Product information
Get serious about your health and fitness with the Ionic Watch from Fitbit. A great way to get personalised dynamic workouts straight from your smartwatch as well as being able to track the data that you need to analyse and improve your performance.

The SmartTrack will automatically recognise and record selected workouts including running, biking and swimming as well as automatically tracking your sleeping patterns so you can see exactly what helps you have a great night sleep as well as what doesn't. The post workout summaries will allow you to see what you have done and show you how you have improved, while the built-in GPS and GLONASS support allows you to see pace, distance, elevation climbed and a map of your route.

You can also store and play your favourite music that will help you stay motivated and push your boundries. Smartphone notifications means you never miss another call or text mid-workout and the NFC chip allows contactless payments straight from your wrist.

Versa SE Lavender is also on sale for $110 but I see now reason to get it at $110 when Ionic at $130 has so many more features

I've had the Ionic for ages, if you just want it for steps/gps tracking for a walk it's good. Don't expect any multimedia stuff, it's awful. NFC works and I have it set up as an emergency payments system if my phone is out of battery/no cash etc. Can recommend changing the watch face to epoch by Rohan Kumar if you like the circle design of Apple watches. At $130, I think it's really good value.

Same. Hasnt missed a beat. Tempted to pick it up as a back up as I prefer the style/design compared to the Sense.

If you think this watch is good value set it free upvote it!

    • I agree the multimedia is awful, but it is at least usable. the process to put media on it is terrible and controlling it when its playing on the watch is terrible, but it's possible and is a useful feature. makes it possible to go for runs with music/podcasts without having to bring a phone.

      • This - this is one of the selling points for this watch for me

  • This or the fitbit charge 4 (when it's on sale) for mostly activity tracking.

From the design, activity tracking features, long battery life and other features, each of these three is no doubt a fantastic choice.
However, the Ionic which is(normally) priced higher than the other two is a more sophisticated smartwatch. It has more features.

On the other hand, I go with the Charge 4 over the now discontinued Versa. It has an impressive longer battery life and inbuilt GPS which makes it a more comprehensive fitness tracker.

  • I love this watch - I've had mine for years now and it's only weakness is that it's tricky to get bluetooth audio working with it, but that reminds me, with Lockdown 6.0 happening in Victoria as of tonight, that's something I'm going to learn properly!!

  • DC Rainmaker gave this a good review. I'm fairly happy with mine but annoyed at how trash the Bluetooth music is. Abbysmal sound quality and keeps dropping out while running.

  • Since the latest update (earlier this week) I've noticed the duration of an exercise (e.g. walking) doesn't always match the detail in the iphone app (if that appropriately explains the issue)…i.e., if you click on the session after sync it shows one duration at the top but the individual pace rates add up to more. I will do a restart and see if that resolves it.

  • battery live okay??

    • Battery life: GPS mode 10 hours, Smartwatch mode 4 days

      • I would get more than a week of battery life on mine, but that's with HR and wrist wake-up off, and brightness at its lowest at all times.

  • This watch reminds me of the 1980s.

    • My galaxy watch 1 it is…..
Got from deal here at ozb for $99

  • Anyone recommend this look for a new watch .

    • I had this but lasted only 18months, before it totally died - unable to power on.
Same period, my partner has Charge3. She has gone through 3 replacements before the warranty expired.
We don't trust Fitbit now but switched to Garmin, much more superior IMO.

      • Thanks, I had the same problem too, the charge 3 only lasted 13 months.

      • That’s strange. I was able to get a replacement even out of warranty when my one wouldn’t turn on at all.

      • yep, mine had the same power problem. Died. In fact, I think I went through two of them.
Then Google bought out Fitbit and I said no thanks.

      • On internet read many issues about fitbit, from strap to the unit… some had to get three of four replacements…

  • I've had mine for a few years, and I love it. Agree with the Bluetooth issue. Other than that it's fantastic. However, $20 for shipping is pretty steep.

  • Keeps saying that it is not available

  • Bear in mind that this watch was release in September, 2017.

    It's VERY old.

New Fitbit/Google colab stuff is coming.

They will be 4 years better, along with the new Google/Samsung Wear OS stuff.

If you just want something cheap on your wrist to count steps and make maps for your fitness runs/cycles/etc, that's great - but if you want something that won't piss you off, maybe wait?

    • What ones would you recommend for ~$130?

      • You're right, it's a compelling price point!

I purchased my Gen 5 Fossil Garret for ~$150 from a deal posted here earlier, which is being supported still (but won't get the next OS I think). Can recommend that, though the Ionic has better battery life (if worse most other things).

Anecdotally, I tried the ionic for a couple of weeks a year ago. My phone battery life turned to absolute crap, and when I uninstalled the Fitbit app, everything went back to normal again. I imagine that's been fixed (I had an Android phone at the time) but you never know.

I imagine with the next block of Wear/Sammy watches coming real soon, you could:
        1. Wait for discounts
        2. Wait for the next gen
        3. Just wait even longer

Otherwise… (profanity) it, buy the Ionic. It's only $130 to get a taste of what's coming, and it certainly does have its uses! Just don't expect any support in the future for this 4 year old watch.

        • Thanks for your comment. Might just have to wait / be prepared to pay a bit more. I’m on iOS but cant f’d spending a bunch on 2 apple watches.

          • @ufoninja: Yeah… Look, the Apple Watch experience will be MUCH better on iOS than the Ionic one.

I'd probably either - get a cheap fitness band (Mi Band, Honor Band, etc) or just leave it maybe?
