    Ehhh

  • +21

    Oof.

  • +2

Not a good month, also in my experiance PvZ was dead on PC and Xbox Gamepass. Tennis World Tour 2 would sound intresting except its got a meta in the 50's. Hunters Arena has mixed reviews.

  • +6

I don't think i'll bother getting another ps plus sub when my current one expires. Compared to gamepass it really is weak

    • +1

Yea one game pass does streaming, I’ll cancel psplus and use the ps5 for exclusives and stream everything else

      • +2

Exclusives seems to be all they got these days

    • +12

You're comparing apples and oranges as PS Plus and Game Pass are very different services.

      • -8

Both are paid subscriptions for free to play games which would otherwise cost money. The differences are what makes the xbox game pass head and shoulders better than ps plus. I'm not a huge fan of subscription based services in general, but they are ultimately the same thing. The Xbox subscription is more expensive, which is a downside.

When gamepass is going from strength to strength, sony bring out this pitiful list of games.

        • +7

          They're not really the same.

PS Plus = Xbox Live Gold (Online multiplayer, monthly freebies, etc.)

PS Now = Xbox Gamepass (Game subscription services)

PS Plus freebies are almost always miles ahead of the Xbox ones. Gamepass is better than PS Now (and actually available in Australia).

          • -1

@andehh: Game Pass is still better than the PS Plus offerings though, day 1 AAA games launch into the service. But if you compare Gold to Plus it's better, Game Pass is better than both combined though.

          • @andehh: Your comparison is not really fair.

PS Now ≠ Xbox Gamepass on consoles. PS Now is mostly streaming whereas Gamepass you have to actually download the game to your console. Big difference.

            • +1

@ironsword: As far as I'm aware many (all?) of the PS4 games on the service are available for download. Anything older is streaming only though since Sony doesn't care about backwards compatibility like Microsoft does.

Gamepass also offers streaming for some games.

      • Don't you need ps plus to play online? That's the only reason I get ps plus

        • Yeah, sucks when the other perks are useless though, so ps5 only really only good for exclusives and online playing those!

I grabbed it as I was able to sell my ps4 pro! Don't have the new Xbox but the free ps plus games have been not my cup of tea for a long long time!

Fall guys was the last game I actually got & played! Just missed out on latest abes Odyssey, bit annoyed given it was only due to ps5 no stock issues

      • -1

It's more like comparing an apple with a very old pear no one wants.

    • +5

I’m a die hard Xbox fanatic but there is no comparison with Xbox game pass and PS Plus. A better comparison would be games with gold and ps plus. Sony hasn’t even announced a game pass competitor and is apparently working with Netflix

      • +1

Sony have had a game pass competitor for years with PS Now, which first started in 2015. They just don't seem to care much about it, given the limited range of games and the fact that they don't even make it available in some markets (like Australia). Sony treat it like an afterthought, and Nintendo don't seem interested in doing it at all.

        • They’ve come out and said it’s apart of gaikai which they bought out as a streaming service it’s not a competitor. Jim Ryan said they are still working out the kinks of there next pass system which is already being trialed in Poland with movies

  • +16

Should rename to August 2021 PoS Plus Games.

      • -2

Haha. Touched a nerve I see

        • -3

          Whiners gonna whine

I'm GoInG tO CaNcEl My sUb

          …next month…

I'm GoInG tO CaNcEl My sUb

      • +7

It wouldn't be an issue if Sony offered a pause a month feature like Humble Choice, for people on annual subscriptions cancelling over a bad month doesn't accomplish much, as they've already paid for it.

  • +1

In before the….. never mind, too late.

  • +11

Yeah, look. I appreciate that they’re giving us these games for “free” (meaning that’s an exorbitant cost just for online play) but it’s quite underwhelming. Whilst it’s cheaper than gamepass and you also “own” the games (provided you maintain your sub vs can be pulled from gamepass) when the games on offer are almost worthless and likely downloaded but never played, then what’s the point.

