Car with No Number Plates Parked on My Private Parking at Residential Building

I live in residential building with multiple parking spots and each car park assigned to individual units.

Today, coming back from work, I found a car with no number plates parked in my private parking. I have put up a note on the windshield to move the car.

What are my options if the car is not moved by the next day?
UPDATE : I looked up my parking space this morning, and the car has been moved from my parking space. However, they have now moved the car to visitors car park. Imma sit back and relax now.
Thanks for the wonderful suggestions.

    Contact local Council or Strata…

    • +3

Council will do nothing. If strata call the police they will say it has to be abandoned for X time ( I think it's 3 months before they get involved).

  • +5

Contact tow company and have it removed.

    • Any costs involved for me? Since the car has no number plates.

      • +4

        When you call ask.

      • +7

Well, the towie isn't going to do it out of the goodness of his heart.

    • +5

Not if you call a company that scraps cars

  • +5

    Bikies

  • Is the car locked?

    • Yes

      • +20

        Ok.

        Purchase two pairs of these

        Purchase one of these

Carefully use and push the car to wherever you want.

Return items to Supercheap for a store credit.

        • +2

This is the only approach that's going to get you a result quickly.

        • Bit of a hassle, ain't it?

          • +12

@ThePeterGriffin: Do you want your parking space back or not?

          • @ThePeterGriffin: Yes - but worth it to
            a) get your spot back
            b) mess with the entitled person who put it there

        • +4

          Is the car locked?

          Then all you need is;

          One of these
          And
          One of these
          And a quick YouTube tutorial…

          Forget the floor rollers.

@pegaxs: Alternatively you could use a brick to unlock it.

You may still have issues with the steering lock, that’s where the wheel trolleys come in handy.

        • You will have to follow up with reporting the abandoned car to the police, or they may move the car back to your space again.

    List it on Gumtree.

Wait for a Scammer to "buy it" by sending you money
and having someone come and collect it because they are on an Oil Rig.

    Problem solv'd.

Strata can get it towed but it will takes weeks as they have to do notifications etc. Best to notify them asap to start the process.

Strata in Polish means either loss or waste. How ironic.

    • What does kurwa mean?

  • +3

Ring one of those businesses that come around and collect your car for free / nominal amount, for scrap metal.

  • Yours to sell in 28 days

    • How so?

      • +1

        Automotive adverse possession (AAP)

      • You will need a certificate from the Commissioner of Police and a written search result from the Personal Property Securities Register that confirms the vehicle is not stolen. Then its yours to sell.

        • Opps haha, I'm fine with the person moving the car from my parking spot :)

        • That's a cool idea, however you might want to check (at night) that the owner isn't a homeless person sleeping in that car.
I know someone that did that at our office car park even though they knew it was a homeless guy's house, and now is without any shelter.

Get some dollies, move the car into the main entry exit of your complex. Make it strata's problem ;)

I'm a fan of the jacks + wheel dolly method. If you're in a smaller block, you can push it onto the street so the council can then tow it.

If you're in a block of 1000 units with a multistorey car park, you can probably get away with moving it to another part of the car park (not blocking access) and feigning ignorance when someone inevitably asks if you know who moved the car there.

You may be out of luck if the block is covered with CCTV or nosy neighbours though, but I would put it at a 99.99% chance that the car owner would never go to the effort of asking who moved the car.

What kind of car is it? Anything decent?

Also a fan of the dolly and jack method

alternatively make a police report regarding a suspected dumped stolen vehicle.

    • It's a VW Jetta, i guess 2007-12. Yeah, i have put up notice on the wind screen. If not moved by tomorrow morning, i might call the strata and inform the cops regarding the same.

I wonder what is in the boot?
    .

    • +3

….or who is in the boot?

  • +3

Check the vin and see if it’s been stolen

  • +4

    Contact Ozbargain.

  • +3

As others have said, roll it out to where it's someone else's problem. If on common property, something will be done about it, if onto the street, something will be done about it. If it sits in your car park, no one will do anything about it.

Bc of private property, the police can not intervene.

You left the message. Have Corporate Body deal with situation.
Have the vehicle towed away.Better the Corporate Body do this, bc they pay and then seek reimbursement from owner of vehicle.

  • +1

Call the scrap car buyers. They will take it away, and pay you too. But make sure that you lodge a complaint with the strata, police and post a note of your intent on the car itself. Also say in the notice that you will have the car removed at their expenses, and sell it to recover your costs. Hopefully, someone will then do something.

Does your property have security cameras? If so, may be worth getting strata to review video to identify person/s who parked the car just in case it's another resident or someone known to them

  • +3

they have now moved the car to visitors car park

You should still inform building management, visitors space isn’t used for that purpose.
