Depends what you want to make. You really just need some vinyl, reports are that the cricuit branded vinyl is terrible to work with.
I found the cricuit brand vinyl was by far the best to actually cut with. The cheaper alternatives i found were very hit and miss as to weather it would cut correctly and i found i'd waste a lot of vinyl. Having said that getting the cricuit brand vinyl off it's backing and onto stuff was an absolute pain in the butt. I tried a few different transfer tapes, even the cricuit ones and never found one that worked perfect every time.
The joy can only cut vinyl and cards. Fairly limited, but great if that's all you plan to use it for.
You'll need vinyl and basic tool set to weed. I get my vinyl from spotlight on sale, but mainly amazon.
With vinyl and a iron you can make your own tshirts.
the first thing i'd make would be a goku and vegeta shirt!
I think I read that the company was moving to some sort of subscription model. It may have been a comment from another deal.
I am also interested in what/ how much ‘stuff’ you’d need. They canned that after a lot of online complaining
Their cutting program is free… great if you use your own designs etc. Otherwise you subscribe to use all their fonts and pics etc.
You don't need to pay the monthly subscription to use their cutters. There are also other free cut programs.
Is the $10 welcome coupon online only or instore as well?
it's not a bad gimmick, if you want to make a few labels for jars and whatnot it's perfect but if you're wanting to make something larger I'm not too convinced… wife doesn't mind it so guess at 189, it's a steal. I paid 230 from amazon around mothers day (which at the time was $35 cheaper than spotlight).
Whilst you can make labels for jars it's not exactly a label maker either.
What is it best for?
I made a bunch of acrylic keyrings with my cricuit joy when i had one. You could get 20 blanks with all the stuff you need for under $20 and make a keyring for about $1 or so. Apart from that it was good for lables, stickers for your car and a bunch of other stuff. Bear in mind though that you are very limited with how big things will turn out. I think most people get one of these and eventually find out they want the bigger version. Or for me it ended up being a money pit and i was always buying this and that for it and constantly making stuff for other people so i sold mine off. :)
@krammis76: What do you mean by acrylic keyring? As in you bought a clear/blank keyring and you cut out a design on vinyl to put inside it?
@dust: Yeah got all the blanks and just stuck the vinyl to the outside of them. Got these ones.

Putting designs on clothing or paper craft.
I'm reading this as circuit joy, something used to print electronic circuits. Sounds handy.
You could cut metallic vinyls and transfer to PCB
I have a small business, would this be good for putting a logo in gold foil onto shipping boxes?
Possibly, depending on the gold foil you get you would have to also use adhesive to stick it to the shipping box, which might be cumbersome. (Unless you get some iron on gold foil that you can iron onto a shipping box?)
Is this the thing I can use to make my own "fancy" labels? Edit: Like these: https://prettylittledesigns.com.au/collections/kitchen-organ…
Yep that's right.
From someone who has never been around one, how much 'stuff' do you need to get to start creating anything?