Would rather they just scrap PS Plus games, and just cut the price for a gameplay only service than this half-baked offering.

  • +4

sad as games are bad this month

    • Edited due to
      ‘Oops… Responded to wrong comment…’

  • +10

This has to be up there as one of the worst months. I would rather just one decent game at this point, or as someone said above. Scrap it and give us a cheaper offering

  • +3

The last 3 months have been ab-miss all. Regretting getting my ps+ sub now.

    • +20

A Plague Tale: Innocence this month was actually very good. Recommend giving it a try. Do agree next month is very lacking.

      • +6

True, but it has also been on gamepass for well over a year, which is where I already played it.

The first few months of PSPlus after the PS5 launch was great, day 1 releases and a lot of higher profile stuff that really made it look like they were atleast trying to rival microsoft, lately it's been very forgettable though =(

        • If you believe the rumours, Playstation/Netflix collaboration to come. I don't believe it but if it has any truth it will definitely be the rival to Game Pass.

        • Isn’t game pass $15 a month?

          • @onlinepred: Heh, I honestly don't know. I bought into those VPN+Gold Membership+Ultimate Upgrade methods that were making the rounds last year and am paid up until 2023 for chips. I guess once that expires I'll take another look at the monthly cost and see if it is worth it on a month-by-month basis depending on the offerings at the time.

At the very least it's good that Microsoft announces ahead of time and gives a schedule of what's set to come out for us to plan ahead.

            • @Stoibs: Yea it’s $15 a month. $180 a year can $59

When Xbox ultimate does streaming well, I’ll give up upgrading my PC and sell the Xbox, just PlayStation, phone and tv.

          • +2

@onlinepred: $16. $192 per year. That is until they price jack it once they get enough people on it.

            • @Valowick: No, if you're going to be comparing Game Pass to PS + it is $10.95/month.

$15.95/month is Game Pass Ultimate, which includes PC.

          • @onlinepred: It is but rolls in Xbox Live at that price so it's roughly the same cost as PS Plus for the same thing, Online play and Games with Gold so you can own a couple of games rotating every month, Plus the whole Game Pass library.

I've got both because any way you cut it it's good value if you're a gamer. I've bought two games in the last 12 months, Hitman 3 and Cyberpunk (and returned that), everything else I play is a free download.

      • +1

i actually really wanted that game but on ps4. I played the trailer last year and was def going to play the full game at some point. Don't have any plan on getting a ps5 til there is a cheap slim version available.

        • +1

Wouldn't hold your breath for a PS5 Slim version. It's the size it is due to the required cooling and nothing will change that unless they go water cooling (too expensive/impractical) or swap out vastly more efficient APUs (which do not exist and isn't going to happen as current semi-conductor shortages will continue well into 2022).

Moreover, AMD's roadmap is all about higher performance chips over next few generations so it's more likely we'll get a PS5 Pro in 2023 with RDNA3, much higher performance & focus on FSR upscaling/FidelityFX which will be used to push 8K TV sales as the next marketing drive. Not to mention PSVR2 next year.

If you spend a lot of time on your PS4 and have a 4K HDR TV, you will benefit greatly with a PS5 today. If you can find one.

          • +1

@Hybroid: A PS5 Slim could easily launch in 2023-2024 alongside the Pro using a lower power consumption RDNA3 (Or 4) and Zen 4 (or 5) APU. RDNA3 and 4 will get a similar massive Performance Per Watt improvements comparable to GCN->RDNA1->RDNA2. (50%). AMD can't realistically sell a 450W 7800XT after all.

Sony could easily do it, but I agree that it isnt worth waiting for though.

            • -1

@Vinodra: You're dreaming if you think a Pro is even coming in 2024. It will be 2023-2024 until they get supply under control.

              • @Justin9mm: PS4 Release Nov 2013
                PS4 Pro Release Nov 2016

PS5 Supply issues have nothing to do with potential R&D (which is mostly done by AMD in the first place), the PS5 has also outsold the PS4 in the same timeframe so I really dont see where you are coming from.

