Domino's Pizza (Wyoming, NSW) Refuses to Serve at The Counter!

I went to my local Domino's Pizza (Wyoming, NSW Central Coast, 2250) last night.

I was wearing a KN95 mask.

They have blocked the doorway with a table. I could not walk in.

A sign says - "Pickup Only!".

I told them I didn't have a phone on me, but had a card and cash and could I order and pay for a Premium Vegetarian pizza.

The rude guy said "No, you can only order by App now." and walked away.

I went across the road to the Pizza Hut, walked in, ordered and paid and got my Pizza 15 minutes later.

Gosford-Wyoming Domino's is obviously using COVID as excuse to have terrible customer service.

Has anyone else experienced this at any other Dominos?

How can I complain?

Different companies have different policies. Most likely Domino's is running through a click and collect manner and whatever you complain wont change anything.
The guy was most likely 'rude' because he would of got in trouble if he let you in…

The rude guy said "No, you can only order by App now." and walked away.

How rude!! It sounds like they were conspiring against you.

Has anyone else experienced this at any other Dominos?

No, I haven't experienced you doing this at any Domino's.

    How can I complain?

    You just did.

Seriously though, I don't think they'd care if they marginalised the absolutely tiny majority that don't want to use a phone to order.

is this really your biggest issue in life?
you got a pizza who cares move on

      • +11

        then consider yourself lucky.
people are losing business, etc etc. all you lost is the ability to get a fricken pizza. the starving kids africa must feel sorry for you

          • +9

@mikemiroslav: i think it would suck to be you with a mind like that.
            good day, enjoy your pizza

      • Well, you have a very sad life then !

He wants freebys for having his life ruined by having to enter a Pizza Hut

  • +5

Domino's is obviously using COVID as any excuse not to do work.

My understanding is that places are meant to be "take away" or "pick up" only.

Retail premises must close — but click-and-collect, takeaway and home-delivery services can still operate.

You can see exceptions in the following link:

    https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/covid19-restriction-checker/…

    • -4

      I see.

Does your local Domino's allow people to walk in and order take away at the counter?

    • +1

Isn't ordering food and leaving when you got it considered take away?

From you your link You must wear your mask when you’re working outdoors and in outdoor markets, outdoor shopping strips and outdoor queues where you're waiting for goods such as coffee and food.

      • -3

        Correct.

The Gosford Dominos wouldn't let me order food, though, without a phone.

        That's bad customer service.

  • -6

Arent you in lockdown? Wasnt aware Domino's was an essential service.

    • +6

All food shops are classified as Essential Service in NSW.

  • +1

I complained to Dominos about something last week. Never heard anything back. Don’t waste your time.

    • -4

Did your local Domino's also block people from entering their store???

      • No it was a quality complaint

  • +13

    Cry me a river

  • +3

Bizarre to not allow ordering, but perhaps they don't want anyone in the store and don't have the ability to bring the register and EFTPOS machine to the front door, hence app only ordering is more of a practical measure than anything else.

There are bigger problems. Hope you enjoyed your pizza.

    • They can do what other Domino's stores do, they can let people walk in with a mask, order and pay at the counter, then leave.

I think the Wyoming Gosford store is just using COVID as an excuse, to have terrible customer service.

I think the Wyoming Gosford store is just using COVID as an excuse, to have terrible customer service.

        To what end?

        • -1

          Customer Service end.

        • +11

Franchise owner wants to lose money, using the pandemic as a convenient cover to serve fewer customers.

Brilliant logic, mikemiroslav. Maybe drop a line to ACurrentAffair and get some real digging to see how far down this goes.

          • -2

            @Crow K: Exactly right!

            I'm glad you understood.

The less customers they serve, the more Government subsidy they can get.

If they get a 30% downturn on sales, they can claim $15,000 from the Government.

As you asked, I've just written to [email protected] for them to investigate further.

            • +2

@mikemiroslav: I enjoyed it more when it was you just being a Karen trying to get some community outrage for a brief personal inconvenience.

This whole "I'm leaning into it and I'm playing along whilst actually holding these views" thing is a slightly disappointing outcome … so I'll be back here tomorrow making a forum post about it and asking everyone else to get upset about it as well.

            • @mikemiroslav: Unless it's a really small store with low turnover, they'd rather stay open and selling as much as they can than get paid out $15k from the government. Staff loss and thus retraining cost (if they didn't lose staff then staff wages), lost of produce due to expiration, rent, utilities and advertising wasted would eat a very large chunk of that $15k.

Local setup a table in doorway. I always use app so I can use coupons, I never order instore because paying RRP is dumb.

    I'm supportive of this procedure.

Dont have phone with you? Thought everyone did the 3 pat Wallet-phone-keys before leaving home?

    • -1

No, not everyone has a phone.

      • +8

So dont bother using QR codes to check in to places?

    • +18

No coupon is the real scandal here. OP is on the wrong site.

  • +3

i got u br0, come to my house, i'll order for you
i accept cash and all major credit cards and paypal

To answer your incoming reply, yes my local Domino's is open for walk-ins

Though yes, who the hell pays full price for Domino's?!!

    • The people that pay full price in store are probably the exact type of people I wouldn't want in the store during covid as they don't have the sense to order for a heavily discounted price online…

      • +3

Luckily you don't run a small business!

Non-coupon customers make you more profit.

        • +1

Clearly Dominos don't seem to care about walk in customers, and they haven't' for a long time, well before covid.

They clearly know what they are doing.

          • -2

            @samfisher5986: Wrong.

            Only the Gosford Domino's.

            Other Dominos allow walk-in's.

The Gosford store will probably go broke soon, due to this policy.

