Looking for a New Microphone for Discord/Zoom

Hoping to get some advice on what Mic I should get. My current one is really quiet, muffled and tends to cut out mid sentence, having me repeat what I say a few times. Its just a typical Gaming headset with a mic attached. (HyperX Cloud Flight for those curious)

Currently looking at the ThroneMax MDrill Dome, Razer Sairen, Blue Yeti Snowball and a few of the Fifine Mics. Happy to take any suggestions in.

I'll mainly be using it for Discord while gaming and Zoom call with Family.
Thanks for the help!

If its cutting out mid sentence, it could be the attenuation threshold in discord.

    • Should I increase or lower it? I have it set to 0%

Nvm then, if its 0%, then its not the setting!

Seen Rode? They have the best rep out there. Would buy over Shure, Beyer, the latest from all the USB disrupters, some of which you list.

    • I just had a look, I am definitely thinking about getting one now! Any in particular you could recommend? The PodMic, NT-USB and mini all seem to be around the same ballpark in price.

I have the Rode NT USB Mini. I'm happy with it, people I asked when I got it said it's loud and clear.

I bought a Rode NT-USB second hand and am very happy with it. There's one currently for $130 in Melb on marketplace that looks like it's in good nick.

Just get the one that is right for the way you want to set it up- which boom, baffle, positioning, etc.

If going for a combined solution, rather than standalone microphone, the Corsair Virtuoso has a professional grade, detachable microphone in a 7.1 wireless/wired headset. I have a big head and big ears and it can be extended to comfortably accommodate.

If you live near a Kmart, you can pick a $2.50 USB microphone that does… surprisingly well. Should tide you over while you wait for a good deal for a professional mic setup

I bought 2 of these and I use it for Google meeting / steam chat.

Do note that it has a omni directional pickup pattern - Omnidirectional microphones are equally sensitive to sound from all directions.

a cardioid microphone is most sensitive to sound coming from the front. Sound from the sides is picked up somewhat quieter, and sound from the rear is greatly rejected. So if you're a streamer and you don't want people listening to you clacking away on a mechanical keyboard you should probably grab a cardiod mic, or, install RTX voice to have machine learning remove the sounds for you.

  • I use this one for music recording on my iphone and found it pretty good:

  • TBH i just use the logi webcam microphone…. so maybe if you need a webcam also, get one with a mic built in?

  • I've got Razer Sairen X over a year ago. I have Zoom calls daily and never had complaints about the sound quality on my side.
