[PC, Steam] Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Complete Edition $38.11 @ Steam

100

With the announcement of an Australian server, now is a great time to start playing FFXIV. There's a free trial that let's you level up to level 60 if you would like to try it out first.

If you plan on buying the game, and would like some free items/gear to help you start out, feel free to use my recruitment code: EM49YM3V

(For mods, I don't actually receive any credit or money; the referrer and referee just receive some items to help them out!)

$27.90 AUD from GreenManGaming, but direct with Square Enix, not Steam.

    • Thanks for the link (trying to avoid Steam) but it's showing as $31.

      • They seem to be showing different prices depending if you are logged in or not. Try making an account and logging in.

    • oh I didn't even notice this, I shall tell my friends about this. I'd recommend everyone to just disregard the steam version (unless you REALLY want it) and go for this - it's so much easier.

Played copious amounts of this if anyone has questions.

    It definitely gets my recommendation.

Be aware if you buy through Steam, you must buy expansions through Steam and vice-versa.

    • If I buy this, do I have to start paying the monthly fee immediately?

I'm on the free trial right now. I should get to 60 first before buying this right?

      • +2

To get the most value, yes you should play the trial as much as possible first.

Keep in mind that the benefits of paying might make things easier for you, for example access to the market place.

      • Confirming Sam's response, you get 30 days free with the game. You will absolutely not finish everything in 30 days unless you're hardcore, so you may wish to make use of the free trial to begin with, however you could always buy this and not register the key until you're ready.

    • I just tried the /playtime command and the result is 115 days, 14 hours, 13 minutes. I started playing June last year so that's almost a 3rd of my time spending in game…. T.T

To be fair most of it is just afk waiting on PF whilst I do something else.

      • I'm well over 200 days now… It's definitely in "a part of my life" territory now.

      • Wait….if you've only been playing for 1 year and you've played 115 days doesn't that mean you've been playing for 8 hours a day for almost 365 days straight?!

        • Pretty much. For end game raiding sometimes it could take a really long time to form a party, especially during off peak time, and since I've been working from home since the pandemic started I normally just stay logged in throughout the day waiting for a party whilst I do my work and jump in when a party is formed.

@xers: Have you enabled Japanese and other languages in your duty finder?

I was surprised this is not the fault, and since I was on a Japanese player, having only English selected was silly, once I enabled all languages it was quite fast.

@samfisher5986: Yes I'm aware and I have no issues with finding a party using the Duty Finder. I'm talking about end game raiding though (i.e. savage difficulty raids) where people use Party Finder to find parties and in my experience it could take over an hour or 2 to form a party. It has gotten slightly better now since loots restrictions were unlocked though.

  • ETA on Australian server?

    • Around early 2022

  • Note that if you pay for the game like this now you'll likely miss out on the free trial. I played for about an hour a couple of years ago and felt like giving it another go but since I'd previously had game time on my account I wasn't eligible, it's not like WoW where you can play as a trial account when you're not subscribed. I've been waiting two weeks and counting for them to delete my account so I can start over.

    • Just make a new account.

      • That was the first thing I tried but I can't reuse my email address and they don't take salted emails (i.e. [email protected]) so it's either make a new email account for this game or wait for them to delete my existing account.

        • +2

After failing with Gmail, I found out with Hotmail/Microsoft, they let you make new email aliases without making a brand new account.

You can choose between @outlook.com or @outlook.com.au.

I recommend getting a non-steam copy so you’re not locked into steam pricing.
    e.g. latest expansion non-steam price: $52.99
    steam price: $59.99

Although, upside is you can buy discounted steam gift cards to pay for the subscription.

Plus it's just another layer of accounts and ownership. It's good being able to launch the game without steam, especially if you plan to use VPNs or modded launchers.

That said, Steam is totally fine if that suits you better.

In short, free trial equates to base game and first expansion. Pretty good chunk of content right there, might even last you 'til the next time the game is on sale depending on your playstyle.

Addendum on the referral code - even with multiple referrals, it doesn't provide any additional benefit to the OP; only granting them one set of rewards out of it so even more benign than it initially sounds.