Thats like saying NVIDIA cant make an RTX 40 series because they are struggling to keep up with demand for the RTX 30 series, its largely irrelevant and even if it did have an impact, it would be small, thus why I said 2023-2024.

                • @Vinodra: I never said they won't be manufacturing it earlier.. Supply issues have everything to do with when they are going to release it. Also the situation with PS5 is unprecedented compared to previous console launch history. There will be some sort of delay with launch of a Pro.

                  • @Justin9mm: Keep thinking that, PS5 has still outsold the PS4 in to date sales since it launched by a large margin, Sony doesn't really care if you personally haven't been able to buy one. The Switch was also very hard to buy for the first year it was on the market, yet Nintendo has still released 2 new variations so your point is irrelevant.

A console being hard to buy in its first year will never delay future consoles, especially when it is still outselling the previous generation.

        • In 5 years haha

    • +7

Final fantasy 7, wreckfest, plague tale, squadrons. I thinks it’s still fantastic value.

      • +5

There's been some great games lately, people are just upset because they already own them (or and something they are personally into). Not sure August will have many defenders though…

    • +5

$50 a year and you are complaining after just a few months. Already had some great games.

  • +14

Man buying that PS5 with all that amazing hardware just to play Plant Vs Zombies.

    • +6

Yeah crazy to think that's the only game playable on the PS5 eh???

    • +2

If that’s all that person wanted to play, why tease him

  • Is this confirmed or just leaks?

    • Confirmed on their own blog.

  • +2

Not a great month admittedly but as a huge sports fan I'll give TWT a go.

I have no complaints for whatever games they gives us even though I barely play any of them (personal taste in games)…..but you win some, you lose some unless you share the typical gamer mentality these days which is simply that nothing is really ever good enough.

  • +2

Crazy that people are even comparing this to game pass. Literally 5x the price of PS plus, and there's nothing I don't own or even want to play on game pass.

    • +5

I'm paying a little over $3 a month for PS+, so while the offerings this month might be shit I certainly won't be losing any sleep over it.

Agree with you on GP and sick of hearing about it all the time.

    • +1

Eh, depends. There were all the 'Stack up on Gold>Upgrade to Ultimate' methods last year making the effective cost of 3 years of GP somewhat trivial, as well as the ~28USD PsPlus annual subs on CDKeys, so pricing comparisons are going to vary significantly.

Gamepass is the winner for me as someone who loves all these indies like Bug Fables, Cris Tales and Last Stop at the moment.
Got Hades, Psychonauts 2, Sable and 12 minutes future wishlisted and then stuff like Back4Blood which all pays for the price of admission itself.

      To each their own.

      • +2

I bought 55 Pringles half price at Woolies last year at $2. Each one had a 1 week Ultimate Gamepass code. Therefore ~$110 for 1 year plus 55 cans of Pringles.

My hands haven't yet recovered from ripping open the airseal cover and taking off the plastic lid. My boyfriend still hasn't spoken to me since after making him enter each code into a spreadsheet ready for me to redeem…

Possibly my low point in my pursuit in being the world's biggest cheapskate

        • So who ate all those pringles?

          • +3

@serpserpserp: We ate what we could. They started getting stale after a while.

I still have 9 sitting on my kitchen island and feed some to the chooks each day.

        • +1

This is amazing. Truly. I can only imagine how well those pringles went with your gaming sessions

          • +1

@Lanushi: Glad you liked my ridiculous contribution lol. Will make for a good party conversation started for years to come.

    • +7

      @plmko:

“ Literally 5x the price of PS plus”

That’s some crazy math I wanna know how you pulled your calculations…

Take both at RRP face value…

One year PlayStation Pluse @ $79.95
(Fairly regularly discounted but you get the idea…)

      VS

3 months Game Pass Ultimate @ $47.95 RRP
(But keeping in mind that’s also occasionally discounted or has even been 3 months + bonus 3 months for that price)

47.95 x 4 = $191.80 for one year Game Pass Ultimate at absolute most

Did y’all know $191.80 is FIVE TIMES $79.95?!?

