cost an additional $371.33, which is an extra ~161 cartons of milk.
Now, expiry date of most cartons is March 4th, which means I have 7 days to finish 222 cartons of milk. This means 1.32 cartons per hours if I drink 24 hours straight. If I assume that I will sleep for 8 hours per day, leaving 16 hours for milk drinking, it means I have to drink 1.98 cartons of milk per hour. Now remember, 222 cartons of milk just breaks even on petrol and labour costs, so if I want to actually profit, I'd have to buy more.
So…nope, this bargain is not for me. +ve it anyway =]

    • Colonnades is about 5km away for me, so I might drop by. I appreciated your analysis :-)

lol….nice work. I'll see if they can drop it down to 50cents just for you ;-). Mind you, have you taken the weight of the ~222 cartons in the backseat/boot? Surely they will have an impact on your fuel economy!

Don't forget the cost of hiring a roof rack and/or trailer to tow those milk cartons home. Then it gets even worse, as roof racks piled high affect aerodynamics and further increase fuel consumption.

The solution: Fly to Adelaide (doable for under $140), drink the milk at or near Colonnades, lash all the cartons together to create a raft, sail back to Melbourne.

    • Now Kaydat…this is brilliant analysis. Just wished politicians thought this way. I do feel better now better now belonging to Ozbargain….just wishing that car manufacturers started making budget cars in oz that utilised our solar availability which may make it cheaper to buy such milk. Milking cows available does not yield such quantities !

You forgot to hire a source of refrigeration.

Don't forget the 10c refund you get in SA. Drink them all here!

Post should be updated to say its $0.89 after container refund :)

Equivalent to $3.30 for 2 litres. Mind you, everything tastes better in smaller serves.

  • Can you get this stuff anywhere in WA

  • Its actually "Pura" brand, not farmers union. Although they are all owned by the same mob.

    • Thanks. Updated :-)

      • Find me 99c farmers union iced coffee and I will do special favours! :P

  • Wife picked up another 6 today. I've only had one since posting this bargain. Have some drinking to do :-)

Wife tells me there weren't many left either.
