        • Yeah your right, i also just now confirmed with google support chat that it is three hours of video events which is like equivalent to about three weeks or two weeks of events, so really not bad.

really? I thought it was just any events within the last 3 hours (ie a moving/rolling 3 hour window) as per earlier comments

          • @SBOB: No that was for the old Nest cameras.

  • This or a Eufy that doesn't require a subscription ($285)

    • The Nest doorbell cam. Slightly more expensive but you get the nest Hub as a bonus and the AI would be superior with Google.

  • Pre-ordered it with giftcard at JB-Hifi, and just noticed Good guys offering $40 store credit with their bonus buy promotion. :(

Don't worry you don't get the credit if you don't take receipt by 24th

      • I see. The release date is after 24th, so the promo does not apply to the doorbell. Thanks :D

      • Take receipt meaning pick up the items? Thanks

        Edit:

Explanation: Simply to receive = to take physical possession of the goods

  • Anyone knows how to install the hardware? Drill a hole on the brick? I hate putting holes on my house lol. Thanks

    • +1

Just use double sided tape or liquid nails

      • Liquid nails?

Not sure double sided tape will be strong enough? Wonder how hard/easy to claim the theft policy. Any other brand has similar policy? Seems to be a good insurance. Thanks.

      • Thanks but I'm trying to avoid drilling haha

Extra 10% off with code AUG1015
Pair that with Suncorp gift cards brings it down another 5%
    $286.10 delivered

    • Doesn't work. You need to have both products in the cart at once, As soon as you put the code in it makes you pay for the nest hub which was free before the "AUG1015" code

      • Oh my bad!

Bugger won't let me edit my post to remove it.

  • Am I correct that this only records if it detects activity? I have a nest outdoor camera and a nest aware subscription and do I can go back and watch any time in the past X days. The motion detection is more miss than hit.

From what I've read that won't be possible with this camera despite having a nest aware subscription?

    • Correct

    • Yep it's battery powered that's why it can't constantly record

  • If I buy the nest cam battery and my partner buys the doorbell battery, different names (obviously) but same credit card, can we get two nest hubs via redemption or will they be on to us?

    • +2

There isn't a problem, even if you put them all in the one order as Google allows you to add both products to the same cart, you get 2x free nest hubs after discount:

      Doorbell
      Cam

      • Well that's handy, thanks for the info. Officeworks isn't advertising the promo, do you know if they offer the same preorder promo as the other retailers?

        • +1

          As far as I know there are only 3 places currently offering the promo;

          • Google Store
          • JB Hi-Fi
          • The Good Guys

Google Store is my preference as you get free shipping and they ship your free Nest Hub right away even before the release day of the Nest Doorbell

    • Google send out the Nest Hub 2 within about 2 business days. Got mine already but there's about 2 weeks of backlog delay on the doorbell from Google post launch.

  • Goodguys AUG1015( 15% off) code working. comes down to $292.

    • No it doesn't. You need to add both products to cart. Once you apply that code, it removes the free nest hub discount

      • in goodguys? i didnt check till checkout. thanks for letting me know.

        • +1

Yep. The way The Good Guys pre order bonus works. You must add both products to cart to get the free Nest Hub. But the promo code doesn't work as it makes you pay for the Nest Hub which was free beforehand.

          Eg.

Google Nest Doorbell & Google Nest Hub in same cart with no promo code = $329 at checkout

Google Nest Doorbell & Google Nest Hub in same cart with "AUG1015" promo code = $395.10 at checkout

        • +1

Yeah I made the same mistake above - I rushed into the purchase not knowing I had to add the hub to cart as well :(

Called the store next day and they added the hub to my order.

  • Anyone who ordered from Google get hit with a duplicate credit card charge?

    • That's what I thought happened as well but I can't find the original transaction now. I swear it's charged me twice.

      • +1

I got a Citibank alert. Hopefully it's just a pre-authorization and auto clears. That's what Google support reckon

      • +1

Looks like my original charge has been removed and the one on 23 August remains.

  • Order shipped today by Startrack express (email shows both items) - but anyone had a refund from google for $149? I paid through Paypal and just got the notification.

Bit puzzling, I don't think there was any duplicated payment when i first placed the order

    • thats the original cost of a hub….

