Picked this up in the previous deal. Brilliant game and hours of fun with this one.

Got this game a while back. Doesn't have the same magic as the previous two Paper Mario installments.

  • Heard mixed things but I'll give it a go for this price.

  • Thanks

I liked but didn't love the game. Completed the storey and had a good time ultimately, so at this price is worth it I would say.

  • Such a fun game……except for the combat - just avoid bumping into any enemies!!

$80 on Nintendo eShop. I prefer the convenience of not using cartridges, but hard to justify paying double.

This is a very weird pricing strategy by Nintendo - they are happy to have a physical copy sold for $40 where Amazon gets a portion of that and make a profit on top of the Prime delivery costs, there are manufacturing costs for the physical medium, shipping costs involved, they also need to recoup the original development cost. Whereas with a digital download it's almost all pure profit straight into Nintendo's + original developer's pockets, but I am disincentived to use eShop because I'd have to pay double.

Not to mention with the physical copy you can still sell it again one day…

We really don’t know what, if any, profit Amazon is making on this title or whether they are taking the hit to not allow Catch (who they are price matching) to get a foot up or to have users consider dropping their subscription to Prime and going to Catch.

Amazon’s clearly taken an approach in our market that it’ll typically price match the lowest retailer when it comes to video games. It’s entirely possible that extends so far as taking a loss or minimal profit on some games.

Amazon’s well known to play the long game to win market share from competitors, so they might be thinking long term in terms of market share.

I doubt Nintendo is involved at all in the pricing being set at $40. If they were selling the software bellow $40 I’d expect more retailers to have Nintendo titles in that $40-$50 bracket.

this is why I rather get it from local retailers if Amazon is only cheaper by a dollar.

      • Manufacturers, distributors, and publishers are usually very involved in setting the pricing with the retailers. They usually set pricing guidelines and retailers are often not allowed to sell below a certain minimum. Don't know for sure if that exists between Amazon and Nintendo, but not unlikely.

Edit: interesting, actually in Australia ACCC prohibits suppliers from imposing minimum prices in retailers, except to prevent loss leader selling

  • Thanks OP. Was unsure based off reviews but couldn't resist at this price.