            • +2

@mikemiroslav: What I meant was, Dominos as a company push everyone to using the app/online, so they clearly don't want to encourage walk in customers or ordering without "deals". "deals" is how they make a lot of sales and profit, you can't even make it to the checkout screen without having 2-3 deals thrown at you.

This is the Dominos business model and plenty of other companies do similar things. Minimising staff costs is their #1 goal.

            • +2

@mikemiroslav: Highly doubt they'll go broke because of this policy. My local pizza hut did this during the first Sydney lock down and they're still in business.

            • @mikemiroslav: I dunno. This particular Dominos always seems very very busy. I don't actually see it going broke anytime soon.

      • 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

  • +6

If you can't walk in, walk away…

    • Exactly!

That's what I did and encourage others to do the same.

      • I encourage you and others to carry their phones when outside! It's 2021!

  • +6

Shops have the right to set the terms of entry as long as they don't violate state or federal laws. It sounds like this shop is exercising their right to not allow customers to enter the premises for health reasons.

    • Yep, not illegal.

Just bad customer service, using COVID as an excuse.

Especially when other Domino's shops allow people to walk in.

      • +3

Then go to other stores… problem solved.

  • +6

    First world problem :)

  • +3

It's a bit dumb of them.

You'd think at such a time as this they'd want all the business they can get.

Maybe they've bought into the propaganda and fear more than other store owners have.

Perhaps they're trying to limit their income so they're eligible for government handouts?

    • +1

Perhaps they're trying to limit their income so they're eligible for government handouts?

I didn't think of that but that sounds entirely plausible.

      As does this:

they've bought into the propaganda and fear more than other store owners have.

Exactly. Considering there have been no cases on the Central coast for close to a month and people are locked-down.

  • +5

Someone remind me to have a day trip to Gosford just to buy a pizza from this Dominos when Sydney's lock down ends.

    • -1

      Bwhahahahahaha!

What, to give them a piece of your mind???

  • +5

    See, even Karen's wear masks.

  • +4

During the QLD lockdowns and current general restrictions my local Dominos store has had signs up and still does saying "No counter orders. pre paid pick up only no cash accepted" also a sign saying "Don't come into the store unless directed." These signs where still visible as far back as last week when I walked past it. I can maybe look again tomorrow take a picture of them if it's that important.
I'm pretty sure it comes down to store's personal choice. Store A might have a hard enforcement and Store B just doesn't. shrugs

    • +5

but penguincat, did it ruin your life and cause you to run to OzB and denounce QLD local dominos store?

Or is this the Gosford store only?

      • The Gosford store only.

  • +2

What part of pickup only through the app don't you understand?

  • +1

Why didn't you post about this last night when you created your account?

    • +6

You don't rush poetry. You can't compel a man to sum up the entirety of his being in a moment.

It takes a lifetime of introspection and self-review to even begin the process.

In the absence of either of those, a day and a OzBargain account work as well.

      • Exactly. I didn't want to rush poetry.

    • Still eating his pizza….

    • The library closed and he doesn't have a phone

  • +2

It was too dark under their bridge to post this last night maybe?

  • 🎻

  • You're bitching about one outlet not selling you shit pizza so you walk across the road to another chain to get your shit pizza.

    Oh, the injustice…

I searched up your area. Couldn't you have gone to Hungry Wolf's instead?

Losing the sale of a Karen is better than having to put their staff at risk (which the managers have a duty of care to) and to be shut down.

hmmm … OP sounds like a monaro driving Karen 🤔

  • who would have walked in without ordering online with a $7.95 (traditional) or $10.9 (premium/super premium) coupon

  • +3

Half the country is in lockdown, businesses are struggling to keep open, shortage of staff - and your biggest gripe is that you couldn't get a pizza in the way you wanted? I understand that in the moment it may have inconvenienced you, but you have a computer I see, so order on their website moving forward.

To your point about why aren't they letting me in to make an order - there can be multiple reasons. I would say they are trying to keep things simple & safe for their staff. While I applaud you for wearing a mask, not everyone does, and you then have to ask your staff to be placed in danger because someone's got an "exemption" and they're trying to prove a point by coming in and taking their sweet time.

  • +1

I went to Maccas at Mingara tonight, I walked in. Try there next time.

  • +3

So boring. I demand $50 in domino's credit from OP for this waste.

  • +1

Is Wyoming not in lockdown? Looking at the map it sure looks like it. I’m more confused to as why some Cronk was casually walking around town looking for a pizza without a phone during a lockdown then why some store is following policy and common sense. I don’t blame them I wouldn’t trust the phoneless Karen who can apparently afford to pay for over priced shit pizza without a coupon but can’t go to a coles or woolies and pick up a cheap phone. How were you going to to check in? You apparently don’t have a phone. my 83 year old grand father has a phone, sort your life out, you clearly got bigger problems going on then some random dominos store not giving you service.

  • Wrong.

There is no legal requirement to own a phone in NSW.

All stores are required by law to provide a manual check-in method, with a pen and paper:

    http://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/rules/check-in
    "
If there is no way to record your details electronically, such as if the internet is not available, the venue can still record your contact details on paper. They must transfer the details to an electronic system as soon as possible.
    "

    • Who said there is a legal requirement to carry a phone? The person above suggests you sort your life out. The staff did not give you consent to enter the store in writing, not because of discrimination against who you are. They are okay you do pick up, but you insist asserting your take away right in a lockdown.

  • +1

If it's any consolation, Pizza Hut tastes much better than Domino's 😁

  • "A sign says - "Pickup Only!"."

    Whats your problem again?

    • -3

My problem is that this is the only Domino's that doesn't Takeaway orders. Not everyone has a phone on them all the time.

Other Domino's allow it, so should they.

  • They're barricading store entrances now? Haha, I can understand why. Signs don't work with humans.
