  • you can win prizes including Samsung Galaxy 3

Please put an "S" in the prize :-)

    • I have no idea about Samsung handsets, was just following what they had listed on the prize winners page :)

      • Samsung Galaxy 3 — obsolete handset from 2010.

Samsung Galaxy SIII (or S3) — Upcoming handset, probably May/June 2012, top of the line, best of the lot.

        A big difference an "S" makes :-)

The prize is the obsolete SG 3 and not the SGS 3, so the competition is unattractive.

  • what plan do you have to move to, any?
    pre post….
sry see at work, comes up as social!

  • +6

So get a prepaid voda sim for whatever their cost. Port it to Optus. Redeem gift cards. Profit? What's the catch…

    • +3

interesting in hearing if this will work

    • +1

      lol

Important Note: You must be switching an active service. If you switch a prepaid sim and do not use it - SMSFun may deem that you do not qualify for the promotion.

Tho not hard to use it for one sms or one phone call.

      • Don't Optus give you like $2 for free if you text a certain number, and they take it off "next" recharge?

    • +1

That's what I did last time - easy money!!

  • +6

Last time this deal was on (September 2011) got $2 Telstra SIM and ported to Optus. Took forever and lot of hassle but eventually got my Joobz and transferred thru to $80 Bunnings vouchers. One month later took up the Telstra Free $30 credit and ported back to Telstra. That's $110 for free so far. Now can I port this back to Optus and get another $80?

    • That's hilarious. I like your story.

      • Well transfer completed after purchasing half price Optus SIM from 7-eleven. And, SMSfun have registered the change and let me know that my 1000 Joobz have been approved.

Now waiting on the next switch to Telstra promotion.

In October ported a registered but unused $2 Vodafone SIM to Optus prepaid, got 1000 Joobz, 3 months later got 300 more for staying on Optus. Got 55 Joobz from another offer, so used 1100 + 220 Joobz to get $100 + $20 of free gift cards (Woolies, Coles, JB, etc). Plus everyday you login, you get an extra Joob. Worked great.

On another account, I did the same, but only ported to a registered but unused $2 Optus SIM, got the 1000 but no 300 loyalty Joobz.

Points are transferred after their system notices your telco changed, so must be registered with non-Optus for a few days before switching, for their system to determine you have ported number.

    $10 Telstra SIM
+ $10 Optus Credit for a text pack or something
    = $80 gift card for only $20

Or get one of those $1 voda sim cards?

  • +1

they could send the boogy man after you

So if I can't dance, I'm in trouble huh? Yikes!

  • im assuming you can only do this if youre no longer on a contract?
im looking to switch to optus from 3, but still have a few months left on my contract. if i 'port' will i still be required to pay off the contract first?

    • You can always switch but you might have to pay your previous provider, so depends on your 3 contract, but I would guess yes.

  • You need to be Switched to optus by 29 feb? I think thats going to be difficult to achieve.

  • When I switched in december it took about 2-3 days after I switched to apply to joobs to my ac and another 2 weeks to recieve the giftcards. My gf has switched 2 weeks ago and still no joobs :(

Btw the offer gets extended at the end of every month for another month.

  • Wait. Am I reading this right?

I can go to Woolies to purchase a random $2 vodafone sim and put it in a unused mobile phone then port it to get Joobz???

  • +1

I have a old telstra sim im not using. How do i port it across? Do i need to buy a optus sim to port it to?

  • Did anyone last time get disqualified, because they didn't use the Optus service after switching? Seems risky but the reward of $80 makes me thirsty…

    • So use it - send an sms and you're done.

      • That means paying for around $30 credit. I have enough mobile accounts - 6 numbers until recently, most to take advantage of deals like this, not make calls. I still have a $2 Optus SIM in a phone here, receives calls but can't make any as registered but never recharged. Got 1000 Joobz in October, for that phone, got another 100 free over time & ordered a $100 gift card (1100 Joobz) for total cost of $2!!

      • Recharge $30 to send one sms? I think not.

        • I did recharge another Optus SIM with $30 for 6 months use + got bonus 6 months access. Cost me 300 Joobz for that credit. SMSfun gave me 1000 Joobz + bonus 300 for staying connected. So was still 1000 Joobz up & had Optus phone for ringing occassional Optus calls for a year. That's how it worked last time.

        • There is a $10 recharge option - totally unlimited calls, sms and internet for 5 out of 10 days. Not a bad offer really, specially compared with Telstra's through the roof rates

        • I asked at Optus shop but was told I told I could not use that $10 recharge on a $2 SIM. They probably were wrong, like most advice they gave me. Still, I would not have got the bonus 300 joobz for staying connected for 3 months that way, making it a free recharge! Also could not use the joobz to buy a $10 recharge, only $29 & $30 available.

