560

Channel Nine's today show is running a 'Frequent Flyer Wednesday' competition, and in conjuction with it you're able to get free frequent flyer membership (not dependant upon participation in their competition.)

I know you can already get free membership via Woolies Everyday Rewards (and some credit cards etc) but this is just another option for those who might not want to do it that way.

It's available until 30 November.

Always free options available - should be in the forums.

This comes up all the time, and there are other well known free ways to get it like the woolies card.

and there are other well known free ways to get it like the woolies card.

I seem to recall having mentioned that. It was posted for those who could use it. As simple as that.

    • tulkn - read voting rules please. As this was already explained your vote is cancelled.

So it is always free, but because they said it is always free somehow still makes this a bargain?
I think you are missing the entire point of your own website here…

        • +8

Its NOT always free. Get your facts straight. You have to join and pay or join via woolies, something others dont always want to do.

And it was declared by the OP something you might have failed to read, so your vote told us NOTHING new.

Did you read the guidelines on negative voting?

          Repeated here

yes it is… you can always get it free if you know how…

The woolies card costs, so if you just want the qff card………..

      • +5

        The woolies card costs

        No it doesn't.

        • +1

My bad, was thinking of credit card. the qantas card gives $1=1qff and is very good value.

  • +2

Its always free over every day rewards…

  • you cant claim jetstar flights on qantas frequent flyer can you?

    • +2

only if you pay full price - "stater" fares don't get it

      • -1

Well thats hardly a bargain! Qantas flights arent bargains hey

        • +1

Qantas have cheap flights too.. you just arent looking hard enough…
get in a week or two ahead, you get on par prices as virgin (if you need luggage) sometimes even cheaper.. ontop of that, you deal with great service..
20 minute check in(usually it says 30 minutes but they are quite lenient if they can get you in they will definitely try.. gotten in at 20 minutes before take off)
          own pick up zone..
          own terminal..
On time majority of the time.. weather doesn't make a massive delay like other budget airlines
delays are less likely compared to others
          gates are closer
no shitty landings or flying (ie. good pilots)

Generally, you are paying for the service… which comes at a fraction of the cost if you can organize it properly.

        • -2

If you don't need to check-in luggage you rock up 5 minutes before the flight (at the gate) and still make it.

    • +3

You can when you add the plus bundle to your starter fare.

      pfft - vote lost…. clown

      • +17

Ozpete, I didn't post this here for votes. As previously mentioned, I posted it solely for those who might actually be able to benefit from it. It's obviously bothering some who have nothing better to do, so perhaps you could move it to the forums for them to find when they need it??

        • +1

and i thank you for that sir =)
i certainly benefited from your post

        • +1

ditto i signed up thanks mate :)
don't think i can apply my previously booked qantas flights onto a new membership..?

        • +3

          @Geewhizz.

its a deal, its ok here. I killed the negative votes because they were not proper according to our guidelines. Its nothing to do with my opinion of the post. Negative votes based on someone dislike of an associate with the deal is really off. If we allow that then everyone who has a dislike of something, like the person who acts in an ad could neg a deal. Or negging it because its not green etc. Its not what neg voting is about. Its not an opinion poll. Its a warning there is something wrong with this deal. High positive votes say its great - low positive votes mean its not. Problem is many dont read the guidelines, its like visiting a friend and not understanding the house rules they operate under. Not a great way to enjoy a friendship

@justin - You should be able to use your FF card. I have booked flights for myself and my wife, I didnt have here FF number at the time and then we had it entered at checkin time. The points were credited. As long as you mean booked, as in not yet flown

        • +1

          I signed up as well

          THANKS.. Geewhizz

        • +1

          thanks for clarifying ozpete

        • +1

Justin - How to claim missing points

Claim missing Qantas Frequent Flyer points for travel on eligible flights on Qantas and some Qantas partner airlines.
Claim must be made within 12 months of travel
Qantas flight claims take up to 3 working days to process
Qantas partner flight claims take up to 14 working days to process
Whether successful or not, all claims will be shown on your online Activity Statement
          No transaction fee
Have your boarding pass or travel documentation handy to enter your flight details, and keep the documentation until your claim has been processed.

      • -1

maybe you should revoke all the COTD negatives then.

        • +1

If people see negative votes that they dont think are correct, they can use the report button. In many cases with COTD the community down votes the negative vote, so it goes away before we have a chance. Also in COTD case they are down on the company itself. In this case the poster was down on Channel 9 not Qantas, so its a negative vote by association which is even more off.

So some things are borderline in some of the COTD situations, here is clearly over the line.

    • was gonna neg this comment but noticed relevant username.

  • thanks, just signed up for me and my missus. added her flight and earn points straight away. perfect timing for this. cheers.

  • +1

signing up through everyday rewards, although also free, is more hassle. i actually like these deals where you simply fill in your details on the qantas website and get the fee waived. much simpler. so a positive for me.

great for signing up kids/grandmas etc who aren't already members.

  • +4

Never really understood why us Aussies had to pay for membership to our (debatable) national airline when it is free for the rest of the world.

