Pay in 4 - Buy Now Pay Later Plan with No Interest & No Late Fees @ PayPal

5229

Paypal has joined the growing list of "buy now, pay later" providers in Australia with the launch of Pay in 4.

It's mostly similar to the other providers with the exeption that there are no late fees charged.

By comparison -

  • Afterpay - for each order below $40, a maximum of one $10 late fee may be applied per order. For each order of $40 or above, the total of the late fees that may be applied are capped at 25% of the original order value or $68, whichever is less.
  • Zip Pay - If you don't pay the minimum payment each month (or the remaining balance if less), a late fee of $5 for Zip Pay and $15 for Zip Money will be charged 21 days after your contractual due date.
  • Klarna - If your instalment is late, you will only be charged 1 late fee per late instalment, meaning the most you will be charged is $9, $15, $21 or $45 depending on the value of your order.
  • Latitude Pay - If an automatic payment fails and your payment is still outstanding after 24 hours, you'll be charged a $10 late fee.

20% off site wide ebay pay with PayPal promo when?

    • o0ooo site wide!

    • +4

      Asking the right question there!

    • Like they say in crypto…soon!

  • +23

I'll stick with Afterpay. Paypal has been a nightmare previously

    • +3

Why? Afterpay is the nightmare for most, $10 late fee almost immediately after late payment overdue.

      • +53

        Then pay on time?

        • +17

Why not just pay for what you buy, on time?

        • +12

yea no shit, but i'm saying afterpay got in the shit for overcharging customers on late payment fees.

      • +12

Why? Because most people who negged here probably bought big in shares in Afterpay, Zippay etc :)

        • +3

          Probably lol

        • Wanna bet on that?

    • +9

Agreed pp is bad intl corporation

      • +3

100% I'll never give PP another 1c of my business no matter what they offer. I think they've improved since I had issues with them but not enough and way to slowly imo
I even hate using guest checkout for debit card purchase when I buy things from sites that use them as their processor.

        • +1

My cards are blocked from using them. Not sure why. lol

          • +9

            @Turd: stop buying sex toys

            • @theone4u: Is that illegal?

              • +1

@Turd: If Paypal had their way… yeah probably.
Paypal and anything sex related is a no go.
I think they give in with toys because they don't wanna miss out on that sweet sweet money.

        • +1

They charge like 3% if you are an ebay seller.

    • +1

      What happened?

    • +17

that's dumb. you get protection with PayPal and can return with PayPal paying if there isn't free shipping.
      you get nothing with afterpay.

      • They told me protection was only for "eligible" items. ACL laws no longer apply to them!

    • Agree, broke all promises and sends debt collectors after me for their fault.
Afterpay sounds like Ola, pay every day because tomorow u might be broke!

  • +3

Yes it’s been all over the news.

  • +1

    Max purchase is $1500

  • +14

great to see Paypal scrounging for business after Ebay dumped them.

    horrible company

    • +18

As are eBay, really great mix those two were.

      • true :)

    • +9

Enjoying watching them die, couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of a-holes. What happens when you treat customers like sh1t

      • +1

They don't appear to be dying despite their constant fiddling to hide their high forex takeout from users when checking out. Net income way up and revenue up 20% from 2019 to 2020.

Agree with others this isn't a deal, it's an advertisement for a new financial product.

    • +3

Just another wonder that gimp daddy Elon dumped on the world.

    • Ebay dumped them? They're still listed as a payment option though… 🤔

      • +2

There's no longer any fee from PayPal. The only fees are from eBay themselves now.

    • I wouldn't say dumped them. I mean eBay and PayPal are ultimately still owned by the same company, just not as tightly integrated anymore.

I doubt they're exactly scrounging for business either. PayPal owns a bunch of other financial/payment processing companies, including Braintree who you may never have heard of but does a lot of payment processing for websites and mobile apps (and also owns Venmo that we always hear mentioned in US shows). Avoid Honey too if you don't like PayPal since they acquired them as well.

I still don't see why this is listed as a deal though.

      • Pretty sure PayPal is now separately listed.

        • Spun off as a seperate company, but still gonna be the same people at the top getting paid no doubt.

    • What happened with Ebay and PP?

  • +12

I would've given this a shot but saw they do a credit check may need to wait until finalising the mortgage. Not worth jeopardising credit score and it's not as much as Afterpay which is currently $3,000 available. But suppose PayPal just started.

    • +3

      This is the biggest difference.

I'll stick with Afterpay, nothing is worth paypal pinging your credit score…

    • +3

A credit check doesn’t affect the score negatively if it’s not done many times in a short period.

      • +3

Yeah go ahead when you dont have much credit history and do a couple of credit enquiries in a week.
You'll regret next time you for loan/finances etc.

  • +26

    Not really a deal though

    • +1

Agreed. Saw this myself the other day on PayPal, don't see it as a deal.

  • +34

You really shouldn't be using any of these if you can't pay it back on time.

You are REALLLLY stretching the word bargain for this to be posted here instead of the forums.

    • +1

      Couldn’t agree more.

