  • Estimate on GPU Performance equivalent to what as a desktop..? 3060ti?

  • I still prefer Legion 5 Pro with 3070 for that price, you get a much better screen, probably better keyboard too and most importantly, way more community support on the internet, especially on Reddit. Almost everyone on r/gaminglaptops wants or have a L5P and no one wants or have Aorus. Making Aorus a less desired laptop if you have trouble shooting etc.

That Aorus 15G YC with 3080 Max Q is completely pointless, that is the point of having a 3080 and then limit the power???? Might as well get a 3060 or 3070 then.

Thanks but no thanks, I will still wait for the Legion 5 Pro or Legion 7 deal.

Im sure 90% or even more aussie gaming laptop users will be buying this year's legion lineup…. only if Lenovo didnt arbitary marked them up so much compared to other (and especially the Chinese) market. Sure, this year's legion is practically better than 99% of other gaming laptops, they are also more expensive, and really, Im not sure the % markup is worth the increase in performance. It's only when you stack edu. discounts among other thing are they priced competitively.

I was watching the 5 pro w/ 3060 for a while now for my cousin, the cheapest was like what? 2.1k? And he missed that deal. Meanwhile the same 5p goes for 7999 rmb (7499 if you managed to grab one quick) as an introductory price for like a month and can now be bought for 8499 (thats 1.7k aud) with deals on tmall or taobao sellers.

A cheap 6 core (5600h/10500/10750h) 3060 laptop with a ~105w 3060 can be bought for 1.8k without a sale, with a deal some of them gone done to 1.7k or lower which is a better bargain than the 5 pro. The lost of 20% tdp doesnt actually translates to 20% in actual fps and, whilst 6 cores are worse than 8 cores productivity wise, they are just fine for gaming. Not to mention, with the 300-400 bucks you save, one can grab a good gaming monitor (no mux swtich no problem), a mouse and maybe even squeeze out a bit for a keyboard if they cheaps out with the monitor. A complete setup is better than a better laptop, imho.

But yeah, if you need a laptop only and dont want extra space for stuff if one need to travel and move a lot, waiting for a legion deal is still better.

    • I ended up getting the Lenovo sales team down to $2,606 for a Legion 7 with 3070, 16GB RAM, and 2 years warranty. Seemed like a pretty good deal tbh.

      • was this through their online chat as the lowest they did for me was $2880 for same specs

  • The 10% off the 11th gen MSI GP66 laptops seems like a good deal, the 11800h is currently topping 3DMark CPU benchmarks, outperforming the 5900hx.

The auros 15P i had suffered from extremely annoying coil whine. Think a high pitched whistle coming from your laptop even at low fan speed, rather than a subtle whoosh sound. Probably the worst coil whine I've heard in a laptop and was unbearable to be around the thing without some other sound to distract you from it.

To be fair it was a powerful machine, but gigabyte are particularly dodgy and have gone downhill over the years in terms of build quality and customer service (non existant)

I incidentally returned the laptop regardless due to gigabyte not honouring the free monitor promo at the time.

For those willing to run the gauntlet. The 3080 will perform similarly to the 3070 as the 3070 is actually being fed sufficient power to reach its potential.

    Would avoid again :)

    • Agree re customer service the 5 years old Gigabyte I have still is going ok and build quality is really good, good to know they are not as good anymore specially on Aorus as it is one their high end models

    • Wow that bad… I had no issues with Gigabyte but will think twice now. I used them for both mobo and gfx card.