  • Did anyone happen to get a screenshot or a look at the T&Cs on the JB Hi-Fi site for the pre-order deal before they were removed?

    • Hmm following. I thought they would send a email following confirmation of the product…. Mine says available for pickup but nothing about the hub..

      • Same with mine. Went to pick it up and they directed me to online sales support. Two hours and counting on the phone and their email replies take four business days. Fun.

      • Hub by redemption

        • Just received my redemption code and ordered
the hub online. Need to pay for delivery though.

    • I took a screenshot of both the doorbell and the camera offers on the JB site if you need it. I got an email with a redemption code the day after it was shipped.

  • Anyone that ordered through Jb Hifi, still waiting for the redemption code?

    • Not yet. Only ordered on the night of the 24th. Think they mentioned they should have them emailed out 1 - 2 days after release.

      • I received my voucher yesterday, you either pickup the nest hub for free or pay for delivery.

        • I still haven't received my voucher. Who do you receive it from? JB or Google?

          • +1

@DN38416: I received mine from JB Hifi, they sent it before they shipped the Doorbell. You can redeem the coupon from google store online. Mine has expiration date of November 21st 2021.

            • @johnyBgood: Thanks… Looks like I'll have to contact support.

    • They told me upto 48 hours from pickup I should get an email from JB.

    • Just got the email code

    • Just my code this morning.

    • I Pre-ordered on the 23rd, but picked it up Yesterday. I haven't receiced the code yet. Guess i wil be getting the code on comming monday.

  • I bought one, something to note for anyone using a G-Suite/Google Workspace account they will just not work with the account. I've got a pretty huge google ecosystem at home with a huge amount of lights, devices, sensors etc and cannot bring this doorbell into it.

  • Knew JB would make me pay for shipping for the Nest Hub, if I wasn't using vouchers Google definitely the better choice to order from

  • I installed the doorbell yesterday and was playing with it, and noticed the camera volume is too low even if i set it to the highest in google home setting. I can hear the voice if try to focus on the speaker, but doesnt seem like i can have general conversation over it. Is this item faulty or is this normal?
So if i try talking normally like when you are having a video call, you cannot hear much. If i speak close to the mic (of the smart phone) with raised voice (more like soft yelling), i can hear it clearly. Anyone having the same issue?

    • I haven't experienced this problem. Seems pretty clear and loud to me. Maybe try resetting the camera?

FYI - Mine updating when setting up, did you get the update?

      • +1

I've just collected the bonus nest hub and tried it. The talking feature from nest hub is loud and clear.

I still have volume issue when i try to talk through my galaxy s21 using google home app.

And yes, i saw my doorbell updating during the installation process.

  • Installed this yesterday, i'm not getting any notification sound from my phone when someone rings it unlike the Ring doorbell. Does anyone have the same issue? I missed one parcel which requires signature today.

    • The notification seems to be random for me for some reason as well.

If you are receiving none of the notification, try contacting google support. This happened on the bonus google nest hub that i collected today. The troubleshooting with support resolved this issue.

The announcement on nest mini and nest home hub seems to work fine on bell bell press.

Received my google order but due to less than amazing initial user reviews I've yet to open it.

Anyone whose using it confirm what the actual 3 hours of footage storage is?

Is it 3 hours of total recording clips, or is it just clips that occured in the last 3 hours?

    There were conflicting comments previously

I've seen a Reddit post or 2 that says it's the later, so at say 10am you can't see anything before 7am.

    • +2

I've done some testing Yesterday, so had some recordings that were accessible Yesterday. I've just checked the history and all the recordings are gone.

So, I can confirm its just clips that occurred in the last three hours (without nest aware subscription).

      • Damn. That is pretty useless.
That was part of my justification for upgrading from the basic ring doorbell I have.

Looking less likely I'll be opening this.

      • Yes - I have had confirmation from google support that it is only same day 3 hours back - so 6:00am to 9:00am window :(

I had thought total events and purchased it - so most likely I wont be opening mine either once i receive it :(

      • Oh damn I thought it was 3hrs cumulative. Haven't set mine up yet

        • +1

Now to decide on returning this to get a Eufy 2k Doorbell or just pay the nest aware fee of $90 per year.

I have had a Eufy doorbell at my old house and didn't really have any issues with it - just thought the Nest would be a decent upgrade.