    • Buy now, pay later = serenity now, insanity later?

Agreed should be in the forums, or on OzPayTheSamePriceInFourParts.com.au

  • -6

Haven't a clue how/why anyone would punch my grandmother or neg dealbot. Too many quality credits in the bank.

    • +8

      neg dealbot

They're not negging dealbot, they're negging the "deal" and I have to agree with them.
This is only good if you're always late to repaying the "buy now, pay later" service at which point you should reevaluate whether you should be using such services

  • +9

    Tough crowd

    • Its a bargaining crowd. The toughest to convince.

  • +3

    Thanks OP.

    How this is a deal?

  • Last I checked PayPal's Pay in 4 must be linked to a debit card, and doesn't work with credit card? No thanks.

    • +2

Yep saw this when it was in the early beta before, no credit card no point, ill stick with AP

    • I have no problem with my 28Degrees card though 🤔

    • mine is linked with my credit card

      • Oh really? I might have another look then… but definitely in the early stages it was debit card only.

    • Mine is linked to credit card

    • +2

To be fair, using a credit card to pay off a debt is a little odd…

      • Just extending the internet free period… plus points/cashback.

Everything's setup to pay itself automatically, but the longer I have to do that the more time my money is in the offset account.

  • Oh, so that’s what Klarna is…

  • +9

Basically just an advertisement for a new payment deal. No bargains provided at all.

  • Long running?

  • If you got the email about this today, you should also send a complaint to ACMA. The email doesn't provide any options for unsubscribing, in addition to my account preferences saying "NO MARKETING BULLSHIT"

    • They can probably get away with this as a 'service update', in which case wouldn't technically be considered spam (unless you weren't a PayPal user).

  • The only reason I would personally use one of these "pay later" services is to get a juicy % off discount like the recent Afterpay sales.

Given that eBay and PayPal have recently divorced I don't see that hapenning any time soon.

  • +4

Based on my bad experience with PP customer support (lots of talk and no resolution), I would stay away from PP wherever possible. You are fine when everything works till it is not and you are pretty much on your own. I'm happy with AfterPay and Zip.

  • No bargains here, waiving a crappy fee … Meh

  • +4

    Credit check no deal

  • OzNews

  • Is this just an announcement? Where's the deal.

  • If Afterpay is Uber, and Zip are Lyft, would this make PayPal shitty Yellow Cabs? I think so

  • $1500 limit, not good

  • +5

Was having a read of the T&Cs

"Missing a repayment could have adverse consequences, including restricting your PayPal account, our taking legal action against you, and/or reporting the default information to a Credit Reporting Body (“CRB”) which may impact your ability to obtain, and the cost of, further credit."

Therefore sure you might not be charged a fee but I would prefer not to have a default against my credit rating. You will pay more for that when the only home loan lender is Pepper Money and Liberty that currently sit at 6.99% instead of 2.49%+ with a traditional lender. So on a 500K loan you end up $16,200 worse off per year… So maybe stick to Afterpay.

    • +5

Yeah, I'd happily take no late fee and pay them back in 2035, but it's not no late fee. You have to pay, on time, or they will come after you, it's so incredibly misleading.

All these services are payday loans wrapped in something shiny.

  • +6

Paypal customer support is horrid, no thanks.

  • +1

    No promo no bnpl

  • +1

Don't pay on time, and they report you to credit agency. At least AfterPay doesn't do that.

  • +2

PayPal’s free returns has helped me out a few times

  • +2

Have made and have had people I know who have made a donation to Wiki Leaks via PayPal and every single one of us has had out accounts suspended by these douchebags.

  • +1

Cool. Better deal than the others. Nothing like competition

  • +4

    Paypal is trash

  • +3

    Not a bargain

  • +3

Can't understand the PayPal hate. They have saved me many times from bad purchases and the reimbursed return postage has been very good too!

  • +4

This is pure advertising. This isn't a deal, I've read this countless times in the news and it's from a company who really don't deserve the business. If the justification for calling it a deal is that you don't get charged for doing the wrong thing, then you probably need to consider your habits.

  • +2

Not a deal. This is advertising?

  • only on $30 to $1500 purchases. that's crap but better then the UK £99.00. i rather it be no minimum. is it a hard credit check that leaves a mark entry on your file or soft one? if there are not any limitations on what you can do the PayPal Pay in 4* on like bills, rates , gift cards etc then it maybe its a useful tool to have? i think ill wait until they offer a big carrot to sign up.

  • paypal is not a bank and a terrible company to deal with. They probably have already done a credit check on most of us like when they forced us to verify our ID on our accounts recently when the new laws came into effect. im sure they will do another credit check for this PayPal Pay in 4.

  • There is no bargain listed. Feels more like a news article / ad?

Also it's impossible to contact them when you need to. No obvious way to contact them by phone, only email

  • +1

    Shit company, not a bargain!

  • +1

    No Thanks.
We may carry out a credit check when you apply – if we do, this will leave a mark on your credit file which may impact your ability to obtain credit in future and/or the cost of that credit.

  • Forum post at best. No bargain listed.
