    a^2 + b^2 = c^2

    • c=a2+b2

      • (a+b)^2 was hoping it drops to 1.6 in a month or so

  • This is a greedy cup deal

  • No delivery to my location unfortunately. (Central Coast, NSW).

  • +1

Doesn't look like there's much/any stock in WA. No delivery and tried malaga/midland/joondalup/Osborne Park - all no stock

  • Pretty good deal !

  • +1

    85 inches is crazy.

I just bought a 65 inch and it's plenty big I guess unless you've got like a huge main room to sit like 20mtrs away LoL or have it mounted 10feet high….

    • +28

I sit 3 metres from my 75" TV and I could do with bigger

      • +1

@imaDOOFUS if you're really sitting 3m away, 75" should be a bit above perfect, I just tried sitting 3m away from my TV and even though it FEELS like you could do with bigger, just try playing a video landscape on your phone that fills up the same amount of your vision as the TV does at 3m away and you'll find that it's plenty.

Maybe at 3.5m+ and I would consider going bigger

      • +1

@imaDOOFUS - my lounge room small maybe 3m away from TV and 65 is fine for me :)

        • +1

You should read up on viewing distances and standards. Sitting 3 metres away with a 65 is not that big at all. I currently have a 70 inch and sit 3 metres away and it's not big enough for gaming and movies for me. Normal TV does not matter. Think about how close you sit to a monitor, the monitor would fill your peripheral vision a lot more than your TV size and distance. Anyway I just bought this Sony 85 inch for my new house I'm building, it's for my theatre room which is about 3.8 metres long. 85 inch was needed minimum!

          • +2

@Justin9mm: Should have gone the projector route..
My last place we built a theatre room, blacked out the whole room and had a 110" projector. Now that looked good!

            • @Maz78: I wanted something more versatile and I wanted 120hz gaming which projectors do not really properly support yet and I didn't want a projector and a TV. Also projectors in general aren't great for gaming, they do the job but the tech is just not there yet. When projectors get better I will probably invest in one then. I also would of loved an OLED but I really needed 85 inch minimum to get an immersive experience and I can't afford that size in OLED lol.

@imaDOOFUS I sit 2.8 metres from my 85" and get a bonus winter tan

    • +2

An over the top but very nicely detailed guide on distance from the TV versus TV screen size: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/size-to-distance-r…

    • +1

ive got a 75, my lounge is 6.5m long, at first it was great, soon after i wish i had gone to this.
      picture quality is great though…

      • +4

got this 85" last month, my TV room is 5.5m long. Was thinking about 75" first, but glad i got 85". Very happy with the TV.
Only thing i paid much more than this price (:. Great bargain @ this price.

    • Depends on the size of your living room. I have 85" and could probably do with extra 12-14" to be honest

    • We have one of these at the kids play area wall mounted approx 3-4 meters feels just right (paid extra $2100 replacement for a faulty 9400c 75") and another one upstairs which is about 5-6 meters …..we believe the perfect size would be 100-120" for that distance.

My next screen would be a projector or a laser projector when my Sony television dies. It has to be 100" or more to feel the upgrade.

If it is 20 meters away …..you might as well buy a 4k 8kprojector with a 300" screen.

If you have the space….and of course the money it is never bigger.

    • I purchased the 75" inch in the new year upgrading from a old cheap $400 42". Initially I was regretting it thinking I should of saved money and got the 65" as the 75" is monstrous and was an extra $1000 for ten inches. Six months on it doesn't seem that big anymore at just over 3m viewing distance, for movies a 85" would be nice especially with letter-boxing.

This or pay the mortgage this month? I don't know which! I guess I could afford electricity more readily if I didn't have anywhere to live any more; but the stay at home orders! I am unsure where I would put the TV without a home (or be able to stay at home without one …)

    Decisions, decisions!

    • Buy TV plug it in to power point at the local park hahahahaha

    • +5

Can't you put the mortgage on hold if you are in a covid lockdown area ?

Warning: This is not financial advice !

    • +3

      Mortgage = 2% cost

You have to ask yourself if saving yourself ~70 bucks a year is worth not having this massive tv…

      Tough 1st world problems…

If it makes you feel better, I just built a PC for ~5k, definitely did not 'need' it.

