What else do i need if i buy this?
Memory card, and if you want, a hardwire kit (otherwise it just plugs into the cigarette socket/USB)
Or obd cable.
@Richardc: Each vehicle has a standard 16-pin connector, as described on our OBD presentation page. The norm states that the port must be located inside the vehicle passenger compartment. Depending on the make and model, it may or may not be easy to locate.
- High Endurance microSD card
- Hardware Kit is better, because the wiring is tucked away but it costs more money or time, to do this.
( This was "necessary" when you needed to turn on the 'Parking feature' of the dashcam,
where the dashcam can record any bumps/jerks to your car, while your car is parked somewhere.
This has had problems, so Viofo turned this feature off through firmware updates ) - Polarising filter (for the low Australian summer) during summer time
I would still suggest getting the Viofo 4K version because the lens is sharper & can capture registration plates.
It's not necessary, because Viofo 129 Plus is the 2K version but price difference with 4K is "not much".Parking mode still works. Only buffered mode has been disabled in the plus
@DoesntEvenMatter: thanks for clarifying that.
i will have to revisit that option
( and also upgrade the latest firmware )
Amazon has similar price delivered, end very soon though. https://www.amazon.com.au/VIOFO-2-Channel-1080p-Camera-Logge…
It is $194
delivery on this one is ~$15 so its about $10 cheaper than amazon (though many would prefer amazon for shipping time and customer service, plus discounted gift cards)
also if you spend a little extra you can get the 2k dashcam version of it roughly $30 more for double resolution
is the 'plus' version worth spending the extra ~$40-50 on?
yes
A129 Plus is definitely worth it,
but the question you should ask is, whether 4K version is better or not,
because 4K version takes sharper image of the registration plates around you.
Is the rear camera means reverse camera or cabin camera?
It's cabin, have one installed in my Civic. You'll install it on the rear screen, cabling through the interior carpet or door linings.
Thanks
Neither, it's to record someone rear ending you because they're distracted eg on their phone etc
Correct. Just to add, if you want a cabin camera, you would want the IR version for night time capture. Useful for uber.
Reversing camera. You can also set the display to show PIP or just the rear camera if you want
Love getting downvoted for being right. A cabin camera is one which records inside the cabin, like in a taxi. The rear camera in this bundle is to face backwards outside your vehicle, absolutely not a cabin camera
Yes, but reversing != rear
@John Kimble: Yes, but the OP that Amr911 made is clearly asking about whether the camera faces outside of the car, or inside. One camera points in front of your car, and one camera points behind your car, and neither camera points into the cabin, so, in the absence of any other clarification, their question is extremely obvious to anyone with comprehension skills.
Is this include parking mode?
Buffered parking mode in this one has been disabled in the latest firmware. It still works in the Pro model, not sure about Plus.
Yes, and it works excellently with the optional hard wiring kit.
I don't own a dashcam, but I am looking to buy one when there is a good deal. Based on my research it would be worth paying more for the Plus version.
I think this is good enough. Main difference is 4K on the front camera. It has been around $140 previously from banggood.
Keep in mind the ability to see number plates isn't too amazing but may be better with the 4k.
Some other manufacturers, like blackvue, use gps to warn of fixed red light speed cameras.
The plus is 2k. Its the pro that's 4k
I agree with you. Bought the plus from past Amazon prime day sales. Still sitting in the box. Will get around to it soon.
Beat place to get these installed?
DIY is easy, plug into socket, then just cable through the carpet and then A pillar. If you're lazy, you can get away with putting it in the rubber door linings.
I've thought about trying that but I'm sure I would wreck something
Very difficult to if you follow basic video guides online. The trimming tool is provided in the box. Just be mindful of the location of your vehicles side airbags. Takes about 30-45 minutes depending on your vehicle.
The wires need to be tucked away UNDERNEATH the airbags,
so that airbags do not have any obstacles in the way. Most dashcam installs are about $200+ and the installer comes to you.
I used Bendas Installations.
Polite, professonal & clean installation.
