2kg of Bay Beans Fair Trade coffee beans, including Free Delivery anywhere in Australia.

Pay $49.00 (Free Delivery)

You would reasonably expect to pay at least $10 for courier delivery on a order like this from any merchant, so the coffee is costing you less than $20 per KG. As with all my coffee, its roasted fresh on demand.

  • Hi, any good deals for decaf beans?

    • +5

Send me an email in March to remind me to put together a deal for Decaf and I will.

      • ok thanks, will do!

  • +2

It's in the expiry meta tag sort of section, but perhaps add the Expiry to the body of the post too James.

    • done. thanks.

  • good timing… ran out of beans :D

    • Free courier delivery, so you won't be waiting long.

  • Nice work Jim

    • Good to see you around here again.. let me buy you a coffee <follow me>.

  • "Expires 2012-03-15"
Good stuff, just about when i need to share 2 kgs with a mate.
Good to see you back Jimbo

    • Its good to be back - thanks.

  • I've used baybeans before, very good service and good coffee so +1 from me. Only minor complaint is the unsolicited emails about politics.

    • +3

I really need to get my funny bone checked. Is it this newsletter?
      http://www.baybeans.com.au/1/post/2011/07/will-the-carbon-ta…

Thats me trying to make a popular topic at the time relevent, but I probably shouldn't have tried to be clever. Probably should have had that article at the bottom of the newsletter.

Thanks for the +ve vote, I appreciate it.

      • On second read I can see your point, but I'll say you are much better at coffee than political satire.

As mentioned below, it would be greatly appreciated if you got a payment method other than paypal.

I have a quick horror story, paypal refused to escalate a dispute I had with an american vendor from whom I never received goods, I then issued a chargeback through my credit card company, and then paypal took the funds I charged back against them from a completely different, australian seller (Geronimo Jerky), once we both contacted them regarding the mistake, they refused to give them the money back or issue an apology. Just to be clear, my transaction with Geronimo was not under dispute, or even for the same amount of money, they just saw the last transaction on my paypal account and then put the charge back against them. So for no reason, geronimo jerky was out of pocket 80 dollars.

EDIT: Also, that's the only thing stopping me from buying this deal, because I now like the other user, refuse to deal though paypal on principle.

        • thats horrible. typical of a faceless organisation. I am in talks with a merchant providor for direct payments, so stay tuned. Thanks.

        • Or google Checkout ?

Good enough to put me off. Thanks for the warning.

    • +4

whoa - its not like you think. I am just one guy trying to be clever with one parragraph in one of my regular newsletters.

Take a look at the newsletter from 6 months ago yourself if you are curious.

Hmm, I just looked at the 'offending' material GW & it's pretty darn innocuous.

I hope you don't listen to How Green Was My Cactus in the mornings, that's far more political! :)

  • So James can you confirm I can hold off buying this deal until just before the 15th March? I've still got some beans to work my way through until then.

    • No problems at all.

  • Have ordered :0) Look forward to trying your blend James thx for the deal…

    • Thanks for your order. I think you will really enjoy this one.

  • I go through 500 grams every 3 to 4 weeks and buy from a local roaster here in Launceston, Tasmania. It was my understanding that beans should be used within 4 weeks post roast so using 2kg in the same timeframe would be very difficult.

Am I right or wrong about the use by timeframe for beans post roast?

I store beans in a cool, dark, airtight container and grind just enough on demand.

The price for 2kg is very good, I pay $17.50 for 500 grams.

    • Your math is fine - I wouldnt bother changing things. Get a couple of mates together and share the loot.

      • I thought (in addition to the storage detailed above) putting them in the freezer prolonged them even more.

        • Yep, I always freeze my beans, they taste fine for months.

        • I don't think its the freezing thats the problem, its the defrosting. They get wet from condensation and that ruins them.

Its air that is the big killer of fresh beans. I just break the big bean bags down into 200g smaller ziplock bags, and then keep them sealed in a cool dark place. That way I only expose them to air once, until I'm ready to break open another 200g batch.