      • Yeah but Commbank keeps reminding me of my "spending" categories each month and I spend way to much already on junk. Constant reminder everytime I spend online - you've spent $xxxx.xx on shopping this month which is ok; but by the end of the month its you've spent $1xxxx.xx on shopping this month and I look around wondering what I spent it on!

  • +3

Bought this and love it. Mainly used for streaming and PS5. I know soneone will probably mention a couple of features that may or may not get.delivered like VRR but it looks bloody great

  • +4

For anyone purchasing, you can install the X9000J software update on this and get ALLM and android 11. Did the update 2 weeks ago on my 75" and 55" and both have been travelling perfectly and android 11 is so much more user friendly I have found.

    • +1

      how do you do that?

    • Anyone tried it successfully on the 85?

      • +2

Works on every x9000h model. There's a heap of YouTube videos of it if you're worried

    • Wouldn't that void the warranty?

      • +1

Yup it would but it is a risk they are taking.

Sony did promise the upgrade is coming this year, if it doesn't come I am sure it is another law suit or fake marketing feature to hit them for the 9000h owners.

    • Any chance you can post a link to a site discussing this?

  • This for 9000? Which comes to same price as well

  • If size doesn't really matter (still prefer bigger but not a must) . This or the newer 75" X90J?

    • +2

The newer X90J is going to be a lot better. It will really come down to size whether you want 85 inch or settle for an all round better TV at 75. This 85 is still a very good TV but the X90J is much improved in a lot of areas.

      • Rings says they are very similar

        • The main issue with the X9000H is the processor can’t handle 120Hz well, and it causes a blurring issue.

The X90J has a new more capable processor. HDR brightness is also much better.

It also features the newer Google TV interface.

          • @guidedlight: Isn't the issue with blurring supposed to be dealt with by the VRR upgrade in the near future?

          • @guidedlight: I got approved for both 85 x9500h and 75 x90j. Too hard to read reviews out there since some reviews said xr1 processor is a gimmick and not much difference while some reviews said it's a worthy upgrade. Price is quite similar for around $3100

            • @Bargain-er: If it's just the processor yet everything else is the same? Then go for the bigger TV

              • @Jjj888: Nah, off course there some upgrades according to some reviews like pic quality in bright scene stc.

But I'm just not sure it's a worthy upgrade. Read the build quality had dropped too.

                • @Bargain-er: Your choice buddy I'm not that worried I got a budget TV and it works good looks alright 4K HDR

                  • @Jjj888: Yeah, ur correct. May be minimal upgrade i would not notice. I'm open to Samsung or other brand as well. But seems Sony got really high reputation in their AV products.

                    • @Bargain-er: Hisense are good too

                      • @Jjj888: Correct! Or TCL? :) I definitely like my sony TV but not sure about paying premium for latest tech. Thanks

                      • @Jjj888: Hmmm is it my eyes or Sony has worse PQ in well lit room ambience. Went to GG and had a look at Samsung (Q70A and Q85A) , Hisense (U8G 4K), and Sony X9000h n X90J. IMHO, Hisense and Samsung Q85A looks best. Too bad U8G use non android os (Vidaa or something) which is a deal breaker for me.

                        The 8k version: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hisense-75-inches-u80g-8k-ule…

Has Android TV os but $4.1k after cashback…

  • +1

Amazing deal, so tempted. I have a 55inch 6 year old Panasonic, still running great but would really like a bigger screen OLED. Damn!

  • OHow does it compare to x9000 or Samsung Q60a or LGup800

Not sure should I pay $800 Extra for
    This

  • I checked this even before the deal started. Had no stock for delivery and even for C&C within 500km (it said)

  • Can't be delivered and no stock within 500kms

  • +2

just confirmed a price match directly from Sony

    • +1

i did it via their price match request form - is there any other way since it is out of office hours?

      • Would be keen to know also.

      • +1

Not sure, I just did it online and received an e-mail that they will price match

        • +1

I submitted a price match request around 7:30 pm and received confirmation around an hour later.

          • @gr8mind: Looks like I lucked out. Put one in around the same time or earlier but nothing back. Took a couple of screenshots of the price but clutching at straws I think!

        • I thought I missed out as well. I put my pricematch request in around 9ish last night, got the approval at 1.30pm today. Maybe they're just busy, but don't give up hope just yet guys.

          • @6amcrisis: How does the price match work, do they give you a discount code to enter?
Did you go through cashback site such as cashrewards etc?

