Why Is The RTX 3060 Selling for $999 When The RRP Is $529?

The RTX 3060 was supposed to have a RRP $529 in Australia, what the hell happened, and what is still happening?

In this old Kotaku article, Author was complaining about the price being $200 over MSRP at $719

https://www.kotaku.com.au/2021/03/how-much-youll-actually-pa…

looking at prices on static ice the cheapest 3060 (in stock) is listed for $999 -

RRP of $529 selling for $999…lmao wut? I thought prices were coming down?

I have a 3070 that I have hardly even used. Turned it on like 3 times since January.

I'll give you $150 - sounds like you wont miss it.

Something similar to housing - everyone is waiting "for the prices to go down", which, ironically, shows massive demand for it, which in turn, keeps the prices really high… because there is a massive demand for them.

I think we would be better off just waiting for the 4000 series and see what that brings in pricing.

So you're saying give up on current houses and wait for a cloud city to be built? Makes sense.

      • Not a cloud city yet but since the 2000 series houses are crazy, I think we would be better off just waiting for the next 3000 series houses and see what that brings in pricing.

    Silicon shortage.

  • Some places (Like GamersNexus) are reporting that companies are being forced to buy 5 motherboards or 10 cases or 10 monitors just to get 1 graphics card. In order to break even they need to make a large profit on the graphics card because they will most likely lose money on the cases or monitors. I have been noticing great sales on random products recently. Got a new monitor and a new keyboard at a great price. *I asked the guy at Scorptec and he confirmed that happens in Aus, but was not able to provide details.

That would go some ways to explain why buying an entire system is at the moment often far better value than just buying the card. Eg - Card alone for $1500, vs system with same card for $1800.

  • recommended retail price!

    "recommended"

  • Why Is The RTX 3060 Selling for $999 When The RRP Is $529?

Reason Part A - The global integrated circuit shortage impacting supply
Reason Part B - Insatiable global demand for these integrated circuits (manufacturers) and the assembled products containing them (consumers)
Reason Part C - Section 48 of Australian Competition and Consumer Act 2010

and, until recently, miners buy up stock

Welcome to capitalism 101. Today we are going to be discussing "Supply and Demand…"

  • it is a supply/demand issue when mining was going.
not price is on its way back to RRP.
There seems some clue that the 3060 with LHR should go back to ~$600 range in the next 4 weeks, if no Suprise from the crypto mining market.
Hold your money and watch for another month.