I though $79.95 times five was like $399.75
My calculation must be all the way broken…

Hyperbole is killer pal. If you’d even said three times than maybe but 5 times?!?

I GUARANTEE in a year or even in a three month sub you’d find something to make that Game Pass sub worth your while…

Game Pass Ultimate is undoubtedly more expensive… but trying to convince that PS+ is better value than Game Pass Ultimate is just kidding yourself

      • -3

I liked the part where YOU WENT B4T5HIT INSANE? !??!!!

        Hyperbole is killer pal

See I'd have said irony but you wouldn't get it

      • +2

Don't compare GamePass Ultimate, use standard Game Pass for Console - $33 for 3 months.

PS + does not give any PC games

      • You can't compare PS Plus and game pass ultimate because the latter includes much more. game pass is $10.95 which you should be comparing.

    • +1

game pass isn't 5x the price, what are you smoking it's $79.95 (plus) vs $131.40 (game pass) and game pass has AAA games launching day 1 into the service unlike ps plus.

  • Excited for Tennis World Tour 2. The first one was good.

  • will i loose access to ps plus games with ps5 if i don't continue with my subscription?

    • Yes

  • +1

More like "PS Minus Games" for August.

  • Y'all should check out Splitgate. Free to play shooter which is pretty damn good. Better than this garbage.

  • +3

Oh, c'mon… I renewed my PS Plus for this BS?!

    • Luckily this is only 1 month of 12.

  • +1

    Ouch ouch ouch….

    Ouch…

  • +2

This has got to be the worst month since I started my sub in November 2013…

  • -4

You guys should've expected a couple dull months this year. They've already done tons of great games for psplus. Calm your tits

    • How is that relevant?

A paid service having good months in the past does not give it a free pass from criticism.

If a month sucks, people should absolutely speak out so Sony knows that people aren't interested in games like these as PS+ titles.

This isn't just a dull month, its the worst month since I began my subscription. A dead multiplayer game that is trying to boost its player base, a niche sports game and a battle royale.. no thanks.

      • -2

I'm saying calm your tits. People here are acting like this is the worst thing Sony has ever done to them. Yes, complain that it's a shit month but acting like this month is justification for Sony to just give up, end PS plus and go die in the gutter because the months games were so offensive to them… Give me a break. Stop it. Get help.

        • You're telling people to stop it and get help over being disappointed in a service they pay for?

Clearly the people complaining about this month are the ones who have issues, not you lmao…

          • -2

@Vinodra: Last time. Calm your tits and read what I'm writing. It's okay to complain. It's not okay to say Sony should cancel PS Plus over ONE bad month. I'm not saying you should shut up. I'm telling you some people are being irrational.

BTW I agree with another comment you made. Sony should reshape PS Plus into something closer to Humble Choice and let customers pause bad months (bad being very subjective). PS plus is about the games and always has been. Online multiplayer should've never been rolled into PS Plus to begin with. In the beginning it was incredible value. It's been great value every year it's been out. Even now. Including this year, this dog shit month included.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You are and so am I.

  • +1

PvZ should be fun, especially if plus boost server numbers.
I bought the previous game in the need for speed $5 bundle deal last week and can still find co op games.

  • +1

    Best! Month! Ever! said nobody.

  • +3

I'm a PS+ apologist but this bent toward mostly multiplayer games, not just regularly but now more or less every month, is starting to annoy.

  • +1

    Double fault…

  • +2

    Weak and bad month PS..

  • +1

So PvZ 2009 is easily in the top 5 of my all time favourite games. Have been wanting to try the second one. How disappointed will I be?

    • Depends.

How much do you like micro-transactions?

      • Zero. What a shame
