Goodyear Welted is a method of shoe construction first developed nearly 200 years ago and remains to be widely considered as one of the best.
A strip of leather (the welt) is sewn around the bottom of the upper and the insole – this is filled with a foam like material for extra padding and comfort and also allows the entire sole to be removed without causing damage to the full grain leather upper – meaning that, if looked after, they can last a lifetime.

  Agree about being comfy - have these in a different colour. On the chunky side, but nowhere near as much as Timberlands. After a bit of waterproofing spray they are my go to in wet weather, even in preference to Timb 6".

  I also have the elastic sided, slip-on Goodyear Rivers chesea boots (second link) - very comfy, plus very long lasting - sole only just starting to show some wear at heel after pretty constant use over a couple of years.

  Be aware that the inners are synthetic, but other than that very happy with these two styles of Rivers Goodyear welt boots. I have a range of other much pricier, excellent quality Goodyear welt shoes and boots, but at this price these are phenomenal bang for buck.

  If you can trust them, same price on Rivers website (long despatch delays according to several recent posts in OzB). Also free shipping above $100 and $20 off $120 with vouchers DADJOKE or FROSTY20, and 5.6% cashback with Cashrewards.

  FYI in store the tag says these are PU leather upper and synthetic lining, same price at Rivers.

    Got mine delivered today from Rivers. Can confirm they are PU upper :-(.

    Previous ones I got in same model, but different colour are definitely leather upper, synthetic lining and sole.

    These grey ones are now down to $40, but unless you want "vegan" leather, would give them a miss.
    Mine are going back for refund, with screen shot of "full grain leather upper" in description.

    Got the tan Chelsea, elastic-sided boots and can confirm they are leather upper and keepers :-).

    These are roomy at half a size less than my usual UK sizing.

    Not sure about specific width differences, but they definitley are generous in terms of sizing.

    Just got a despatch email from Rivers order, so we'll see about whether my delivery experience reflects some of the recent OzB qualms.
