Beard Oil to Soften The Beard; Looking for OzBargainer's Experience and Recommendations

I have a bit of a moustache, very short bit of beard (between a 3 and a 6 on the beard trimmer) and some some stubble.
I'd like to soften it so I don't stab the girlfriend with it.

Any recommendations on beard oil and tips for selection and usage?

Jojoba oil, is good for hair and skin, and is non oily. Also use dermaveen extra gentle shower and bath oil as a cleanser leave on for a few minutes, its very softening

I look out for when Aldi has the grooming packs on sale. Oil, Comb, Shampoo and a Balm. I quite like the smell of it and it's cheap for the whole pack. I don't use the shampoo though. You can Also try the Proraso or Milkman King of Wood if you like those woody scents. I usually buy from Milkman Grooming or Beard and Blade.

grow your beard out a little bit, thatll soften it up for the missus. Its the short length thats the problem, you dont need any poncey beardy stuff.

    • Lol, beard oil. I've heard it all now. How did Grizzly Adams survive without it.

      • Griz just took a 400mi trip each season to edge of the nearest town, where he was able to find a few quarts of oil out back of the gas station just laying around. Or if he had a few episodes coming up maybe he'd goto the fried chicken shop and swap some fresh veg oil for a few deer steaks.

        • I guess G-man also wasn't kissing to many babes out in the woods.

Beard oil is more to keep the skin underneath your beard moisturised and to help with detangling the hair in a longer beard.

A conditioning balm is the best thing to soften the hair, and as someone already mentioned, letring it grow out a bit will help. Stubble is always going to feel scratchy.

Sukin beard oil is good- reasonably priced, widely available and often on sale. It's unscented too.

Reuzel make some of the best beard balms I've found but they're not very OzB friendly. Bulldog conditioning balm is available in coles and works well for keeping your beard soft. It's quite a soft balm too so it won't help a lot in styling but if you keep your beard short that's not too much of a concern.

Macadamia, argan and almond oils are all good ingredients to look out for as they moisturise well and don't smell strong or feel overly greasy.

Beeswax is a good ingredient in styling products if you want more shape and hold, less so if you just want it to soften and condition.

Just buy jojoba oil. It's at least 5 times cheaper per ml than overpriced beard oil and it's not full of perfumes that are detrimental to moisturising your skin and hair.
It's non-greasy, works a treat and will last you months.

  • Thank you everyone :)
