Hass avocado is suddenly very affordable, any idea the reason? Over harvesting or reduced export?
Avocado Is More Affordable Now
Comments
Already lots! The average Australian consumer now consumes 3.8 kg of avocado a year (3.5 kg per person per year in 2017/18).
It's not enough, we broden more from Chilean
https://www.freshplaza.com/article/9259785/chile-has-already…Avodado good for you eat more! If you don't the farmers are looking to export them, then local prices will go up again.
“We are entering the peak of the Queensland Hass avocado season so there’s an abundance of great quality avos in our stores at great prices,” Mark Watson, Coles’ senior category manager of ripened fruit told news.com.au.
“Currently Hass avocados are just $1 in all Coles supermarkets nationally.”
Woolies is also selling the fruit for the same price across all its stores.
“Thanks to a great growing season, Australian Hass avocados are in abundance and fantastic quality,” Woolworths avocado category manager, Jessica Loader said.
Because of rain, we have a bumper harvest.
Well, we also have mice problems in countryside towns in NSW. so there's always a trade off with rainy seasons.
In season and abundance of stock
Btw did anyone check the price of tomatoes lately…
My local woolies store are selling them at $9/kg…
Is this in Victoria? Could be due to recent severe weather and flooding caused supply issues.

^^ This OP probably shouldn't be buying too many of those.
Avocado toast or house deposit….
Or can negotiate deposit made up of avos. Just like people accepting bitcoin for their houses.
Yes, cheaper than tomatoes at the moment as they are in season.
Because people are buying property. Need to give up the smashed avos.
Vegan protesting obviously caused this to happen.
So the Avocado hype phase probably started some 5 years ago which is when the farmers would have realised there's money to be made.
Naturally Avocado trees take 4-5 years to mature and bear fruit.
Hence now that it's 2021 we've started to get an oversupply/influx of avocados which will continue as more trees come on line. Also the season being now would also make sense.
This is great news then.
I am not so sure about that. Avocado has always been expensive since even like 10 years ago.
Yes they were expensive
But the y gens hadn't picked up on them yet
You can have my share….
Burgen Rye Bread, toasted, butter, vegemite, avocado on top.
Get on it. Breakfast of champions.
Burgen bread is the bees knees.
Expensive but so much better than the alternatives.
Wholemeal and seeds my bread for yonks.
Home baked Lauke Spelt loaf with added wheatgerm, linseed meal, sunflower seeds, pepito and keff, toasted [15 cm thick] with half an Avo, salt, freshly squeezed lime juice…
"toasted 15 cm thick" is also called "baking" I think.
Have you seen the price for berries? $5 for a punnet of Strawberries.
$9 a few weeks ago for 250g
Have you seen the price of cauliflowers lately?
Affordaco
For some reason I am sure not a single cafe will drop the prices of meals involving avo, so it is only a win if you buy them and eat at home.
500,000 trays as good season and no export. Banana prices are gonna increase though.
already been at $4.90 a kg for the last 4 weeks or so!
Husband says might go up to $6!
79c each at the local fruiterer (regional Queensland).
I've started freezing them - apparently they will last up to 6 months frozen. Stockpiling for when they get back to $5.
It's time to eat more of it :)