        • Stumo gets the prize - he is right.
when your coffee comes from the roastery, there is no oxygen inside - its all been pushed out through the oneway valve from the gasses expanding. If you want to freeze it at that point, that should be fine. but dont re-freeze after you open the bag (and let the oxygen in) if your searching for nirvana. the oxygen will condense into moisture and like stumo says, air is the bit that accelerates bean expiry. coffee is best kept out of sunlight, in an airtight container in your pantry (folding the bag down is good for removing excess air). NOTE: you can leave some fresh roasted beans exposed to the air on purpose to accelerate the flavour development for immediate consumption. Its all upto personal preference and experimentation - I have some customers that enjoy their beans 6 or more months after roasting… its all personal preference.

      • Hey stumo that seems to be a great idea! But do you need those one-way valve bags to keep them fresh? (or is that just to showoff aroma?) I have a vacuum sealer! Makes buying 2 kg a lot more plausible for me (lone coffee drinker)

        • The one way valve bags are so the bag doesn't explode from pressure. Fresh roasted coffee emits gasses that swell the bag. The valve lets the gas out while keeping oxygen out. Your idea will work fine.

        • +1

I actually have a bunch of smaller foil bags with ziplocks and the one way valve. I got them (full of beans) from James in an earlier deal. So I just reuse those. Reduce, reuse, recycle, and all that.

James, you could maybe offer to include a few of these empty bags as part of a future deal, for those of us that don't have a vacuum sealer? Or maybe offer to break up the 2kg into 8 250g resealable bags?

    • +1

Leave it in the other thread.

      • Edit: Replied to wrong comment. see below.

    • +1

Explosions_Hurt: I take it thats a RETALIATION NEG you have made, and nothing to do with this deal?
Not cool. You can revoke it if you slipped and hit the wrong button.

      • -3

It's in retaliation for your cronies negging me to oblivion. THAT ain't cool.

        • +3

your cronies negging me to oblivion

sometimes people get negged because they talk drivel…… no cronies needed….

(not saying that this is what happened in this particular case, obviously….)

  • Welcome back James. Too much coffee for me to buy in one go but I will keep my eye on your future deals.

    Cheers.

    • What's a great deal for you? I will try putting something together.

  • -3

thank god his portrait photo isn't the deal image this time.

  • Any alternative payment methods to Paypal available? (Don't wish to deal with them on principle)

Better not find any hairs in the bag^^^^^^

    • paypal, or credit card via paypal (select: I dont have a PayPal account at checkout, or log out of PayPal)

      • From my experience they check if you already have an account with them via the CC number. :/

        • Yes, they do, but you can proceed as a credit card customer at that point still and not logon (or recover the paypal password)

  • Can I get one bag of whole beans and the other bag ground?

    • sure - just send me an email when you order and I will take care of it. 1x Whole Beans, 1x Pre Ground.

      • No worries…done. Thanks for that!

  • Looks good, how is the coffee in terms of taste? (People who have bought this previously)

    • Haven't bought previously but some short reviews are on the site… http://www.baybeans.com.au/reviews.html

    • I'm not an aficionado or anything and my home brewing kit is rather simple (Aero press, thermometer, set of scales and a hario burr grinder), but I would say it's easily better than anything you will buy in the supermarket and better than from places like Toby's Estate (since they aren't always roasted to order).

    • Everyone, without fail, who has a coffee out of my Saeco full auto machine loves this coffee. I've tried the "Forte" and the "Premium Reserve" blends. The Forte is a tad milder, I prefer the Premium reserve myself.

That could be an idea for the next deal James - maybe a 2kg mix and match of your blends in 250/500g resealable bags?

      • I prefer the Premium reserve myself.

You have expensive taste :-) good idea with the mix and match.

  • Do you guys sell green unroasted beans?

    • only roasted beans. what are you roasting with?

  • Reminder: this deal ends midnight Thursday.
