Sony XR65X90J 65" X90J 4K Bravia XR Google TV $2,120.75 + Delivery or C&C @ The Good Guys eBay

620
TGG15OFF

The Sony X90J is the Sony X900H's successor. They're very similar overall, but there are a few differences. Although both TVs use a VA panel, the X90J has a higher contrast ratio, which means it can display deeper blacks. Its color gamut isn't as good as the X900H's, but it gets significantly brighter in HDR to make highlights pop, and its brightness is more consistent due to a less aggressive Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL).

Sony is now price matching the Costco deal, which means you can get the X90J with free delivery and a bonus remote for $1978.99.Cashrewards had 6% cash back the other day, but that appears to have gone down to 2% - still much better than this deal though.

    • Did you go direct through Sony for the Costco price match? Thanks

      • +2

Just got my price match approved. Simply go to Sony website and select price match request. I used Costco price on 03/07 and got approved after 2 hours.

        • With the screenshot of the Costco price?

          • +5

@orbital: They didn't ask for it. Only need to enter the retailer, price and date.

            • @tyspower: Did you get the price match with the price in the Costco screen shot, which is lower than the Costco website price?

              • @Buy2Much: Yes $1978.99.

                • @tyspower: I tried but they kept telling to send a link of the Costco online store price so they can verify… guess not my luck. Did you send them the link to the OB post or the Costco store URL?

                  • @Buy2Much: They didn't ask for anything. Might be too many price match recently?

    • yes! I got the costco price match thanks!
but still hoping to get more cashback offers…currently only 2%
How long does this price match offer stands?

      • Cashrewards is back to 6%

        • yeah i just got it done today 6%!!! But i cannot see it been tracked yet only click history! I hope i wont get rejected with the cashback!

          Thanks again for your help

          • @s4098980: Did it track?

            • @Gadar: I cant see it yet… it says 7 days before i can dispute it… its in my click history.

    • They wouldn't match it for me

      :(

Do you guys do any special sorts of pro haggling, or just get lucky?

Would like to upgrade for PS5 and xbox series x. Should i go with x90j 75inch or X9000h?
Would color gamut difference be noticable, especially for hdr 4k gaming?
X9000h may be cheaper but saw some review saying the chip isn't great and used for both Android and image process ing, while x90j uses dedicated xr chip for image which could resolved some Motion flow issues on X9000h.
Anyone has a X9000h can comments experience with next gen console and online streaming?
Should i wait for next year model if both are average?
Don't want oled or samsung(menu ad issue)

    • +1

Have owned my LG CX 65 for 2 years now, there are definitely no ads on the menu. On initial setup as long as you opt out of ACR you're all sweet. Screen retention isn't an issue either if that's something else that puts you off from OLED.

      • samsung is the one having menu ad issue.
i don't want OLED because i don't want to spend 6k on LG C1 75 and screen burn in issue.
I do often leave TV on static image as young kids draw my more attention.
OLED do have better colour but don't justity twice expensive than sony x90j for gaming.

        • +3

That's understandable, I had the same doubt before I bought mine and didn't do enough research on it. But let me assure you, the newer models CX/GX/E series have improved panels as opposed to the older models where they didn't have any image retention technology.
When you leave your TV for 2 minutes the screensaver turns on to prevent image retention/burn in. Also when you turn off your TV, provided that you don't turn it off from the wall switch, it automatically turns on pixel refresher after 4 hours of viewing. It refreshes the screen every time it's off if you've watched for 4 hours. I'm a heavy gamer and game for minimum 5 hours every day, watch plenty of movies with black bars, have brightness turned up to the max, and it still hasn't affected the panel. I've even read stories where people have had older models panels replaced out of warranty. Don't worry too much about it. More info https://www.lg.com/eg_en/tvs/oled-tvs/oled-reliability

