no DRAM cache on the NV1, it's a downgrade from the A2000

  • Kingston or crucial P2?

    • +1

Crucial P1 if it's an option. NV1 and P2 are both DRAMless.

      • Thanks! Will buy Crucial P1. I agree DRAM is important.

I think WD SN550 is the better budget drive, much higher tbw

Even if the 15gb write cache is exhausted you still get a respectable speed as opposed to the P1 which tanks

Of course if it's in the same price range go for it. If you want to spend more the Samsung 980 is a good option for DRAMless as it has a large amount of SLC cache and goes to SATA SSD speeds when exhausted.

      • Hi Clear, what are the advantages of DRAM? Does it help for gaming load time?
P1 almost has half endurance (TBW) than P2- any comment on this?

          • @Clear: It says dram is more durable but P1 tbw is 200 and p2 is 450. So I'm confused.

            • @Oauiii: TBW has no impact on speed. Rather it refers to the endurance, or lifetime of the SSD until failure is expected so it depends on the quality of the NAND flash they're using.

An SSD with DRAM will perform much faster than an SSD as it benefits the random and sequential write speeds. While a DRAMless SSD does not and often has slower SLC cache that once exhausted (temporarily) it'll slow the drive down.

Now for actual performance? Gaming you likely won't notice a difference. General system responsiveness? Yes it's possible you may find it to be less smooth without DRAM. Large file transfers? DRAMless SSDs will slow down to a snail's pace when their SLC cache is exhausted. SLC cache can be anywhere from a couple of GB to a few hundred.

              • @Clear: Thanks agaiN

@Oauiii: I use both the WD Blue SN550 (DRAM) and Samsung 980 (DRAMless) and for gaming I notice no difference.

                  • @Clear: mmmm I thought the WD BLUE SN550 is also DRAMless?

                    • @Jhonka: Oh yeah you're right I was thinking of something else. It has a small amount of SLC cache though.

    • I am considering Crucial P2.

      Kingston 2100 vs Crucial 2300

  • Any idea of the expiry date?

  • Ryzen 5900x for $765.30
    Threadripper 3970x for $2,529.30

    Wow…

  • Please fix the price for the Thinkpad L14,
It shows $1,076.40 when it added to cart.
I would like to buy it when it fixed.
    Thank you.

    • Yes, that is correct. The normal price is $1196 so 10% off is $1076.40

      • It was $1043? around before from the deal description and now he changed the price.

  • I notice this deal is marked as expiring today but the Shopping Express website says it expires tomorrow night.
