Downgrading Phone: What Phone to Get? (Budget $100 - $250)

Hi all. This is a bit odd, but I'm wanting to downgrade my phone. Needing some extra cash. I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE for $514 via trade in. Mobile Monster is offering $510.

Budget is $100-$250. I'll be just using it for Facebook, Netflix, downloading files.

Just having 4G isn't an issue.

I personally can't imagine things getting bad enough to need to downgrade my phone.
I don't have any suggestions for cheaper phones, but I do hope things get better for you real soon.

No need to imagine it. Shit happens.

There's been quite a few times where I've gone for days without food (just had no money), but the thought of downgrading my phone isn't something I've given much thought to (and if I had to think about it now, I don't think the few hundred dollars I'd get from selling my phone would last for very long at all).

    • yeah personaly if money was such an issue i wouldn't have got an mid tier phone 500 plus in the first place, but yeah free market

      • I purchased it last year when it was first released. Money wasn't an issue then, but it is now.

I'd be looking into the Motorola G series.

    • I was thinking of getting the G30. I'm not a heavy user.

  • Without getting too much in to it, will freeing up as little as $250 (if you potentially spend the upper limit of the budget) fix your dilemma?

I think anything cheap from Oppo, Motorola etc will do the job ok but I wouldn't expect too much out of it for the price you're paying really.

Perhaps a used phone will offer better value?

  • That sucks. I'm just wondering if there's something else you can cut back on. How much are you paying for home internet and phone plan?

agree, OP should revisit spending habits, I'm sure this and this are the tip of the iceberg.

We're honestly trying to help. The cost of multiple subscriptions (P+, Netflix, disney and vpn) add up. Sailing the high seas is an option (not condoning this) and there are a few free streaming services such as ABC iview, SBS on demand and youtube and some libraries.

Any other things you can cut back on? having a slow phone is painful

          • @Caped Baldy: I only have Netflix (via the Turkey method) I'm not subbed to P+ I can't get it to work on my end. I have a VPN,which i did through cashrewards.

            I don't drink or smoke.

One of my dogs has been sick and I've spent $1,000 thus far. She's a senior dog and I don't know how long she has left,tbh..

op spending big on brand name chips like lays,

        • Yes,only having once and costing $2.50 from Aldi.

  • consider the costs of a downgrade, my cheaper sub 200 phone is laggy, i sometimes miss calls,

there are lots of offers with phones that have nfc too,

real me c3 is fine i guess,

Almost $250. Not laggy at all. Host of features. It took just over 1 week to arrive to me near Brisbane (shipped via Sydney).

Has Android 11. Will likely be upgraded to 12. It most likely will only get security updates beyond that.

  • Feedback from the Budget smart phone poll indicates the realme C3 is a pretty decent budget device.

  • Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC or Pro FTW.

They smashed the last poll https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/620812