Hard to believe modern TVs so expensive could really have burn in unless in the most extreme circumstances. I’m sure they have some sort of screensaver or auto-off to prevent it. It’s just in their best interest and hard to believe they wouldn’t. But hey, if that’s really the case, that is amazing that still happens today.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: After about 120 seconds of a show being paused it turns the screen onto a power saver mode where it’s black with fireworks animations to prevent burn-in. If you were to leave it on live tv with a ticker reel at the bottom such as ABC 24 all day every day you’d eventually have a problem most likely, but like you say it has a lot of digital nannies to prevent you breaking your toy

While Samsung have the menu ads which is a little annoying, they also have VRR and FreeSync. I bought the 70" Q70T over the X900H last year and couldn't be happier! I really wanted the X900H as my other TVs are all Sony and Android, but the Samsung won me over.

      • +3

Got the Q80T and while the picture is good, the banding and DSE is bad. Had 3 repairs (new screens) and each had their issues. Wouldn't recommend Samsung at all and will never buy another one.

Don't get x9000h if you are getting for ps5. I am in the process of returning mine to Sony for the x90j via fair trading.

Main issues are I like to turn the TV on by powering on the console and about 90% of the time this will require finding the TV remote to force reboot the TV to get the sound working and at 4k 120hz there is a noticable drop in image quality. Not sure if x90j has fixed these issues but if I got a refund I would have switched to LG or Samsung.

      • thanks for the sharing.
It's great info, so closed to put trigger on X9000h during last 85 inch deal

        • How much did you pay for the 85x9000H ??

          • @Spending2Much: i didn't buy at last, it was around $3900 from Sony ebay, box damaged, but TV itself is brand new from other users report.

      • No chance of a refund with them?

      • How easy is the process may I ask to have Sony replace the TV with the latest model?

I've I my owned mine for a month or so but have concerns with the 120hz factor too as the 90H is supposed to be receiving an update?

        • +1

So far it's been a pain in the ass. Sony would keep stalling so I pursued with fair trading NSW asking for a refund. Sony said no refund and offered x90j instead. Not sure if I could have pushed for the refund but figured a bird in the hand is worth more than trying to get any response from Sony.

          • @kamelataturd: Hi @kamelataturd, I've been fighting with Sont for the last 4 months for exactly the same issue with the X90H, had 2 technician repairs, a full panel swap and eventually SONY refused to refund the TV, and instead forced me to jump through the hoops and troubleshoot with the PS5 which will have to be sent for replacement before I can get back to SONY to troubleshoot the TV further. Extremely frustrating process for a TV that was literally advertised and sold as a "perfect match for the PS5"!!!!

Did you have to log a case with Fair Trading in the end? How is that going?

            • @Matej Pribelsky: Took about 3 weeks with fair trading to get Sony to say they will replace it (but will have to see how long the actual exchange takes). I purchased from sonyaustralia on ebay. When fair trading contacted Sony they said they weren't affiliated with the seller and I need to go through ebay. Lodged it via the ebay store (who had the same return address as Sony Australia Ltd). After an initial reply from the ebay store saying their engineers will be in contact and a week of waiting I went back to fair trading who then got Sony to reply. Sony's customer service is shit and I would not butly from them again unless I absolutely had to.

          • @kamelataturd: They wouldn't give me a trade instead offered a refund. They said I needed to pay $800 or so to "upgrade" to the X90J

      • I just realised the term VRR was what I had meant to mention with the previous message.

Was or is this something that has yet to come for the 90H and perhaps a fair point as to why one could get Sony to upgrade to the latest model?

        I don't own a PS5 yet so I haven't personally experienced any issues with 120hz.

    • I picked up this TV last week and installed over the weekend. After adjustment, gaming on PS5 looks great; however, 120hz option seems to be a waste of time (colours are washed out and image is blurry).

      • Did you pick up x90j or X9000h?
Assuming you upgraded it to latest firmware?
120hz is really the selling point..