        • I asked at Optus shop but was told I told I could not use that $10 recharge on a $2 SIM.

Sounds like cr*p to me. I did it - signed up to the $2 days deal at the store, and simply selected the $10 option online. Paid with paypal.

        • The $10 recharge on the $2 sim definitely works brucefromaustralia. :)

You can't select that recharge option through smsfun though, as they don't offer it.

        • But I've just discovered you can get around it - in the joobz store for 100 points you can buy a $10 recharge voucher

        • I said Optus said I could not use that $10 recharge on a $2 SIM. I pointed out Optus was probably were wrong, like most advice they gave me. Just an example of the poor advice given by Optus wanting you to buy more product. Never said it was not available.

Also, you may not need to recharge at all to get the Joobz - worked OK last time. But if there is the loyalty bonus of 300 joobz ($30) like last time, a $30 6 month recharge might be a better option, as I pointed out before.

As for using 100Joobz to pay for $10 recharge- you would need to buy the Joobz first, recharge, then get the 1000 for switching!! A bit complex.

  • if you port vf or crazy johns to a optus boost sim card will you qualify?

    • Yes, does porting from crazy johns to optus qualify?

  • Do I need to join SMSFun before I port my number to Optus or after?

    • Said this before - you must be on old telco for about 2 days (after joining) for their system to know who your telco is. Then change to Optus. Read the t&c.
They have handy system you can use to determine telco of a mobile number.

    • It states that you need to be a member first.

  • When using the Joobs to get a gift card, does the gift card have to be in your registered name and address, or can it be in a friend/family member's?

    • As it is posted, you fill in the recipient's name & address - so no.

      • Bunnings gift cards received last time were plain without any specific name on them so anyone can use them. They are sent to the name and address specified.

  • Having trouble completing registration - seems the site's being ozbargained. :[

  • Do you need to have an optus sim card handy when you port? Never done a port, so have no idea of the ins and outs of it all.

    • Same question. What's the point of porting your number if you don't have an Optus sim card?

      • Found out the answer to my own question - you do need an optus sim. Went to the Optus store and got them to do the port.

  • hmmm … you can use 900 of your joobz to purchase Huawei IDEOS U8150 - X3. Not bad for five or ten minutes messing around over a couple of days.

  • .

  • 7-eleven currently have Optus prepaid SIMS, both $2 (no credit) and $30 (on longlife mine included $30 MyCredit $20 MyBonus and $100 OptusMoney) for half price. That's $1 and $15 respectively.

I decided to pay $15 and get some credit to meet the SMSfun usage requirement. However, I do not know how SMSfun could check this. Last time (Sept 2011) I got $2 SIM and just made some calls to that number and my 1000 Joobz came thru okay.

    • So the total cost will be $2 (vodafone) + $10 (vodafone) + $1 (optus sim card) +$15 recharge = $28 if I want to use a new Vodafone card to port to optus?

      • No - register the $2 (vodafone) SIM online, which gives a number. No need to recharge, Check that number can receive a SMS (or ring it).

Register it on a new account at SMSfun, which means receiving a SMS code to set up account. Send your number free SMS to check it is registered with SMSfun.

Port that number to Optus after at least 2 days - check t&c.
Check SMSfun to see telco has changed from Vodafone to Optus - takes many days.
        Recharge Optus account if necessary.
        Worked for me last time.

        • Duh, I shouldn't have recharged my Vod sim card. Guess I have to use it within two days.

      • No. $2 (vodafone) + $1 (optus sim) = $3 if you want to risk the no usage. Or $2 (vodafone) + $15 (Optus sim with credit) = $16

        • True OzBargainer! That's what I did last time, except I was given a few free Vodafone SIM when I bought a mobile & great backpack for $14.50 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/50918. So $1 for 1000Joobz, built up another free 100, then got $100 gift card.

        • Or, use what they give you straight away to buy a $50 and 2X $20 to get $90 instead of $80

Afterall, who goes to Bummings and only spends $20 on a regular basis anyway? As much as I dislike them, free money to spend there is always good. :)

    • What was the number that u called on optus?

      • For activation and number transfer the number is in the Optus SIM pack. Namely 1300737252.

  • Also competition for year of free credit for those who switch.
    http://www.smsfun.com.au/free-credit-for-a-year.php?cl=hdr

    • That would be a nice bonus.

  • I went to 7 Eleven today and they said only the $2 sim pack is half price. The $29.95 sim pack is not half price. So I only saved 1 dollar.

  • How long does it take for them to detect the change to Optus once you port?

    • -1

SMSFun have detected the change, but the joobz (points) have not been credited yet. How long does it take for this to occur?

Why is this deal marked as expired? It ends on 31/03/2012.