( You would need the hardware kit )
From a previous thread, this review was useful.
Pro it is!
Can I use my cigarette lighter at rear to power up the rear camera rather than running a cable from front?
Or does the rear camera need to be connected to main cam at front to work?Main
Thanks
Is this better than A119 v3? footage seems better from A119
A119 definitely looks better (plate clarity). This one does come with the rear camera for the price, though.
Is it same that was ~$144? - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/617301
Will a 128gb size micro SD be used with this?
Yes
Spec says up to 256GB.
Thanks!
Tempting to buy one, but still waiting for my vezo 360 from kickstarter.. :(
They're only two years late, don't rush them.
This or the 70mai pro plus with rear camera?
Does anyone know the answer to this? I've got an A119 installed in my car currently with a hardwire kit. I'd like to have a rear camera and so I'll need a dual channel camera like this A129. Do you know if the hardwire kit and mounting bracket is the same for both cameras? Just trying to figure out if this is simply a rear camera install or a fully ripout and replace.. Cheers
Does your A119 have a port to plug a rear camera in?
Edit: Seems A119 does not support rear camera, you'll have to get a new unit that supports it like the A129 DuoIf I were you I would just get another A119 and use current one as a rear cam. though not sure about these models, but I've seen people doing that.
Power is the same but the bracket is likely different. Just pull it off and stick a new one from the A129 duo on. I had to remove the bracket (with GPS) recently due to having to change the windscreen.
Get another A119 for the rear camera instead.
You get 60fps with the single camera of A119, compared to 30fps for dual camera mode of the A129.
The side mounted mini USB power input is dumb
Code applies to the 119v3 as well. Comes down to $125.06
I have got both A129 Duo and A129 Plus Duo. I have found few differences between these two which I will highlight here.
1. A129 Duo is 1080p whereas A129 Plus is 2K. In real life very slight difference in quality though.
2. Rear camera quality of both of these is same.
3. I was running firmware V2.1 in A129 Duo and currently running V1.5 in A129 Plus which came loaded. With Duo, I used to get frequent interruption on recording. Sometimes it used to stop automatically while driving, most of the time it refused to change to parking mode from drive mode and vice versa had to turnoff and turn on the camera to work again. Been using Plus for more than a month, never experienced the same. P.S I am using the same card Samsung Endurance Pro 128 GB in both camera.
4.Someone smashed my car's right side mirror while being parked but the parking mode failed to save and lock the file (G sensor was on high setting, motion detection was on medium). Haven't had such incident till now after installing A129 Plus, hope it never happens.
5. Buffered Parking Mode in A129 Plus is flawless, was always hit and miss with A129 Duo.
6. A129 Plus feels a bit faster and snappier than A129 Duo, WiFi Connection is also quick and stable.
7. High Sun glare on the front recording can be the issue with both model which can make the video unwatchable. Dashmat or CPL filter solves the issue. I am using CPL filter it definitely reduces the glare by almost 80% but affects the quality of night recording noticeably. At times the number plate can't be visible on the recording.
8. As I fitted these in sedan the rear recording is quite darker due to the tint on the rear windscreen. Not to mention the sun glare makes the video worse and using CPL filter makes video more darker. Also care should be taken while installing rear camera as rear windscreen defroster line can present in the video of not aligned properly. Best way to do is turning on the WiFi and checking the video on phone while installing.I am more happy with the A129 Plus than with A129.Hope my experience will help someone with their purchasing decision.
Buffered parking mode on the plus was removed because it was flaky. You sure you didn't get thr units mixed up. It's only available on the duo and pro now
You are right. Mixed up Auto Event Detection with Buffered Parking Mode. Yes, it doesn't record the previous 15 sec of video after the event is detected. In A129 Duo the auto event detection was hit and miss, A129 Plus is a bit better. But no point of detecting the event if it cannot buffer so I am using low bit rate recording. Thanks for the correction.
Excellent dashcam. Blows my mind when I see people paying $800 for almost the same thing
