I picked up a few packets of Lay's from ALDI and noticed that it says Smith's on the back.
Have they always had the rights or is this a new thing?

Thank you!
Did they used to sell Lay's back in the day or is this a new kinda thing?
Lay's is the branding in other countries like USA. It's called Smith's here and Walkers in the UK.
All of them are owned by parent company PepsiCo.

(Also Doritos, Cheetos, Ruffles, Twisties, Tostitos, Sunchips etc…)
I think the Lays packets that you saw at Aldi are intact imported from another country and not actually manufactured here locally..
I can confirm they aren't imported. I bought them from ALDI a few times thinking they were made in the USA. But it says it's made in Australia on the bag. They just use the USA packaging
Same ** company
It's not really like that though. Hungry Jacks was the Australian franchise for BK, but they couldn't call it BK as the name was already taken by a Melbourne restaurant that refused to give it up, therefore they couldn't register their TMs here.
Smiths was a company in the UK and Australia that was bought by Nabsico and then sold to Fritolay, who was owned by Pepsi. Lays had to sell a bunch of brands to get it through the regulator, including Thins, CCs, Cheezels, etc, so the Lay brand was kind of packed up. They seem to continue to keep the brand separate as the Smiths brand has capital here and in the UK and we like to pretend they are Australian.
BK is different company to HJ they had a long legal fight.
Never heard of Google?
Pretty sure they were called lays here for a while too
100%. They had a double thickness ruffled chip that was the bomb.
yep. lays thins light and tangy remind me of my childhood
Does anyone here remember O'Gradys Chips? They were the best, and so THICK. They disappeared in Australia in the early 90s. :(
Once you go thick, you can't go back!
Just because dey have an Oirish name doesn't necessarily mean dey are 'Tick'
Samboy are good and hard to find, but read the back and owned by Smith's lol
I think you must of got them mixed up with another packet of chips. Samboy is owned by Snack Brands Australia
Hmm so they are
Lynx = Axe
Quarter Pounder = Royale with Cheese
lol yes
Its like the Burger King - Hungry Jacks saga
Different countries, different names… but some company though.
