eBay Plus Subscription -- Double Charge

Just noticed that Ebay charged me twice for Ebay Plus subscription.

The charges were made to my Paypal account and were a week apart (31 July and 6 August). The charge isn't showing in my Ebay account, but its showing on Paypal.

I've been trying to get a refund from Ebay (no luck yet).

Thought I'd post this experience, in case others have also been double charged.

  • Did you sign up for a free trial twice? Something similar happened to me with Audible and it turned out I had accidentally redeemed a free book on the American store (so couldn't see the charges in my Amazon purchase history) and it started charging me. They were kind enough to cancel it and refund me given I hadn't used any of the credits. Hopefully if that's what happened to you ebay will refund you. You'll probably need to call them and speak to a real human though.

  • I cancelled mine yesterday just before it was due to renew and they offered me a $30 Ebay gift card to renew, so I did. I saved the url of the offer page in case I need it.

  • This was the second year of an Ebay Plus subscription. They had my paypal details and were meant to charge me for the renewal. For some reason I was charged twice. According to Ebay its a "technical glitch"… nothing to see here!

    I've now been on chats with the Ebay support twice (40+ min each time) trying to get the second charge refunded. Supposedly it may take 30 days to process the refund… Poor customer service from Ebay.

  • This post was just a warning - if it as a "technical glitch" - there may be other people that have been charged twice.

    Worth checking your credit card (or Paypal) if you have an Ebay Plus renewal due around this time.

    Same issue here, double charged (a week apart) on the 30th of July and 6th of August. It shows up on the invoice under eBay plus if you check. I've contacted eBay support but no resolution yet…. doesn't sound like a complicated issue to follow up on, its pretty evident its an error.

    Yep, I contacted them a couple days ago. Technical problem - no resolution for now.

    This looks bad, some people wont notice. You need to tell Ebay that its happened to a number of people and that they need to send an email advising everyone that may be affected to check.

  • eBay refunds are woeful. I've had an eBay fee refund done once. Takes 30 days to get a refund processed, then another 30 days to get it back to you as actual money.

  • Same here. Charged twice. WTF. Useless. If they can't help me, I'll process a chargeback on my CC.

  • Have been refunded, plus got an email from Ebay this afternoon apologising and offering a $50 credit via gift card. Glad they took ownership and made up for it.

    Email was titled 'Refund for incorrect eBay Plus charge'

  • I had a big stuff up with mine.

    Second year was due in July. I went to cancel it but they offered a $30 voucher to stay. Accepted that.
    The next day (16th of July) I got a weird email with an invoice for the $48.99 from ebay. I clicked through and it's legit ebay but it's through the seller portal (weird because I've sold like 4 things last year and that's it). I thought strange but I did just agree to sign up for another year so I paid it. eBay plus account still going everything good.

    Then a few weeks later on 6th of August I got an email that my ebay plus payment had failed and they cancelled my account. It turns out they tried to take it out again but I only keep exactly what I need on the card for bills so it failed. So there I am having already paid $49 and the account has been cancelled.

    When I looked back in the seller portal it has the balance on there like I owe the next $49 as well. It's a really complex layout and hard to understand.
    I get on the help chat (which itself a pain in the ass to find) and they just said they'll escalate it. Never hear anything for a couple of weeks but I'm getting frustrated because I can't get the ebay plus perks while I'm waiting.

    Just got on the chat again and they say "We're aware of the double charging problem some customers are having, your refund is processed and might take 5-7 days. We will email you once processed."

    Then I went googling and found this thread :)

    Their help is absolutely useless. Has anyone gotten refunds yet?

  • Not a double charge but ebay has been attempting to charge me membership fee for ebay plus which I cancelled ages ago. I just received an invoice late July for ebay subscription fee- contacted ebay CS straight away to dispute and they said they'd escalate accordingly. Few days later my CC still got charged!

    eBay's customer service is absolutely rubbish- this is the 4th time it's happening despite me insisting they add a note on my account that I DO NOT have an active ebay plus membership.