    • -5

I agree! why on earth would anyone pay for qantas frequent flyer membership… I don't know any other airline that charges…

      eg Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
      Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
      Virgin Velocity
      BMI Diamond Club
      ANA
      JAL
      Air Berlin
      Emirates
      Air France/KLM Flying Blue
      Air China Phoenix Miles
      Asiana Club
      Korean Air

All Free! Some of them will even post you a membership card without taking a flight.

Also Qantas has one of the worst miles burn rates out there…

      • +1

Whether other airlines are free or not is irregardless. This is a deal because you can sign up for Qantas FF for free. Don't neg the deal because you believe Qantas FF should be free.

        • +6

          "irregardless"

          That's an… interesting word.

      • Agree with 83% profit drop, Qantas have to pay people to fly!

        • -1

'Irregardless is an informal term commonly used in place of regardless or irrespective.'

  • fantastic !

just joined for the mrs.. i joined last yr and had to pay the full fee as the credit card i had didn't offer it for free… !!!

    Thanks for sharing

  • -7

Rubbish deal. Others have already stated why.

  • Cathay Pacific charges $50 USD for the marco polo club joining fee.

  • Apart from using it when booking Qantas flights, what other ways are there to accrue points?

    • if you shop at Woolies a lot, get an everyday rewards card. I think for every dollar over $30 you get 1 QFF point per dollar. You get points for shopping at other affiliated stores too and I would list them but I've already thrown my brochure into the recycle bin :S

      • Woah! No way! I need to get a rewards card!

      • I remember when woolies brought out those fuel cards and stopped printing fuel vouchers at the bottom of the docket, but eventually went back to ALSO printing them.
I used one of their fuel cards until the vouchers came back on the dockets, but got rid of it as soon as I could. The issue I had with the card was the fact that they are almost definitely building up huge databases of our personal details combined with every single item we've ever bought at the same time as scanning one of their cards.

How do you fellow ozbargainers feel about them getting such comprehensive information about us?

        • I dont touch them for this very reason.

The amount of data they now have on you is absolutely absurd.

        • imagine data mining through that!! can you hear the nerds go w00t?!? imagine what it could be worth, not just to woolies, but for their suppliers or advertisers!

i realise they collect the data, but am pretty much oblivious to the long term consequences i.e. how it might affect pricing/timing of catalogue sales/what stock they sell etc.

        • They have significant control because they know what items get bought at what price on which days of the week.

They know which prices to increase in the long term, which days to not offer sales, and so on.

By using the cards, long term, I guarantee we will all be paying more.

Note that they still collect a lot of this information on you without the card. But what they can't do without a card (whether it be the rewards card or your bank/credit card.. anything but cash) is tie transactions on different receipts to one person. Using any form of card gives them cohesion in their data.

        • +1

Of course they're using it collect data - it's totally free market research for them. For that reason, I don't bother having my card swiped when I haven't spent enough to get points.

What I have discovered though is that there seems to be some corelation between what you buy and the bonus point offers they make. My daughter is a big buyer of coke - she regularly gets bonus offers for coke (sometimes 300 points for spending $10 on coke,) but I've never gotten one.

          So it's a trade-off I guess.

        • I really couldn't care less. They could just as easily ask me to fill out a survey and I'd happily oblige. What secrets are they going to uncover? That I'm addicted to Ice Coffee and because I'm cheap I'll buy whatever brand is on special? That's some detailed info there.

    • There are several partner credit cards, and also the Woolworths rewards card.

      • Including the Qantas Amex card, which has no annual fee.

    • Optus is currently offering 6 FF points per dollar, although I believe this is a short term promotion and it will soon be dropping back to one or two.

If you do happen to have it linked to a Woolworths Everyday Rewards card there are usually bonus points offers in your inbox, once or twice a week, also.

  • Anyone know if Qantas flights already purchased can have the FF added on after sale?
I bought Qantas tickets for my grandmother last week and would want to join her and link her Everyday rewards.

    TIA

    • +3

Yep, you can access the flight details through the Qantas website (www.qantas.com.au). Enter the reference number in the box on the right hand side of the page. I'm certain you can update the FF number once you access the flight details. You don't actually accrue the points until you fly.

EDIT: See the box on the right 'Manage your booking'. Enter flight reference number and look for an 'Update your details' button.

      • Thank you superklue. Grandma will be pleased!

    • yes, see above - from scottr

  • +1

It's free, but funnily this program is the one of the most profitable part of qantas, more so than flying, so they certainly make mooney somehow from this

    • From affiliations I'd say. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing Woolies pays them a fee, as do the credit cards and others who offer frequent flier points. Otherwise, what's in it for Qantas, with the supermarket basically giving away discounts on their flights?

      • u reckon woolies would pay qantas? i'd dare say the other way around, i certainly have my opinion on which needs the other more, and woolies certainly doesnt need to attract flyers to buy bread from their stores.

  • +1

The $82.50 application fee applies to us lucky Aussies or New Zealanders. It's always free for overseas applicants. Or free if you use an overseas address. They don't send you anything useful anyway, as all communications are done electronically.

  • +2

I got this free when i joined woolworths membership.

  • I am having troubles accessing the link in the original post image. It shows a blank page with no hint of loading. Is anyone else experiencing this?

  • -1

this is a promo from qantas to increase their profit.
but actually some people here will just register and not use it (jetstar airasia cheaper). so we actually make qantas losing more money (for sending cards)
