Does anyone know if I can do the following: Buy more than one of these starter packs and register the first one transferring my current number from Optus to Telstra prepaid. When that month has finished can I register a new starter pack sim and then transfer my previous prepaid number to the newly registered sim. $10 a month for Telstra would be cheap if it works.

    • I am wondering the same.

From my limited experience in porting Optus prepaid numbers, this would be a real PITA. Optus can take 24-72 hours to port a number through. In the meantime, you get no service

      Works fine mate.

    • +1

I doubt you can "port" Telstra no to Telstra.

    • +4

      Nope, you can't do it.

To work around starter pack limitation, I got some woolie starter packs while they were cheap, so basically I port between Telstra and Woolie network every month or so, enjoying $10 per month till Sep…

    • Once on Telstra, register the second Telstra SIM and then just transfer the credit from the second Telstra SIM to the first Telstra SIM. Transferring numbers is possible but is very difficult unless changing carrier.

      • But doing creditme2u only extends expiry by 14 days if i am correct. Pretty sure i would still have to charge with real dollars each month. Creditme2u would just give credit to buy data and talk packs etc.

Set first SIM to longlife that gives you 6 months. When credit runs low register the second SIM and transfer credit. The expiry date for registering these is usually a couple of years so you don't need to register them until you need them. And, a hint for getting 12 months expiry on first SIM. They expiry date will not lockin for a couple of days so ring up and complain and the operator will manually add 6 months which will become 12 months when the original 6 months comes thru.

The only concern I have with rifter's strategy is that you can only transfer $10 per day from pre-paid to pre-paid service via Credit Me2U and the Long Life Offer states:

          RECHARGE = EXPIRY

          $20 = 60 days
          $30 = 6 months
          $40 = 6 months
          $60 = 12 months
          $100 = 12 months

Therefore how do you manage to obtain a six month expiry period?

        • But doing creditme2u only extends expiry by 14 days if i am correct.

Not quite. It extends expiry out to 14 days. If you have 14 days or more still remaining it will not extend at all. If you have less than 14 days 'til expiry it will stretch it out to 14 days, so the most benefit is to be gained by doing it on the day before expiry.

Telstra employee here… No you cannot port/transfer a number telstra to telstra. You would need to port out to another carrier then port back in…

      • +1

There are ways. For example, if changing from a non 3G SIM to a 3G SIM you can. However, porting out and back in is probably the easiest.

can you set us ozbargainers up with some deals? something like equivalent to liveconnected? :)

    • no you cant do it
and theyll get pissed if u keep porting a number back and forth between carriers (vodafone)

    • Yes, you can. I have done this but instead of Optus I was with Vodafone.

  • Still only one gigs data right?

  • Is this offer available in WA as well? Can't seem to find it in Woolies online catalogue.

I'm only a very light mobile user and long 6 & 12 month expiry plans suit me to a tee.

Do these (this) starter pack include a new Telstra mobile number or must I port current number from Optus?

My idea is to have dual sim allowing me to switch between either Optus & Telstra as needed.

    • all starter packs include a new number with the option to keep your existing number

    Two questions here

    1. anyone knows if they have micro sim starter pack in stock ?
    2. Can i buy this starter pack and port my TPG numbers in ? ( normally there will be a new number with the pack i suppose?)

      1. I doubt they will be Micro sim starter packs because the starter packs for iPad did not include the adaptor if you didn't have an i device. Its not that hard to cut it to fit though.

      2. You can port your number as long as your the account holder and your address is the same as what is on the TPG account. Its easier to call them up to activate your SIM and port at the same time.

    • You can get a microsim for free when you're with Telstra by going in to any Telstra store.

  • Can anyone confirm that this is for phone starter kits only? I need a NG prepaid kit….

    • It is for phones but if you call them up to activate and tell them its for prepaid next g they can change the rate plan to suit. You could probably tell them you have an iPad to get the better data plan :)

coles had this too i just saw it

    • Coles have this running till the 17th iirc.

  • What is included in the $30 sim? - talk/text/data

  • Does anyone know if there is any time period in which I have to activate the SIM after purchase?
As in, buy it now and activate it in November/December.

You can use this for the iPad - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61487

Nice, I'm going to go and pick up a few today. Activate them as needed and then just "CreditMe2U" to my main numbers.

  • Some one put these through the same transaction confirm it comes out $59, rather than 109 total??

-Telstra Smart Touch T3020 Mobile Phone $79 or $49 when you buy a $30 Telstra recharge (I wonder if that would work with the starter kit??)

    • No, it would not work. A recharge is a totally different creature to a starter kit.

      • Ah that would make sense. Cheers

  • Tried three Woolies and none of them have it.

    Anyone with better luck?

    • I got one from Woolies, Racecourse Road, Flemington on Thursday at the service counter - no good to you though in Sydney.

  • They were on an end of aisle at my local with all the other starter packs.

  • NE suburbs SA I hunted around:
    TTP - out of stock.
Modbury Heights - Out of stock.
    Golden Grove - Had 10, I took 2.
    As at lunchtime Sunday 19th.

  • Bought 10 at the Town Hall Woolies today. They had heaps in stock. Tomorrow (Tue 21/02) is the last day of the deal so better be quick ;)
