    Cats are quite capable of drinking water that we humans aren't so the filters aren't particularly necessary other than making sure the pump doesn't get clogged

  I still dont get the current trend in these fountains. Dogs and cats are exposed to a lot of bacteria and germs daily, the least of their worry is their water. Our cats drink out of our dirty pond instead of the fresh water we give them and all of our cats have died of very old age. They lick their own a$$es for starters so pretty sure some filtered will not do much.

    They're potentially useful for cats since they prefer to drink water that is moving or has moved recently. Dogs not so much.

      Gotcha, explains why mine prefer the pond. Like you said above its not the filtered part its the water movement these things give.

        Yeah my cat used to drink from the bottom of the shower after we got out. After getting a fountain she leaves our showers alone.

      I like how he starts with i am a scientist which is going to give more weight for his in-depth analysis on how much his cat pees.

      Basically its about the water movement that gets their cat to drink more, not about the filtered water being better for the cat which i personally believe is the gimmick. If it gets more water into the cat then that is a good thing and definitely why i might look into one.
