Suggestion for Babies First Shoes

My one year old is just starting to walk. I live in Darwin so she hasn't been wearing any shoes yet.
Any suggestions on any particular brands that would be good for first shoes.
I want to get her something decent that will look after her feet in the long run.

A friend of mine used to rave about https://www.attipas.com.au/

These are pretty good. Bobux is good too, https://www.bobux.com.au/.

The one with soft soles !

+1 for the Bobux with soft soles. The harder sole ones aren't too different than other brands, but more expensive and stiffer. Once my son grew out of the soft bobux he moved onto light weight sneakers, Nike/Adidas.

We were given a pair of Attipas, and I didn't like how hard and jagged the sole felt inside. Also my son had fat legs so they gave him marks (whereas I had a friend who's son was skinnier and they kept slipping off).

Bobux are very durable and will last a long time.

      We ordered attipas.
By the time they arrived they were pointless as they were then wearing regular bigw shoes.

now theyre in nikes. They fit better and as they grow a bit slower they can be worth it at $50 a pair.

    in the long run.

Whatever shoes you buy now will only fit them for a very short amount of time

Get them off Aliexpress, the attipas type shoes. Paying $40 for a pair of infant shoes is ridiculous as they grow out of it so fast. I usually get them on AE for $7 ($2 when combining with a Cr/Sb $5 spend mostly)

    Yeezys

    • no lie, the first thing i thought of as well

      • Me too 😀

Ebay? You can get designer baby shoes from europe for 50-100. Nice leather like armani

    • What a waste of money. We would buy bundles of second hand baby clothes with many brand name shoes/clothes still with tags on them because their baby grew out of them so fast.

    in the long run.

The one month or so before they grow out of them?

Bobux is highly recommend for first walkers, along with the Clark’s early shoes range. Both are usually found on marketplace in near new condition due to being quickly outgrown.

We love the ciao beach shoes sold at Shoes and Sox and Myer for easy on/off and so good for early walking as they weigh nothing. We buy them every year from when my kids first started walking, on sale the6 come down to $17.50-$20 if you don’t care about the print.

I would not recommend attipas, real or otherwise, for Darwin weather as your baby is just going to be so hot and sweaty in them.

If you have to … look for Bobux.

But keep in mind that you can end up spending a fortune on these. Remember that many of these early shoes will be practically brand new after they've grown out of them.

I kept the first pair as a memory !

We went with Old Soles. Good fit, held up well to crawling, walking and Day Care punishment.

Yep we have old soles and they are great, more flexible soles than bobux so easier for little feet

We have old soles and bobux which we were given Bobux are too stiff so don’t get used. Gertrude and king are popular with lots of my mum friends - they have some sandals that might be really good for Darwin. Walnut are also pretty good. For me a flexible sole and light weight are important. I like that the old soles are all leather with a flexible rubber sole. Grew out of size 21 after a couple of months but has been in size 22 for about 6 months, due to go up a size soon. It’s also recommended that kids this age are barefoot as much as possible, shoes are just for protecting feet from cuts etc, ie they should run on the grass, sand etc barefoot.

These would be ideal in Darwin - I don’t have them myself but a bunch of my friend’s kids do. https://www.gertrudeandtheking.com.au/collections/baby-and-t…
Definitely not cheap, but shoes is one thing we spent decent money, since you don’t want them having issues with their feet and walking. I’ve looked for cheap alternatives in Kmart etc but they are all so chunky and stiff.

I’ve also been eyeing off these Nike ones for my toddler for this summer https://m.jd-sports.com.au/product/black-nike--sunray-protec…

My sister gave my daughter a pair of the purple Nike ones for Christmas. Her son wore them all the time

    Converse.

A full back is important as the ankle is quite soft until around two years of age. Best if you can have adjustable buckles on the front, preferably two, but haven't seen them for a long time.

If you can, please avoid second hand shoes for kids - especially if you don't know who has worn them. If they come from a child with foot problems they will be worn unevenly and your child will develop that habit.

Ref - trained children's fitter many years ago when Mathers was the place to go for shoes.

    • Yeah I totally agree about having the extra support for her feet. No second hand shoes. Plus no thongs. Mum always had us properly fitted at a shoe shop

      • +1

Thongs are so bad for kids' feet!

When toddlers are learning to walk, they should be in bare feet preferably or a soft soled shoe as much as possible so they can feel what they touch with their feet and develop muscle strength. Toddlers feet receive important sensory information from the soles of their feet touching the ground. Their feet are usually flat and have a ‘fat pad’ enabling them to strengthen and mould the muscles in their feet.
