Worst fridge and company ever. Bought 1 last year and nothing but problems with the repalcement and replacement after that. Awful customer service from Haier (and JB hi Fi). Went for a Hisense instead. Not a single problem now.

    • Was it this model coz im considering it

      • 520L model. Most likely based on same compressor

        • Ta. I’m gonna risk it. The 90 day no questions asked money back has swayed me. Works out around $750 after gift card.

Let’s see if the old adage is true that you get what you pay for. :D

        • THIS!

I don't know why you wouldn't get this LG model over the Haier. I paid $796 for it last week during the TGG 20% sale. Reliability.

Plus check all the comments :)

    • Be aware Haier also owns fisher and paykel

      • Had me curious. Apparently biggest appliance company in the world by sales. Though that’s from their website so unsure how valid

Second this. Had this exact model, electrics in the display went within 6 months. Whole fridge packed in after 14 months.
Terrible customer service and piss poor product. Avoid!

Fridge isn't something you cheap out with

    • Scarily there's not much choice

We went looking for 500l bottom mount fridges with a single door. Excluding Haier there's 3. Two of which are the same fridge (electrolux & Westinghouse) with marginally different layout. And they have known issues. So i got stuck with the f&p despite knowing it's really a Haier.

If you like French door or top mount you have choices. But imho top mount is stupid.

Try Mitsubishi. Even better made in Japan one but prepare to pay more though.

        • Yeah, you get what you pay for.

    • Wish we all had $2000 for a fridge.

  • I’m starting to wonder if the reviews on appliances online are faked. https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/haier-450l-botto…

  • Had the earlier model of this fridge (HBM450SA1) which had really badly designed crisper drawer rails, which made it hard to open/close the crisper. It also started leaking water on the floor.

The drain tube for defrosting was near impossible to get to, with the ice build-up. Rang F&P to get it looked at under warranty. Tech says "You'll have to leave it turned off for a couple of days and allow the build-up of ice to melt first before we can do anything else, or you can clear the drain tube yourself".

Went and bought an Electrolux, swapped out the perishables and threw the Haier outside. There was so much ice in the bastard it took days for it to all melt. Finally was able to get to the drain tube, was a really tiny diameter hole, so didn't take much for it to get blocked. Crap design. Flogged it off on Scumtree.

  • If you are in Western Sydney I highly recommend these guys on gumtree AAA OK APPLIANCES PENRITH.

I got a pretty good deal on a second hand fridge.

Which got me out of a pickle when my last fridge randomly died.

They do really great prices on basically used appliances.

But they only deliver to Western Sydney as far as I know unless you make it worthwhile.

  • Damn. Too deep for my fridge space.

  • Yea. don't buy this. I'm currently trying to get mine replaced through appliances online after it's basically dead after 11 months

    • Sooooo, bought it. Bing Lee were fantastic. Delivery driver even said ‘if any issues, call us, don’t go to manufacturer as we’ll sort it out quicker than them.’

So far it’s whisper quiet and works well. Love the crisper and separate meat container.

But I’ll be sure to hang on to the receipt!

      • I have the HRF450BS2 and I bought it a little more than a week ago. I'm wondering why you consider it whisper quiet? Mine makes a very noticeable humming noise for 20 minutes every 40 minutes, 24/7 (I used a sound meter and measured so I reviewed the recorded graphs to measure the frequency).

Most of the time it makes that hum, and sometimes it makes a high pitch screech.

I have also leveled it using the adjustable feet and it reduced the noise by 4db, but it's still noticeable.

        • I call it whisper quiet because I can’t hear it like I could the smaller westinghouse i had at my other place, especially at night. Yes occasionally there’s a small hum, but nothing above ambient night time noise.

What are your temp settings? Mine are the default.

I’ve noticed it’s louder when I load it up. But probably only until it gets back to target temperature.

Then again I’ve only had it a very short time. Fingers crossed.

          • @Vote for Pedro: Default setting as well. 5 degrees and -18 respectively.

It's follows the pattern of noise even if I do use the super freeze option.

I guess it's more noticeable to me as the kitchen is open plan and everyone in the living/dining room can hear it.

Maybe you had a good batch if it's not making a noise for 20 minutes every 40 minutes. If so, congrats! The Haier tech have not responded to me even after a week.

            • @infraredshell: Maybe I got lucky. Time will tell. Bing Lee were adamant I call them directly if any issues and not to bother with Haier.

  • Update: fingers crossed all going really well
