  • Has anyone had a positive experience with purchasing from Myer eBay? Still waiting 2 weeks for an item to be shipped or received. They seem to be getting a lot of negative feedback.

    • +1

Prob because all the stores are closed now due to lockdown and the stores cant pack and send out stock.

    • Damn ordered one yesterday on myer ebay. Trying to get it cancelled now.

  • +1

The picture and specs say 3 heat settings, not 6.

    • content updated, thanks!

  • Looking into electric blankets now. Sunbeam and breville seems to be the biggest known brands selling them. Is one better than another or another brand better? Also are the higher end models with different materials worth it?

    • +2

I got a Breville one recently which has Wifi so I can turn if on from downstairs before I go to bed without having to get off the couch… worth the extra for that model in my opinion. Also means you can hid the giant remotes a bit more if you just use the app.

      • +1

I did see that Breville connect one. I think that's the only one with smart home functions. I'm assuming you can't use a smart plug with it? Also I saw the app store ratings weren't that good. Does the app work ok enough?

        • I think you could use a smart plug if you wanted to, if you trusted it enough. Most remotes either have an on or an off. So you could leave in the on position and turn off with the smart plug. With this one it has on/off/auto, to use the app it needs to be left on auto which means you couldn't use a smart plug, but you could do the same as a normal one and leave it in the on position.

The only bug I see which happens fairly frequently is when you open the app and select a side it does a connection to the remote, sometimes that takes a long time. If it takes more than a few seconds I click the cancel button select the side again and it connects almost instantly. So it doesn't really bother me.

If you don't need the wifi, I would say, the 'quilted' component seems pretty pointless. It's just another bit of material that snaplocks on top of the blanket. Good that you can easily take it off for washing, I guess, but if you were comparing the non connect versions ('antibacterial' vs 'quilted') I'd go the cheaper one and forgo the quilt.

I managed to get the king size for $279.20 from Myer which seemed like pretty good deal compared to the general price/RRP.

    • My only experience with them is the ones we bought years ago, a cheap Kambrook set of 1 queen and 2 x singles, which was about $60 at the time.
3 heat settings, on highest it warms up the bed in less than 10 minutes, too warm to sleep on at that setting. Has extra heating in the foot area.

If you can find the power rating when comparing, might give you an idea on how quickly it will warm up (ours are rated at max 100W, though think when I tested settled around 60W on highest setting).

Some come with better controllers with auto off etc but we just use with a smart plug instead.

You may want to spend a bit more on something that is a bit thicker so you don't feel the heating elements (like you can see in this Kmart one, though guess you could just put an extra blanket over it or something.

    • I'm in the same boat here, not sure what to get. There are so many out there. I think it is important to make sure it has an auto-off function for safety reasons, but yeah what else do we look for when buying one!?

  • Is anyone else's eBay buggy?

    Exclusive Italian Wire Technology

Slow day in the marketing department…

    • +1

      Genuine spaghetti wire then?

      • Lol…must be made in India then, or perhaps by an NBN/telstra network technician.

        • +1

Lol, NBN is more spaghetti+macaroni+straws+hoses+speaker wire+cobwebs+shoelaces+floss

    • if I get a single for a queen bed, I expect drifting

  • Electric blankets should come with a timer to shut off after say an hour or so.
    These do not have timers!
