This or be quiet! Dark Rock Pro?

    • I personally would go back to a beefy air cooler if I had the space. Only buying one for my GPU because the AIB Zotac air cooler was absolute crap.

Having built a lot of ghetto and nice watercooled systems in my life, I've gone back to air entirely. Something nice about the reliability of a big hunk of metal as opposed to relying on a pump and water flow and a sealed design that'll ruin your system if something goes wrong.

Unless you have a really sustained CPU workflow you need to keep cool or horrendous airflow, it's not even remotely worth spending too much money on CPU cooling. AIO just look really cool.

      • I've never gone water, but have been tempted once AIO's became so prevalent, but these are exactly the reasons why I never have. My huge noctua HSF does a great job of keeping my gear cool.

Gotta say though, AIO builds look really clean and nice without a huge block of a HSF in the middle of the mobo.

      • EDIT. NVM realised you meant a leak.

      • I'm with you on this one. Watercooling is a hassle and requires maintenance that I simply cba with. Looks cool though.

      • Air is kinda borderline with AMDs 16 core CPUs. It's not that they don't work, just thermally throttle sooner and harder due to thermal constraints.

        • A good air cooler with good case airflow is no worse than most AIOs, it helps to be able to get that heat out quickly. An AIO isn’t just about rad size but how quickly the water is taking that heat to the rad to get rid of it. Since the purpose of most AIOs is silence as well as looks, they’re not always better, especially not at this price point.

Although if you’re dropping $400 on an AIO or have bad airflow then definitely, with that chip, water will improve things.

    • I recently got a dark rock pro 4 and it's fantastic. Silent performance, even under benchmarking and stress testing it's barely audible.

    • I've had the Dark Rock 4 since December and I'm super happy with it. Extremely quiet.
I do prefer the look of big air coolers over AIOs

    Thanks OP, bought one.

  • waiting for z63 to go on sale….

been using it for couple years now, really happy with it. Never see my cpu above 65c under full load

    • How is the pump sound? Wanting to switch to this but looking to keep my system quiet.

      • I can't hear the pump at all.

      • i always leave it on the silent mode in NZXT cam, you literally cant hear it at all

      • I've got the x53 and the pump noise is obnoxious. I've tried to position the radiator in different positions, even with silent mode is on.

  • I love mine. Using it on a 3900x 12 core and I've got no heat issues at all.

    “Nearly pulled the pin”
    Ya mean pulled the trigger?

    • +4

English always was my worst subject :(

    • could be "pulled the pin on a grenade" too

    • -1

      No, his usage was correct.

      • +1

No to "pull the pin" is the opposite to "pull the trigger". One is to end something and one is start something.

Pull the pin only makes sense if the order was put through but then cancelled.

        • -1

He ment pulling the pin on the money in his account

        • -1

They're interchangeable. Pull the pin on a grenade, it explodes. Pull the trigger on a gun, it fires.

          It's the same meaning.

          • @Sxio: Nope. Not at all.

Pull the pin: stops the action
Pull the trigger: starts the action

  • Hi all, asking for help, if had $600 what cpu, mobo and ram would you get for a budget/low mid'ish gaming pc. Thanks

    • +1

$600 for the whole PC or $600 for the CPU, motherboard and RAM?

      • Hi, those 3 components, I have a shitty card that will suffice and new hdd's n power supply.

    • +1

No, this performs good enough for 3900x and below at a much cheaper price

      • The ML coolers have an issue with leakage. Would stay away personally.

        • Thank you all, will have a ganders at that tonight, under budget u see also. Thanks again

          • +1

@Fastjam: Actually I made a mistake. The leak issues I'm referring to were mostly with the V1 version of the cooler he linked. V2 seems to be alright and has great reviews for the price.

I've been using the same AIO for the last 10years without any issue 👍

  • $135 in the checkout

  • Worth the upgrade over x62?

    • Not if you already have one. With X63 you can rotate the nzxt logo on the pump so you can orient it in any way

    • Performance is better on 280mm AIO.

Oh you have old 280mm. then don't buy this. Wait for z63 or go for 360 next time.

      • Cheers, been waiting on the z63 to go on sale.

    • X62 has onboard fan control, X63 does not, but X63 has slightly better infinity mirror effect + rotating bezel. It would be a side-grade at best.

  • I bought a 280mm AIO and struggled to find many cases that support top mounting a 280 radiator. I wanted to do this to keep the pump at the bottom of the loop and to exhaust the hot air rather than warm my GPU.

Lots of cases say they support up to 280mm and 360mm rads but usually only on the front.

I ended up buying a Phanteks P500A which is an awesome (but massive) case to fit it in the top but for a long time I wish I just bought a 240mm or 360mm AIO

    • Ah yes, I just finished building my P500A with X73 360 mounted up top and love it. Previous had the same motherboard and cpu in an old school Define R4 with a Noctua NH- D14. Idle temps are about the same but peak temps have dropped about 6 degrees in the new rig. I must note tho that the temp drops would be a combination of both the x73 and the case as there is much better airflow with the P500A. I just run it in silent mode too.

GPU hotspot temp has dropped about 5 degrees in the P500A too

  • Looks like a pretty solid deal, I'd buy but got the Arctic LF2 420 instead

  • Will I be able to play call of duty warzone on this at 150fps @4k?

    • +1

You'll need an Nvidia Riva TNT 32Mb or better

  • using this for the gtx 1080 ti would be overkill (source had a 120mm AIO on 1080 ti that barely broke 60C under full load - was push pull setup though)

    • I have a 240mm on my 1080Ti using this running push pull with Arctic P12 fans and yet I also get around 60c, which doesn't sound that great comparing to yours. What AIO and case did you have?

      • Corsair H55. Was using arctic P12 fans too. not overclocked in a fractal mestify c mini (which had 2x140mm Arctic P14s in the front)

        • Hmm interesting. Probably the mesh case and the p14s making the difference. I have an obsidian 500d which has restricted intake. Maybe the AIO with my kit is just terrible haha. Oh well thanks.

  • Can't complain about the performance but I found the finishing on these disappointing. On two separate units, the inside surfaces of the radiator weren't powder coated properly and appear grey/white against black everywhere else. Kind of annoying when you have case windows.

I'm using one of these as i've had a couple of various AIO's fail on me (In the sense the pumps get noisy, no leakage) and i figured this one where the pump is actually in the radiator as opposed to being in the block might make for a better experience. So far so good. Just finished actually moving it around to the top of the (new) case. The previous case I was using didn't have enough clearance at the top for the Radiator and i had to front mount it ( which was driving me nuts). Much better now.

  • Awww man. I just bought a used one for $130 too :(
Great little AIO thought. Its so quiet and keeps my 5800x cool as a cucumber.