        • X90J. Honestly, don’t bother with 120hz. Alternatively, go to your local and ask for a demo. I think it is one of those features that were implemented for the new consoles, but in reality provide no tangible improvement

          • +1

@TurboDjango: thanks a lot. 120hz is a big reason for me to upgrade from my current 4k 60hz TV. very disappointed even x90j couldn't handle 120hz, I thought sony has improved it over new XR chip to deliver true 120hz.

      • I wonder if this is the fault of the display, or the PS5?

I haven't really looked into it but i assume 4k is off the table if you want to play at anything approaching 120hz, so you are trading resolution for frame rate.

High frame rate seems like kind wishful thinking on this gen of consoles except for e-sports type titles e.g. Rocket League.

      • I wanted to buy this model X90J for the PS5, if this doesn't really performing well in the 120hz, do you recommend any other model?
        Thank you.

  • If a TV is bought directly from Sony, it comes with 3 years warranty, saving money for extended warranty.

    • +1

It doesn't matter as accc covers you more years, probably 5 years, cannot recall exactly.

      • How exactly? 🤔

        • +4

          From the ACCC guide

A consumer buys a top-of-the-range plasma television for $1800. It stops working two years later. The supplier tells the consumer they have no rights to repairs or another remedy as the television was only under the manufacturer's warranty for 12 months. The supplier says the consumer should have bought an extended warranty, which would have given five years' cover.

A reasonable consumer would expect to get more than two years' use from a $1800 television. Under the consumer guarantees, the consumer therefore has a statutory right to a remedy on the basis that the television is not of acceptable quality. The supplier must provide a remedy free of charge.

          • @koalafied: Reasonable use of a product. Depends on size of tv. There was a Panasonic tribunal case.

    • Re the 3 year warranty, where does it state that? Sony’s website states that TV has a 1-year warranty?

      • It's a default warranty from Sony but they don't advertise it. Speak to any of their physical stores and they'll confirm it. I've it in writing in an email from a Sony store.

    Sony XR55A80J 55" A80J 4K Bravia XR OLED - $2580.75 delivered.

  • I watched review said that the XR chip is very good.

    • Certainly better than last years X9000H, at least this years one has the processing power to do ARR in full resolution.

  • How well does it upscale 1080p movies? I don't think games can be upscaled by the TV alone, right?

    • If you buy this TV, should really get a ps4 pro/xbox one x at least for 4k experience until ps5/xsx availability improves.
Any game upscaling is not really 4k, unless using DLSS such technology.

    • The upscaling works well on the x9000h (Last years model) for both games and movies.
The "Reality Creation" feature uses real-time AI to process the image and "improve" the detail and sharpness.
The detail isn't true to originally intended but if you switch this setting off and on, you can notice a huge improvement.

  • Super tempted! Anyone has the Sony X90J with PS5/Xbox Series X setup and can comment on the performance and any issues if present?

  • -3

Sony X90J is the Sony X900H's successor.

given how much of a dud the X900H is, the Aldi one is a decent successor to it.

  • Do we know if this tv supports VRR? In the reviews it mentions that it's not supported. Not sure if they have released the firmware which unlocks VRR.

    • +1

Not supported yet, sony promised it would be available via firmware update, like what they said to X9000h. Bit risk as no review for its performance and vrr is important for gaming. Guess it should likely be ok as new XR chip which is supposed to be sufficient for additional vrr computing power.

    • If this is SUPER important to you enjoying this TV, I wouldn't buy it yet.

Promised updates are just that.. promises.

65Q8 is much better than this

    • +1

The 65q8 is balls compared to this. That being said, this was $100 cheaper a week ago direct from Sony ebay.

      • -1

65Q8 has got more dimming zones, my hisense friends told me everything, more than dimming zones buddy.

  • will it ever come in 85"?

    • Only 50/55/65/75 announced.

Gotta go to X95J for 85".. I have no idea if that is coming out here or not though.
