Last time they were on sale for Prime Day, Amazon stuffed up and were flogging the 8L model away for $68.05 which was fixed very quickly but they did honour the price to those that ordered.

Can confirm. Got 1 for me and two as gifts

  • How are they in cooking rice?

    • We make Basmati in it, on the 'Low Pressure' mode for 40 minutes, and it comes out amazing.
I had a dedicated (Kambrook) rice cooker before, and this is way better

      • basmati is pretty hard to mess up though, no? Even if you boil basmati in a pot of water and drain it's still pretty good, unlike Jasmine where it easily comes out as a terrible mushy mess if the cooking is off..

        • I've heard that it makes other rice types really well, but haven't tried them. I can only say Basmati is way better (not mushy) vs. other techniques I've used

      • Any reason not to use the pre-configured 'rice' mode?

The rice mode worked fine when I had the duo (non-nova) model.

    • I have been using the 3L one as my main rice cooker for at least 1 year. It's been very good.

      • Does the rice stick on the pot?

This or the Tedal home chef smart posted just a little earlier. This has the stainless bowl insert not sure of the tefal one. Anyone who has either could please advise.

I got advice here to go for stainless one, very happy.
good price would buy immediately if I hadn't already got one.

I've had an 8L Instant Pot for over a year now, it's my first (and only) pressure cooker so can't give a comparison but we love it and it's been given a good workout this winter.

As above, I'd recommend stainless rather than coated. Stainless is easy to clean and will outlast the electrics in the pressure cooker.

Serious Eats did a comparison and this and the Breville Fast Slow came out top two.

      • I’ve also got an instant pot duo nova as well. The only thing I’m not happy about was I didn’t buy it any sooner!!

Stainless steel inner pot is fine, dishwasher safe. If you wanted the non stick Ceramic inner pot, you can also buy additional pot too. I personally haven’t found the need to buy the non stick one. Stainless steel one has been easy to clean.

Not too sure about the tefal one, looks good as well. Probably all comes down to personal preferences.

  • Be aware that there's an "SV" model of this unit - only available at Costco I think, but it adds Sous Vide functionality.
I've had the Duo Nova for a while, and quite happy with it, but wish I'd gotten the SV function

    • I thought the sv only came in 5.6L, or the much more expensive airfryer one

    • There's another model on Amazon "Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus" from the UK but just needs an Australian power cord apparently to work. This seems to have the Sous Vide function and is possibly a newer model than the SV?

      Unfortunately shipping is expensive (>$100)

Is this good? Many people have complained it burned food

    • +2

Its great. Just have to make sure the pot is deglazed properly before pressure cooking.

    • It's great. Need to have enough liquid when you're pressure cooking so the burning warning wont come up.

    • I've never seen burn warning on mine. I brown meat in cast iron frypan (only because it's easier and gives better result) and never add flour (unless pot in pot) until after pressure cooking has finished.

      • what's your trick to you add flour after pressure cooking so it dosen't clump up?

        • I make a roux before it goes in, thickens up in minutes. A lot of people will make a slurry of cornflour and cold water to add as a thickener…I can't stand the taste of cornflour and haven't tried it.

        • Depends on what your palette can handle, if you want to thicken without a strong aroma then you grind a few cashew nuts (plain not salted) with a little like warm water and that can thicken the sauce or even sautéed onions. As ozbargain mentioned below mix the cornflour in water and stir well before adding to the pan sauce.

This is a fab appliance. Wish I had bought one sooner. I have been cooking one pot dishes so easily with this.
Personally, it has been a much more useful appliance than the air fryer (sold that off in two months)

    Got one, thanks OP.

  • This or ninja foodi?

  • How does this compare to the Costco Philips one that comes with stainless steel and bonus non stick pots?

    • +1

I have the Philips one and bought one instant pot from this deal. Philips works fine, the pressure Cook function is so good. Save me so much time in the kitchen. It's a very versatile machine, can braise meat, ribs, cook rice, curry, bake cake and make yogurt. I'm now buying the instant pot so I can use 2 pots at the same time. :) from what I read, there isn't much difference in these two, so my advice is to get whatever is cheaper. Now I rarely use my cast iron pot for meat stew

I read good reviews of this by The Wirecutter - it's their top-pick. Online resources also look great including the app. I had it on my list and now I've ordered.

  • I recently bought a Multicooker with the airfryer attachment+function (didn't get it for the best price sadly but I know I'll use it lots!) Brand is Masterpro – the Electrical Ultimate All-in-One Multi Cooker and Air Fryer 5Ltr and I love it! Multi cookers are where it's at if you cook a lot and use those functions! Surprisingly can cook rice as well tho not much reviews on this brand Masterpro compared to instapot which has rave reviews! https://youtu.be/Wxo2fMO8KRk
