I'd avoid anything to do with Peloton after reading this: https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2021/06/pelotons-new-tread-proble…

Yikes. I’m not a Tread+ owner though so it doesn’t affect me. I share the same sentiment stated in the article you linked:

“It’s hard to feel bad for people who can drop more than $US4,000 ($5,130) for a treadmill and chose to do so precisely because it was Peloton’s hardware. You can buy a cheaper treadmill and still access Peloton’s treadmill classes via a much more affordable $US13 ($17) digital-only subscription.”

For now I’m just using the app for a no-frills free 3-month access to check out the fitness and meditation classes and programs on offer and use it to stay physically active and mentally sane whilst in lockdown.

Interesting story. Not really a reason not to subscribe though. What happened:

A small kid died cos he used the device unsupervised. Peloton has added a PIN feature so that won't (easily) happen again. However, currently, to get the PIN you need a paid subscription - with 3 months free susbscription up front so no one will be worse off for now. It seems like this was the easiest and quickest way to implement the new safety feature. Peloton has committed to providing the PIN functionality in the future without requiring a paid subscription. I expect it will be sorted soon enough. Not really a reason to avoid the company IMO.

Hold up, they didn't include it in the product. And only added it when kids got killed.

Yep, then planned to charge a monthly subscription.

          • @DashCam AKA Rolts: That part was misleading by media @seb is correct. I'm just against unsafe products