(Last time I tried a price match through Sony they refused it.)

            • @Spending2Much: @albanyson this is what I received,

“Thanks for requesting a price match with Sony. I am happy to advise that your request has been approved.

Please create an account and respond to this email in order for us to update your cart so you can proceed with the purchase. Account creation is necessary in order to proceed with a price match sale through our website.

You can create an account with us by clicking here.

If you experience any issues while trying to do this, please don't hesitate to call us on 1300 137 669 option 1 then option 3, quoting this reference number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx”

              I didn’t use cash rewards

              • @gr8mind: same i've received the same email and price matched just now after adding it to cart about a few hours ago.

            • @Spending2Much: @albanyson,
I added the tv to my shopping cart last night at Sony, then sent them Pricematch request linking to the discounted GoodGuys tv page.
Sony emailed me today saying they approved the request and they had updated the price in my cart to $3650.
From there you just have to pay.

Didn't use cashrewards or anything else.

              • @6amcrisis: I just got the same email after putting a request in last night and will try cashrewards.

                • @addas: I still haven't received any reply or response.
Haven't been denied or had any response at all

    • Will add to post.

    • How you can price match with promotion code price??

    • Do they give you a code to enter to get the price? Can you still get cash rewards?
Any discounted gift cards for Sony?

  • My 86" LG is good but this is better. thankfully I paid $650.75 less for my LG otherwise I would be sad….

    • Wow how did u get $650 for 86" TV?

  • +1

I’m gutted. I picked up one of these from JBHiFi in the EOFY sales for $4070 + delivery which I thought was a good deal.

I haven’t even opened yet either so if I just held out I could of saved some cash.

    • Can you not ask for price difference refund within 30 days??

      • If that is as thing I'd be even more gutted as I placed the order on 26th June (30 days ago).

        • You could ask jbhifi and they may honor. They did refund for iPhone mini after 30 days

          • @KH234: I don't like my chances. Maybe if JB HiFi was advertising for this price, but this is a Good Guys price.

            • @Monty85: Worth to create the complaint request in jbhifi website. If you got screenshot of yesterday price, you could ask them

    • +1

      Same :(

  • +1

    Don't worry about it, I paid $4k for my 75 x9000F and I don't care.
It's all about enjoying it, it's an excellent screen

    • Yeah it’s not like even this screen won’t go any lower lol.

  • Wow, TV prices drop so quickly.
    LG C1, now this.

  • I got my Sony 85" X8000H two days ago from costco epping for $2990.

Not sure was the best tv. But my wife wanted this for our first home so got it. Fingers crossed.

    • X8000 last year model

      • Hahhaa now i have to deal with it 😬

  • Should I sell my lg c9 65 and buy this? Would be cool to have this for ps5

  • +1

Bought one 6 weeks ago and only tonight I found out the wall bracket failed causing the TV fell onto the cabinet below.
Haven't used the room in a few days so not exactly sure when it happened..

Complete right off and insurance wont cover accidental damage, thanks RAC :(

Be careful, these things are heavy, up around the 50-60kg mark if I'm not mistaken.
I've had the bracket (purchased from Selby) in place for around 6 years with three TV's having their turn up there.

Feel absolutely gutted now I have to look for a replacement, hope this doesn't happen to anyone else on here!

    • +1

Was it the correct bracket for the TV though

    • Do you know exactly what bracket it was? I'm planning to hang mine on a Selby bracket too.

The 85" X9000h weigh 45kgs without its stand by the way - The heavy duty Selby's advise they can do up to 100kgs so well within the limits for this.

Out of interest - was it the bracket that failed, or the wall fixings?

      • The wall fixings failed, the bracket still appears to be in good condition.

Looks like one of the two top fixings failed which caused it to lean and smash down on the right side first before the second (on the left side) gave way. Both were pulled out of the wall including the plugs from what I can see. The right lower fixing has been pulled slightly out but the bottom left is still firmly attached.

I should have added more fixings when I felt the weight of this TV but I just did a straight swap over from the previous 75"

Even though I was incredibly unlucky my amp was saved from being crushed as was my centre speaker so it could have been a lot worse.

Please see the below post for the bracket link..

        • Very unlucky mate

        • Plugs? Was it not fixed to the wall studs?

And yeah that type of wall bracket with the weight away from the wall likely didn't help either.

          Sorry to hear though.
