  • what's the best brand of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    • +3

"Best" is difficult to say as everyone will have an opinion. And no doubt the best is not something you will find at Coles or Woolies, but at a specialist importer in smaller bottles.

However Monini (half price at Woolworths until Tuesday) is $6 for 750ml and I find it very respectable.

      • The best olive oil in Australia certainly isn't going to be anything imported. We produce plenty of world-class olive oil ourselves, which doesn't have to get stuck in a hot shipping container for a month to get to us.

      • oh yeah definitely agree with you there but more meant as in sold in Coles and Woolworths or somewhere but at similar prices

Anything that's "first cold pressed", and also preferably as fresh as possible, as oils do go off and oxidise to become trans fats

Also what matters is that Olive is supposed to used at cooking at LOW TEMPERATURES, whenever Olive oil is heated highly it is often not that healthy. Thomas DeLauer says he for this reason he recommends people using AVACARDO OIL, because it doesnt get that much oxidised at high temperatures compared to Olive oil.

BUT OFCOURSE Olive Oil is one of the healthiest Oil as long as it not heated too much
